- "Great quiet retreat." - "This is a great place for two adults and maybe two small children. Comfortable screened in porch with seating for 4 and a large outdoor porch with two large tables (with umbrellas) and seating for 6 at each table. Secluded area with a few near by public beach areas on a clean lake." - "My family (husband, 8 yo son, and I) stayed here for a week and it was lovely. House is near the end of the road so it was quiet with little traffic (other than lots of motor boats over the holiday weekend). Lots to do in the area (hiking, beaches, canoeing, arcades). Closed in porch opens to living room and that was great! Deck was also nice to relax on. Be aware that you will be at least 20-30 minutes from most restaurants and grocery stores."

Relax in this freshly remodeled cape-style 4 season cottage facing Shellcamp Lake in New Hampshire's Lakes Region. Enjoy coffee - or adult beverages - on one of two furnished decks, with family and friends while you take in all that lake living has to offer.
Make Waters Edge your home away from home, whether you are looking for a few days, a week...or longer....of tubing, swimming or dangling your feet in the water from your private dock (boats are welcome; we are quite close to the lake's public boat launch) and sitting area complete with Adirondack chairs and a stone fire pit - or perhaps you want to enjoy the Lakes Region's offerings with easy access to New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Lake Winnipesaukee, winter skiing at Gunstock Mountain or ice skating at Laconia's ice rink...there is truly something for everyone.
The Shellcamp community is a peaceful and friendly one - with a lake that welcomes boating, skiing, fishing and enjoyment across each of the 4 seasons, with easy access to NH's snowmobile trails. The 4th of July fireworks are not to be missed, fall foliage with apple picking and an afternoon at the local winery make for a perfect day; skiing at Gunstock or other area mountains, ice fishing on Shellcamp or snowmobiling will make the outdoor winter enthusiast smile.
The home:
>1700 square feet of living space, across 3 floors with 3 bedrooms (plus a flex space that can be a 4th bedroom or an extra family room), 3 full baths, 2 family rooms and a fully outfitted kitchen. You will find oak flooring on the ground and 1st levels, with carpeting on the top floor.
The 2 bedrooms on the top floor are en suite, with full bathrooms and sizeable walk-in closets. Imagine waking up in the king bedroom to views of the lake - the home is one where you can 'exhale' and rejuvenate fully.
However, if you are like us, and want to stay in touch with our teams at work, the space is amenable to working remotely (the desk in the king bedroom and/or the tables on either of the decks offer great space).
The first-floor bedroom is located across from a full bathroom, at the back of the home looking out onto the lawn - which is the perfect place for volleyball, croquet or corn hole - and has a stone sitting area with seating and another fire pit.
The main deck on the front of the home spans the width of the home and overlooks the lake. A table, multiple seating options, rugs (in the warmer months) and a gas grill expand your living and dining options.
A few specifics you might be interested in:

- there is sufficient parking for 4-6 vehicles provided that the maximum occupancy of the home is not exceeded; there is space to park trailers (for snowmobiles or boats) either adjacent to the house or on our waterfront lot adjacent to the home
- We feel that the location of the home is perfect! You will find yourself ~20 minutes to Gunstock Mountain and Lake Winnipesaukee, only 5 miles to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, ~5 minutes to apple picking or the Gilmanton Winery, and only ~15 minutes to shopping in Tilton at The Tanger Outlets! We are ~20 minutes from Concord and 45 minutes from the Manchester airport.
- The Waters Edge property is quite unique in that the lot is split into 2 parcels.
-- The parcel that contains the home in on the corner of Penobscott Path and Lakeshore Drive (the front of the home and the front door are on Lakeshore Drive facing the water).
-- The 2nd parcel is ~100 steps diagonally across the road (marked by 2 signs 'Waters Edge'); this portion of the property has direct and private water access with ~150 ft of water frontage, a dock, space for toys, lounging and relaxing by the stone fire pit and Adirondack chairs.
-- You might find this arrangement beneficial, as it further ensures the safety of our small guests by slowing their path to the water.

