THE HOUSE
Private driveway wends through 1/3 mile of woods before opening to the large secluded meadow that fronts the house. Entrance hallway leads to the modern kitchen and a great room with cathedral ceilings and stone fireplace. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide expansive views of nature and flood the home with natural light. Kitchen is well appointed with stainless steel appliances, gas stove and peninsula seating area. Cozy den with sleeper sofa and television opens off the kitchen and entrance hall. Across the hall is a half bath with front-loading washer and dryer. Sonos sound system fills the entire main living area with music.

Luxurious first floor master bedroom features king size bed, beautiful stone fireplace and spa-like white marble en suite bathroom complete with oversized tub, separate shower and double sinks.

Huge deck extends across the front of the house, from great room to master bedroom, with sliding door access from both, offering elevated views of the meadow and surrounding woods. The ridge line of East Mountain State Forest is visible through the trees to the West.

Known locally as the Turning Point Inn, the main part of the house was built in 1850 and has a long history as a stage coach inn, local tavern and more recently a bed and breakfast. The layout is perfect for family gatherings when you want to be able to stay together but have your own private rooms to retreat to at night. It is conveniently located near many hiking trails (notably the Appalachian trail crosses nearby), waterfalls, swimming holes, parks, music festivals in the summer, and of course Butternut Ski resort just down the main road. This beautiful historic house features 7 fully furnished bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, 3 of which are ensuite. Each bedroom has it's own separate key and locking doors for added privacy. The main common spaces are spacious yet cozy, each possessing it's own unique charm. There is a family room with a wood burning stove and television with Chromcast and DVD player with a wide selection of DVDs. The sitting room has a working fireplace and maintains much of it's original character and decoration. The dinning room is cozy yet can comfortably accommodate 15 people with plenty of space to spare. As a former Bed and Breakfast the house is equipped with a commercial kitchen that includes a Viking stove and oven, coffee maker, toaster, water heater, microwave, dishwasher, large restaurant grade sink and professional cookware. We stock all the plates, bowls, cups and flatware you will need to entertain large groups. There is also a laundry room with a full size washer dryer.

During the summer months the main floor remains cool during the day with the stone and wood floors tempered by the cool evenings and mountain breezes. In the winter you can use the wood burning stove in the family room and the gas stove in the dining room. The fireplace in the sitting room is unfortunately under maintenance and not available for use at this time. The bedrooms on the second floor have their own air conditioners and individual smart heating controls to accommodate everyone's temperature preference. The house itself is nestled on 1 wooded acre with a large lawn. There is an outdoor picnic table where you can enjoy a glass of wine in the evening or your morning coffee.

Please note that this is an old house built in the early 19th century. Things are worn and there are many imperfections. If you are looking for a brand new renovated experience, this may not be the house for you, but if you are looking for a clean large space with plenty of private bedrooms and bathrooms suitable for a large group of people and having a fun time then this is the place for you.

The Red House is part of our 4 acre family compound on Lake Buel. Our family has owned this property since 1935. Generations of children have had their whole life defined by our Summers at the lake. This house is one of four on the property. The other three are occupied by the extended family members.

You are right on the lake, beautiful screened in porch, one floor, no stairs in or out. Parking is on the same level as the house. You will spend much of your time lounging around or enjoying your meals on the 30' long screened-in porch that runs the width of the house. Plenty of comfortable seating on the porch and a dining table that seats 8. Bring your own boat and tie it up your private dock. When not enjoying the screened porch, the Great Room will be the activity center of the house. It starts with the Fireplace area and our friend 'the moose'. The great room sliding glass doors open to the screened in porch to bring the summer breezes into the house. Use the two ceiling fans or the room air conditioner to make it comfortable on the warm summer days.

- "We had a wonderful time during our stay. It was relaxing, yet there was plenty to do indoors & out. We played ping pong & darts, exercised on the stationary bicycle, enjoyed ourselves in the pool & hot tub & played tetherball. There was also a swing set for youngsters & a hammock. Grocery stores were 20 minutes away. The only downside was when we had guests & they needed to use the restroom in the middle of the night. They had to use the bathroom that was off of the master bedroom or go downstairs to the 1st floor where there was a full bathroom. We managed, though. Cell phone reception was inconsistent. All in all, we would wholeheartedly recommend staying there. Deidre & John are lovely people who bent over backwards for us."
