- "Nice" - "Very nice and clean room for a small business inn. The surrounding area has nothing open past 8 or 9pm usually but each room in the inn is stock with self-check out food and drinks. Would stay again! " - "We loved everything about the alander from the ease of communication to the design of the property & our room. We came to ski and will definitely return for a summer visit too!" - "At first glance, it appears to be just another old school, roadside motel. But how pleasantly surprised we were when we actually pulled in. The outside spaces were clean, updated and inviting and left us disappointed that it was too cold to take advantage of the firepit/seating areas. The rooms were equally well updated inside. Everything was clean and comfortable with a vibe that punched well above its price point. Check in and registration were all done electronically and was easy to do, although it was a bit disconcerting that there is no definite check OUT process. All in all, I could not recommend staying here highly enough."

Enjoy the amazing views of the Berkshire/Taconic hills, farms and valleys from our 3 story country home with floor-to-ceiling windows, pool, 4 BRs, and more. Set on 5 acres, we are 15 min from Great Barrington, MA, and 25 min from Hudson, NY, with great access to all the great Berkshire/Columbia County cultural attractions and outdoor activities for all seasons (skiing at Catamount is only 2 miles away). And all this just 2 1/4 hours from NYC and 2 1/2 from Boston.
While the majestic view will capture your heart, the house provides great space to enjoy family and friends, including a wrap-around outdoor deck (with dining table for 12), two-story living room with beautiful stone fireplace, screened-in porch, gorgeously designed pool, as well as exercise room with Peloton and weights, ping-pong-table, reliable wi-fi and much more. And with two primary (en suite) bedrooms as well as two other bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, a loft, a massive and wonderfully carpeted family room on the lower level, and outdoor coffee nook, it has space suited for everyone.
Of course the views from all parts of the house command attention, but the lay out of the house makes the experience particularly wonderful. You enter the house through a wonderful wooden, covered entryway with stained glass on either side and realizes (after experiencing the living room view) that this main floor has a residential wing to one side (3 bedrooms and two full baths) and the large dining room and kitchen on the other. With a separate primary bedroom and loft upstairs (including a spa tub), and the full family room (with floor-to-ceiling windows)/exercise area/laundry facilities downstairs, there is ample room to be together as a family or group or find one's own niche.
Beyond the bucolic setting of the house (which now includes both new and mature apple, pear and cherry trees), a remarkable range of places and activities beckon for each and every season:
- For outdoor enthusiasts, Catamount ski area and Taconic State Park (including Bash-Bish Falls-- Massachusetts' largest) are within 5 min, and the Appalachian trail, Copake Lake, quality golf courses (such as Copake Country Club) and hiking trails of all kinds are within a half hour, including the gorgeous alpine Guilder Pond;
- Cultural attractions within a half hour include Tanglewood, the Norman Rockwell museum, Jacob's Pillow the Art Omi outdoor sculpture garden, the W.E.B. Dubois birthplace and much more,
- Great restaurants, art galleries and small town dynamism in the heart of the Berkshires represented by Great Barrington and the Hudson Valley as felt in Hudson, NY, and other small communities.
And part of what makes it so special is that each season is distinct and worth savoring: internationally renowned summer cultural attractions, inspiring fall foliage, winter skiing (or curling up in front of fire), and spring's bucolic greenery.
In case it's not abundantly clear, we love the home and the area and know you will too. Go ahead and book now to enjoy all that both have to offer.
- "Everything about the home and hosts were beyond perfect. The kitchen is very well equipped. The views are spectacular . In short, it was amazing. Absolutely nothing could’ve been improved. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing home with us." - "Jackie is a great host, super clear and communicative and easy to get in contact with if there are any questions. Overall a great stay, amazing for groups - house had enough space for all of us, very well organized and well stocked in the kitchen and very clean."