Shellcamp Lake/Pond, New Hampshire
Shellcamp Lake is located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire in the town of Gilmanton. The town was named after the Gilman family who inhabited the area in the early 18th century. It still remains a quaint and quiet town for those who seek a bit of peace and tranquility away from home.
Shellcamp Lake sits in Belknap County and is just south of two of the largest lakes in New Hampshire: Lake Winnipesaukee and Lake Winnisquam. A dam was built in 1931 on Academy Brook to create Shellcamp Pond which is controlled by New Hampshire Water Division. Shellcamp is perfect for all types of vacationers with fun-filled activities and peaceful nights.
With 145 acres of blue water, Shellcamp Pond can accommodate all types of watercrafts. There is a public boat launch on the northeastern shore for boating, kayaking, canoeing, and sailing. Take your kayak on an adventure to one of the rivers flowing in or out of the lake. Huckins Brook flows into Shellcamp Pond, and Academy Brook is the lake’s outlet. The lake has a mean depth of 7 feet and a maximum depth of 15 feet. Anglers will reel in an assortment of fish such as largemouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, sunfish, brown bullhead, panfish, and lake trout. Spend a long summer day fishing by boat or on shore, and when the heat is too much, take a dive in the lake’s blue waters.
Shellcamp is in close proximity to many forests and parks. Meadow Pond State Forest and Betty Smithers Town Forest are north of Shellcamp Lake; Ella Stroud Memorial Forest and Shaker State Forest are located south of the lake. Many of the forests in the area offer groomed trails for hiking and biking. If you’re interested in a more leisurely day, pack a picnic and take in the extraordinary views of nature and wildlife. Portions of the shoreline on Shellcamp Pond are undeveloped and of great value to wildlife, water quality, and scenic beauty.
Shellcamp Pond and the surrounding area offer an abundance of year-round fun. Take a day to golf on courses with rolling hills and exceptional greens interwoven with sand bunkers and water hazards. If golfing is not your sport, head into town and spend the day shopping, wine tasting, and dining. Rest assured there is plenty to do at Shellcamp Pond.
- "This great property was updated, clean and as advertised. The owners paid attention to the details in this house, making our stay very enjoyable and relaxing." - "This beaugiful home on the lake has been lovingly rennovated. It was perfect for our family's needs, with adequate sleeping space as well as outdoor entertaining space to grill and roast s'mores. The walk to the beach was manageable, even with young kids. The beach was a bit smaller than we anticiapted, but only a few families shared the beach (even on the most beautiful week of the summer!), so it wasn't an issue. Everyone in the community was friendly, and the owners were highly responsive. It was a great experience!"

- "The home is well maintained and completely private while being 20-30 minutes from many major attractions. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and the house was immaculate. I didn't see the cameras disclosed on the listing, I understand owners needing to keep an eye on their property but a camera pointed at the hot tub for a couples getaway feels intrusive especially without disclosure. I still give it 5 stars as this was the only negative."

- "Great house nice and clean and quiet for the six days." - "Our stay was absolutely incredible! The space was clean, organized and beautifully maintained. The owners were the most welcoming and responsive hosts I’ve ever experienced. This home exceeded our expectations and we hope to be able to visit again in the future. I highly, highly recommend this space!" - "Beautiful home that was impeccably clean and nicely decorated while still feeling cozy and like we were allowed to “live” in it. Hosts made us feel welcome with a little gift which was much appreciated. Pretty much everything we could need was thought of and available. View was beautiful, great to wake up and drink our coffee while listening to the loons. So quiet which we loved. Would definitely stay again!"

Absolutely charming, adorable and immaculate are just a few terms to describe this totally renovated top to bottom bungalow on peaceful Shellcamp Lake. Compact, yet complete with all you need for a comfortable stay.
The kitchen and living/dining areas are open concept with access to the quaint screened porch and large deck. There are two cozy bedrooms. One with a queen bed and one with a double bed. A light and bright brand spanking new bathroom complete the interior of this cutie. There is also a queen size sleeper sofa in the living area.
And did I mention that everything in this house is new? Furniture, appliances, windows, floors, everything! If all this isn't enough, the rental includes access to 2 single kayaks, a canoe, dock for a small boat, easy entry into the water, firepits, screened building, picnic tables, a wooden swing and shared association beach a few steps away. Simply amazing!

