The hotel was an excellent base for activities, with several different lounge and outdoor seating areas to spend time, so we never felt that the hotel was overcrowded, even in peak season. The small outdoor pool was perfect to cool down after a hot walk, but for swimmers wanting to do some lengths, the public pool 2 minutes walk away is the best (and cheap) option. There was plenty of food at the buffet breakfast, with enough variety for our family, and the small bar had a good selection of cold drinks to go alongside their cocktail selection. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful, and our neighbouring rooms were clean, spacious (especially for France) and comfortable. Our rooms were not air-conditioned, but judicicious use of the shutters during the day kept the rooms cool enough. We booked canyoning and rafting activites whilst we were in Castellane, both of which we really enjoyed. Note that rafting days are limited to 2 days per week (when EDF opens the dam), so book early or in advance. In short, we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. "

The setting of the hotel must have originally been perfect on the edge of the village and overlooking a beautiful lake but more recent development has infilled part of the outlook with a football pitch, emergency services buildings and a supermarket. Opposite the front of the hotel is the landing field for the paragliding school so this adds a very entertaining novelty to the hotel. The hotel restaurant closed two years ago and the only food served now is breakfast. The breakfast was good on our first day but the quantities reduced each day. On the second day I had to ask for the fruit salad bowl to be replenished but on the third day I was told very briskly that there "was no more" and the choice of bread was just a French stick. This put a dampener on our stay especially as there was a supermarket two minutes away selling fabulous fresh fruit - there really was no excuse to run out of such a basic and cheap commodity. The owner of the hotel speaks good English and was very helpful but we felt that he was no longer really interested in the hotel however the rooms were great, clean and comfortable which is probably the most important thing and we would be happy to return one day."

The house of Chateau Ricard was the chatelain's farm of La Palud sur Verdon. At 500 meters from the heart of the village, the house, surrounded by fields, remains in its environment and on its rustic side the witness of its peasant vocation.

The rental, semi-detached, occupies half of the building with a clear southern exposure to the mountains overlooking the Gorges. Calm and tranquility are assured. The period walls, thick, ensure the freshness of the house during the summer.

With nearly 100 square meters, the house offers:
- a large bright kitchen recently redone and fully equipped
- a living room
- an adult room
- an adult room passing to access the other rooms
- a room with a child bed in 90 and a bed in 120
- a bathroom WC (which justifies limiting the number of occupants to 5/6)

Minimal TV screen and no wifi connection: the holiday priorities of our guests are not in the screens but in a green tourism fueled by the contemplation of the landscapes of the Verdon and the tranquility of life paluarde. Also, many books are available to tenants for moments of rest at home. Wifi will be found in the village in bars and at the tourist office.

In southern exposure, on the side of the house, the garden offers a terrace equipped with sun loungers, table, garden chairs and barbecue. An old lime tree plays the role of parasol. The garden is extended by the fields open to tenants when the hay is cut.

The house could do with a good clean and upgrade of the towels and bedlinen and putting some of the clothes etc in a locked cupboard to reduce the feel that you are staying in somebody else's house.