It was incredible to walk through the door and immediately spot the gorgeous lake view. The kids couldn't wait to explore the house and choose their rooms. It felt like we kept uncovering unique surprises around every corner. Our hosts thought of everything and supplied so many thoughtful touches, from an inviting welcome basket to travel size toiletries in the bathroom cabinets. They were so responsive to any questions or requests and seemed to genuinely care about us enjoying our stay. We all truly loved the house, the lake, and exploring the town. " - "I can't speak to the other seasons, but autumn is the perfect time to stay at this property. It is secluded and surrounded by trees whose leaves seemed to change every minute. There is plenty of space, so whether you are two people or six people, you are not on top of each other. The furnishings are simple and tasteful, the kitchen is equipped with everything you need, and there are three bathrooms. Javier and Julia were attentive via VRBO message to make sure we had what we needed. We stayed here because our best friends live less than a quarter-mile away; it was perfect for our needs. - "We wanted to get away together and enjoy some peace and quiet and do a little cooking. The kitchen was well stocked! The pond was being dredged while we were there so not 100% the quiet we were looking for. The owners we great to work with, there was a problem in the house and if we didn’t bring it to their attention it probably would have resulted in a larger issue for them, They were appreciative of our attention. The house is very comfortable and anyone who chooses to stay would enjoy!"

Lauren's house is very charming, but the property where it sits with the stream in the back is just lush. Both kids and adults loved our week there." - "We greatly enjoyed Lauren’s Copake Falls house this July. Everything she says about it in the ad is true! It would be particularly comfortable for families with teens and tweens, but it was just fine for us grandparents as well. Not surprisingly, our July weather was hot and muggy at times, but the 5 window air conditioners cooled the place handily. The beds were comfortable, and the bedding was attractive. As with any place in the country, there were critters about – raccoons, mice, bees, and hornets; so we were vigilant. At one point we lost hot water, but Adam, Lauren’s husband, and our contact, was on it instantly. We highly recommend Lauren’s place. Thanks Lauren and Adam; we hope to return next year!!!"

Swimming pool is 20 yards long, ideal for laps and for children; it can be heated, if needed, making it delightful starting in June and continuing past Labor Day (depending on weather). Sliding glass doors on upper and lower levels. Tennis/pickleball court and large lawn area available for outdoor activities. Indoor/outdoor ping-pong table. The house is surrounded by woods, and you will discover a multitude of walking and hiking opportunities in the area, with the Taconic State Park and Catamount Ski (winter) / Catamount Aerial Adventure Park (summer) 5 minutes away.
Dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, A/C throughout, ceiling fans, TV/DVD, stereo, WiFi and broadband.
Adjacent to Taconic State Park, so very much "in the woods"! Winter is beautiful, too -- Catamount Ski Area is 15 minutes away, and Butternut is close, too.
- "I really love this house. Clean, well-maintained, the kitchen's stocked with all the cookware and utensils that myself and my guests could want. The property is secluded and peaceful, the views are absolutely gorgeous, but at the same time it doesn't really feel like it's "in the middle of nowhere." Great Barrington nearby has plenty of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, and we checked out a few hiking trails nearby as well. Alan's a great host, friendly and communicative, and his welcome booklet and notes left around the house answered most of my questions before they even came up. My second stay won't be my last!"