- "The hot tub was lovely on chilly mornings or evenings. Great fishing, wood supply for campfires, and toys to use at your leisure. It was a perfect property for our needs. The bedrooms are small and could use new mattresses." - "The location is outstanding, beautiful spot overlooking scenic Shellcamp Lake. We were a family of three; two adults and one child. We enjoyed use of the kayaks/canoes, spotted loons and egrets, swam at the beach, watched gorgeous sunsets, and made several campfires. The house has wonderful outdoor spaces to enjoy the lake—we grilled several nights eating at the adjacent table and teleworked most days from the porch overlooking the lake. The house itself is modern, clean, and well appointed with plenty of kitchen utensils, games, and a small television. Everything worked wonderfully; no maintenance hiccups. The house itself is very small, which was fine for two adults with a smaller child. I note only that the shower is so tiny it may be difficult for very large guests to use and the second bedroom fits only the bed without anymore floorspace. Neither was an issue for our family. This is all typical of the NH Lake District in our view, and the owners made excellent use of the available space. Hosts were welcoming and easy to communicate with. We would love to return to Shellcamp!"

- "Was able to go up to the area for a 3 day weekend, and this place was directly in the middle of all the areas I wanted to visit with my family. A short trip to Alton Bay or Laconia, and then all around the lake. Cottage was quiet, comfortable and clean. I was able to talk to someone very quickly when I wasn't sure how to use the keypad (it didn't light when I pushed the button and wasn't lighting up on first touch on the pad). Neighbors were pleasant and helpful. Really enjoyed the overall experience."

- "We had a wonderful stay at Varney Hill Farm. The Loft apartment had everything we needed for our long-weekend stay visiting the Lakes Region. The apartment was clean and well kept. It was a nice balance of rustic, cozy charm for an 1800s farmhouse with the right touch of modern amenities. We got to explore the property a little bit, getting to see the horses, cows, and pigs. Even explored some of the trails, which the farm is adjacent to town and state conservation land. Hosts Patti and Matt are great people and easy to reach in case of anything. Our dog ended up taking a tumble down the steps leading up to the loft and Patti was right there offering anything she could, even finding material to act as a temporary gate which was much appreciated. Pup's okay btw, just a swollen lip and a bruised ego. She thoroughly enjoyed her farm visit, too. Will definitely look to stay here the next time we're up in the area."

- "This place was very peaceful, house was very nice, updated and allowed space. Would definately stay again" - "Perfect for four dudes looking for a place to crash that is reasonably close to the track. Great stay. Good fun." - "The property worked for my purpose, it was not overly clean ( even though they charged me for cleaning, if this is what they paid they did not get their monies worth). Also I ended up paying which I felt was exceptionally high for one night near a lake off season, I felt this was way overpriced. They touted snacks available, but some of these were open and half eaten. Overall it felt like the owners just moved out for a night."