Kitchen could've used a baking sheet and some olive oil, but other than had everything we needed!" - "Place was better than described. Exceeded expectations. Welcome to Maison Berkshires, a nature immersion! This beautiful historic house and red barn are nestled on 7 wooded acres, and surrounded by hundreds more, with no neighbor in sight. A place where everything is made to relax and disconnect: from the serene sounds of the streams running on the property, to the beautifully appointed house. Minutes from stunning hikes like Bash Bish Falls or the Appalachian Trail. 15 mins to Great Barrington and Catamount, 30 mins to Stockbridge, 35 mins to Lenox.
A PLACE TO GATHER
Maison Berkshires has everything you need to create amazing memories with your friends and family. We come here to relax and recharge with our loved ones, and designed everything in the house with that in mind.
This colonial house was built as a summer escape for a Manhattan banker and has an illustrious and quirky history. Babe Ruth used to stay here on his vacation where he hunted and drank a little too much, according to the locals. In the early 20th century, the owner published the town newspaper "Ye Occasional Idler" from a printing press in the attic.
The ground floor includes a large living room with triple exposure windows, a mix of antique and contemporary furniture, and warm blankets to cozy up for those long evening chats. You'll also find a table where we enjoy playing board games, doing puzzles, or having an occasional glass of Berkshire Mountain Distillers Bourbon after dinner. Two doll houses and a "book nook" with a vintage rocking chair complete the space.
The dining room is one of the beating hearts of the house and its antique table sits eight people. We designed it to be warm and inviting and hope you'll spend long evenings here, laughing and enjoying those moments as we do. We usually have a few candles out on the table to create a beautiful setting.
The kitchen is adjacent to the dining room. We cook a lot when in the house so it should have everything you need to prepare delicious meals. If you want to check-in with us first about something you may need, feel free to do so! Equipment includes a 6 burner Wolf stove and many small appliances like a Nespresso coffee machine, rice maker, raclette machine, waffle maker and more... You'll also find a pantry by the kitchen where we keep more cooking stuff.
A sitting room completes the ground floor. Located to your left when you first enter the house, it is meant to be a larger foyer where you can comfortably remove your shoes and coats as you're settling in. You'll find a built-in bookshelf with a collection of books and objects, inspired by the Berkshires and by the history of the house.
The bedrooms are all upstairs and include roller shades on all windows. The Primary bedroom has a beautiful antique queen bed, a desk with printer/scanner, large closet and its own bathroom with a large walk-in shower. The primary bathroom has one of the best views from the house! Another bathroom on that floor is shared by the three other bedrooms. The Blue Room is another large bedroom which features a king bed, a desk, dresser and a half bath with a walk-in closet. There are two more bedrooms on that floor, one with a queen bed, dresser and desk, the other one has a trundle bed, closets and antique chair.
A play room completes the upstairs. It has a tepee, toy kitchen, lots of kids books and many toys! There is also a small couch and a TV in that area. We don't have cable but the smart TV offers apps like Netflix, Amazon Video, and more. The playroom is open to the hallway that leads to the different bedrooms - it isn't a closed off room.
The deck can be accessed from the kitchen and this is where you'll find our Weber grill and an outdoor dining table which seats eight. From the deck you'll take in a stunning view of the surrounding trees while enjoying the shade they provide. You will hear and see our brook on the western side of the house which feeds directly into Bash Bish Falls, the highest waterfall in Massachusetts. It is also a great place to observe the wildlife, like white-tailed deers, wild turkeys, all while listening to the sounds of woodpeckers and other birds.
The barn is where we keep all the fun stuff! It is a gorgeous post and beam barn built by a local master builder with concrete floors and electricity. There you will find everything to entertain, including: a ping pong table, corn hole set, croquet set, balls, badminton net and rackets... and even a treadmill!
The fire pit area with its Adirondack chairs is located next to the barn. We love making s'mores there with the kids and enjoy conversations while staring at the fire.
A hammock is hung in between two large pine trees and is our favorite spot to read books and nap. Next to it is the kid's swing which can either be set as a "big kid" swing or a "small kid" swing. Both swings are kept in the barn when not in use.
A PLACE TO SKI
The house is conveniently located near the two best ski resorts in Southern Berkshires: Catamount Mountain Resort, and Ski Butternut.
Catamount Mountain Resort is 13 minutes away and features 44 ski trails, 39 with snowmaking, and 8 lifts. It offers some of the most varied terrain in Southern New England, and is suited for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
Ski Butternut offers 22 ski trails, all covered with snowmaking, and 11 lanes for tubing! It is a great and affordable family ski resort.
A PLACE TO HIKE
The property is located in the town of Mount Washington, 80% of which is a nature preserve. Some of the best hikes in the Berkshires are within minutes, including the Appalachian Trail which is 3 miles away. Other notable hikes in the area include:
- Bash Bish Falls, 1.6 miles away
- Mount Everett, 2.2 miles away
- Guilder Pond Hiking Trail, 3 miles away
- Jug end State Reservation, 5 miles away
- and so many more!
A PLACE TO WORK
Sometimes we need to get away from it all to focus and get work done. This house is a great one to do so with:
- Fast Fiber optic internet at 330 mbps
- Dedicated 5G Wifi Network
- Printer with flatbed scanner
- Desks in three bedrooms
- Plugs everywhere
DISCLAIMERS / HOUSE TRUTHS
This is an old house so it needs frequent care and upkeep! We fell in love with it and are dedicated to it, but also know that an old house may not be for everyone.
While it is perfectly sound structurally, you will quickly notice that most of the floors are uneven, and that one of the two stairs in the house was built with steeper and shorter steps than what we would build today.
Some of the beautiful windows are original, like many other parts of the house, and have been lovingly restored throughout the years. They are protected on the outside by storm windows which makes for a good insulation, but it also means you need to open two windows if you want to let the fresh air in. No big deal but we want you to be aware of that!
The central forced air heating works very well, and can be controlled from a Nest thermostat in the Sitting Room. The house is located on a small mountain at a 1,500 ft elevation and is surrounded by trees which means the summers here are cooler and no AC was ever needed in the house. It was also built with great cross-ventilation and we have fans throughout the house if need be.
Everything!
Unless there is a lock on the door... Three doors are locked in the house: one is a supply closet in the pantry, one leads to the cellar and the other to the attic. In the barn, we ask that you stay on the ground floor, as we use the mezzanine level as a storage space. Thank you!

- "We had a wonderful time at Augustin’s property. The house is definitely old but meticulously maintained and updated with an amazing kitchen (and everything you might need) and very comfortable beds. The game room barn was a fun escape for the kids (and us) while not having to leave the property. Augustin left us with plenty of firewood and fire starters to make a bon fire (and s’mores, which the kids loved). There was also a swing my 2 year old was obsessed with and toys both upstairs and down. You may want to note there is only a small TV in the kids playroom upstairs, so no movie nights for the adults - but that was fine as we ended up playing games and talking more than we do at home! We went skiing at catamount (15 mins) and hiking at Bish Bash falls (5mins). Augustin was easy to communicate with and even gave us early check in and late check out. 5 stars!"

- "House is ideal for families. Very conveniently located for Catamount ski resort. " - "Our stay was perfect! Plenty of room - close to Great Barrington, Lennox, Bish Bash Falls - -loved the screened in porch - the property was beautiful with lots of different paths to find.Clean and easy." - "Great house - great location - very clean and beautiful property! Would definitely stay here again." - "Pro: Lovely farm house and piece of property. Quiet and private. The owner is very responsive and made an accomodation for my arrival a day early. He also sorted some issues I had upon arrival. Beds are comfortable. Bathrooms are nicely finished and furnished Cons: As explained to me by the owner, they just had a long term tenant move out. Would be great if the owners made a trip to the house. A full kitchen inventory is in order. Making even a simple spaghetti dinner not really feasible in what is a large kitchen with high end appliances. No sheet pan, no pot large enough to boil water in for pasta, 3 terrible old knives. No knife block or steak knives. Drawers full of unorganized and badly tarnished silverware: not in a shabby chic way. ALL of the dishes, pots and pans need to be taken out of cupboards and cleaned. This will sound petty but a 10 digit door code is never going to be something anyone can remember. Will require keeping your phone with you every time you leave the property. We found the NEST thermostats difficult to program, no instructions on site. Broken dining chair. Limited TV seating for a house that sleeps 8. We were only 4, but 3 of them tall guys... I had several text threads with Vacasa, I have rented through their management before and in both instances communication is bad. Useless actually. This house is so close to being an awesome rental..."

A 5 min walk to Taconic State park, our home is set on a tree lined acre in Copake Falls NY. Taconic is home to a swimming hole & children’s pool, Bash bish waterfalls & countless hikes. There is also a stunning stunning bike trail that will take you through forests, farm fields and nearby towns. All this is within walking distance of us. Surrounded by rolling hills & towns such as Hillsdale, Hudson and Millerton, we love our home and its location in equal parts.
The space
- Having lived in NY, we understand that space and room to breath within a home can be a luxury. We have furnished our 1865 home so that it’s uncluttered and clean with a mix of MCM/ contemporary & vintage furnishings.
- The primary living space has a natural flow between the living and dining room as well as the kitchen.
- There are two additional sitting rooms upstairs where one can steal away to watch a movie, or read a book while the rest of your party hangs out in the main space.
- We renovated our kitchen in 2021, complete with a beautiful new stove and hand painted wood floor. It's so pretty and fully stocked with all you need to cook.
- And if you prefer to eat out, there are delicious restaurants and wonderful specialty grocers that make prepared foods nearby.
- Though both kitchen & bathrooms have been renovated, we have managed to maintain the original farmhouse feel though old plank hardwood floors, and original windows.
Guest access
You have the whole house and one acre front and backyards are yours.
Other things to note
- We have a nest just to the right of the dining room in the hallway. Feel free to adjust to a temperature that feels comfortable to you. If you are going out for a long stretch we'd appreciate it if you could turn the heat down to 60 as it doesn't take very long to heat back up once you get home.
- You can also connect to our stereo system through bluetooth
- Feel free to play our collection of vintage records on our record player.
- It maybe tempting but do not move our furniture around. We have a lot of fine pieces and several have been damaged by guests doing photo shoots etc. - Our home is a location for your gathering, NOT commercial or social media shoots. Don't stand on dining room or living room chairs as several have been broken. We appreciate you caring for our place as if it were your own.