Similarity in nature. Kinship. Affinity.”
The space
At 560 SQFT this Tiny Cabin is best suited for 1 -3 guests or 4 if two are comfortable sharing a FULL-size bed and the group is accustom to sharing a tiny space. Minimalistic packing is encouraged as storage is at a minimum with no closets or bureaus, but hooks and luggage racks are provided (self-serve laundry available across the street in stable's tack room). What it lacks in space it makes up for in charm and appointments.
The open kitchen is equipped with spacious soapstone countertop, under counter dual mini refrigerators (no freezer), 2-burner range, convection microwave & large sink. Stocked for attractive cooking with beautiful Spatterware enameled crockery, cast iron pans as well as Vietri tableware-for-four and the convenience of a Keurig (or french press if you're feeling fancy). The lounge area is watched over by “Sneaky Bob” perched over the Jotul wood stove and features a pub table-for-two repurposed from old wagon wheels, cozy Adirondack loveseat and accent chair, whimsical lighting fixtures and fanciful hand carvings. The Cabin's entertainment center consists of a Bose stereo system, Bose Soundlink portable speaker and Amazon Echo with Alexa. Chill out with an eclectic CD collection, acoustic guitar, nerdy books, National Audubon Society Field Guides, old school games, tavern puzzles and quality art supplies. There is no TV but you can stream with WIFI on devices.
Cozy master with full memory foam mattress, heavy drapes, antler & punched tin lamps and wall art. Inviting bathroom boasts a river rock shower, Kohler plumbing & mason jar lighting. Loft is accessed by sturdy ladder with hand holds and features two super comfy built-in twin beds with memory foam mattresses, vintage dual-head reading lamp, game table with chairs, Army trunks for luggage racks and of course, a dream catcher. The front porch features a hammock swing, glider chair, side table and firewood storage. A gas grill is off the porch. A rope hammock for two stretches between two elms in the front yard and a bistro table for two is in the garden.
The Tiny Log Cabin is both private and yet amidst the farm. The garden is 50’ to the left of the cabin. The 140x65 outdoor riding ring is 50’ behind the cabin. The circa 1840s farmhouse is across the dirt road from the cabin as is the horse stable, chicken & goat coops, apiary, 140x70 heated indoor riding ring, round pen, bridle paths, equine obstacle course and pastures. Guests are welcome to roam the farm and enjoy the animals, nature and wildlife.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to explore and relax on the farm. There are many farm animals, birds and wildlife to observe. The pond is full of frogs and dragonfly species. A babbling brook runs along the property (purported to be good for gold panning!). The gardens and fruit trees are full of interesting pollinators. The woods are lush and fascinating... and we are courteous & friendly!
Other things to note
Although this is a hobby farm, it is an actual working farm so animals are all around and active. If you choose to participate in any activities with the animals such as grooming, grazing or walking a horse to morning pastures, etc. we kindly ask that you sign a Liability Waiver as mandated by insurance and wear closed-toe shoes (that you don't mind getting dirty). During thaws and mild winters the farm yard can be wet and muddy.
Horses: Horseback riding is not available for anyone without their own horse. Our facility is private and not run as a boarding or lesson business. Our horses are good natured but not suitable for dude ranching. In the future we plan to offer horse accommodations for those seeking to travel with their equine friends and enjoy the beautiful trails, lakes and various facilities our farm offers. Although we are in the planning stages, we may be able to accommodate a small party so please inquire directly or stayed tuned for future announcements.
Generator: In the event of a power outage the cabin has a back-up generator that will run everything. This will require us to access the cabin's utility room for a few minutes and then attach a portable generator to the exterior plug behind the cabin. We are in a densely treed, rural area and although rare, power outages can happen during storms.
Lake Fun: We do not provide beach towels, watercraft, water toys or fishing tackle. But these are the best way to enjoy the lakes. The closest lakes Manning & Crystal are best enjoyed by having crafts to go out and explore on (even just a blow up raft) as there are really no beaches from which to camp out and swim from. Manning has a boat launch as does Crystal which also has a very small beach in a secluded cove that is designed for children to swim within a designated area.
Provisions: The kitchen is stocked with the following: Starbuck's Pike Place K-Cups, Mini-Moos Half & Half, raw cane sugar packets, an assortment of Tazo, Stash, Yogi & Newman's Organic teas, instant oatmeal packets, healthy snack bars, Newman's microwave popcorn, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, butter, peanut butter, jam, mayo, ketchup, mustard & a basic assortment of Morton & Bassett spices. The tap water is via artesian well and is run through a water filtration system. Depending on season & availability fresh free-range organic farm eggs, honey & maple syrup are shared and Guests are welcome to harvest from the garden.
Old School Entertainment Supplies: Harken back to the days of original gaming with Scrabble, Haikubes, Chess, Backgammon, playing cards and much more. Put your problem solving skills to the ultimate test with hand forged Tavern Puzzles. Waken your creative side with art supplies including: sketch boards, a variety of quality papers, Prismacolor colored pencils & pastels, graphite sketch pencils, adult coloring books, how-to books and more. Enlighten your mind with variety of nerdy books including: nature field guides, local history, creative inspiration books & exotic dictionaries for writer's and the odd and eccentric novel, folktale or amusement. Maybe, pamper yourself first and pop on a complimentary facial mask! Explore your introspective side with conversation cards, oracle board or tarot cards (learner's deck). Kick back on the porch and strum on the acoustic guitar or loose yourself in the rhythm of the bongos. Release your inner hippie with hacky sacs, pass the frisbee or break out the badminton on the front yard. Discover "wanderlusting" on the vintage Schwinn Crusier with big wicker basket. I mean, who needs wifi?... but we've got it anyway...mostly for great tunes ;)

Grandstead is a historic 1793 farmhouse, full of original character—wide-plank floors, hand-hewn beams, and antique charm. While it has been lovingly updated, you may notice the quirks of an old home, like slightly uneven floors or vintage windows.
The property sits on 5 private acres and abuts a beautiful historic cemetery, which guests often enjoy walking for its peaceful, winding paths.
Please note: no open flames or pets are allowed due to the age of the home and safety considerations.
