Located on the wooded flanks of Black Mountain and overlooking the grasslands of Nicasio Valley, the "Tree House'' is a truly private getaway. This two story home is nestled among oaks and bay laurels adjacent to an all-year stream that flows to the valley reservoir. The two bedroom, two bath home, with an exceptionally equipped and distinctly outfitted gourmet kitchen, should be enough to keep you comfortably at home. But if daytime activities are in your plans, the town of Point Reyes Station and the National Seashore is a short distance from Tree House. This historical, three block long town, with its unique shops, restaurants, bakeries and weekend farmers market is five minutes away. A twenty minute drive puts you at the Point Reyes National Seashore Visitor Center, the gateway to one of the most unique places on this earth. All within the park are whale watching in winter, amazing walks on sunny or fog shrouded beaches, hiking on miles of trails, or kayaking on the sheltered waters of Tomales Bay. End the day at one of the town's restaurants or back home at the Tree House, sharing the comfort of the wood burning stove, a BBQ on the deck, or your own home cooked evening dinner.

The main gathering area of Tree House is appointed with custom designed contemporary furnishings. A glass block wall bathes the interiors slate floor and brightly colored rugs with morning sun. The dining space, seating six, looks out towards an intimate view of the wooded landscape. The adjoining open kitchen with contemporary stainless steel appliances, Nespresso coffee maker, an array of cookware, and a tasteful selection of tableware makes this home a gourmet's delight. The downstairs bedroom with a cozy double bed is also bathed in sunlight through a glass block wall. This room has a separate exterior entrance off the covered, heated and furnished deck -- a nice place for morning coffee, even in poor weather.

The master bedroom upstairs features a glass enclosed built in window settee. This eight foot long cushioned space projects out into the wooded tree canopy. This is a cozy spot for a good read or a daytime nap. At night, the second floor master bedroom and bath suite with queen bed is a most private and comfortable space. An additional sleeping area with twin beds is offered in the uniquely designed loft space above the living room.

Throughout the house is a collection of artwork by local artists, largely depicting the landscapes and ranch settings of the Nicasio Valley. The upper level "main house" is owner occupied but has been closed off from the lower level to provide maximum privacy.

The bedroom has a luxuriously comfortable king size bed with soft high thread count linens. The galley kitchen is well appointed with all new Keurig coffee maker, microwave oven, four burner gas range, a small refrigerator/freezer, blender, toaster and a range of cookware, utensils, cups and glassware. Coffee, tea and a few basics are also provided. There are also plenty of fresh towels including large beach towels for the pool.

Please note: there is a short set of stairs that take you to your front door, so wheelchair access is not available.

We had lazy mornings by the pool or on the beautiful patio, then we would go and explore the surrounding area.... we hiked Mount Tamalpais which you can see from the pool! we visited some wineries, had a lovely long walk at Point Reyes, drove some of Route 1 and visited cute little towns but always made sure we were back to enjoy a few hours by the pool every afternoon with a cocktail. It was our favorite part of the day! We enjoyed our stay so much, it truly is a little slice of heaven. We hope to return again one day!"

The Master Bedroom Suite is large and very private with a king size bed. A stunning window wall with a Bay Tree view, dominates the space. The room has a TV/ Media Center and a small sofa that converts into a full bed for use in this room if needed. The adjoining large, private, well-appointed master bath with euro-style fixtures and large glass enclosed shower completes the master suite.

The second bedroom located at the opposite end of the main living space has a queen bed. This room also has an integrated office /work space for the person that just cannot get away from "work". Down 24 steps from the unit, you'll find a serene outdoor spa area with a hot tub under the stars, outdoor shower, cold plunge, and a seasonal fire pit (lit by host). A sauna is available by reservation for an additional fee.

Relax in this stylish studio surrounded by trees, keyless entry, full kitchen with island doubles as a work-space, wireless internet, filtered water , shower, 1 queen bed, 1 single bay window bed, own deck. The studio naturally stays cool during summer months.

This is a chemical free space. Our cleaning products are vegan and free of harsh chemicals. Cotton bed sheets, comforters and towels, down comforter and pillows. Organic coffee, tea and sugar.

The studio is walking distance to a cafe by the creek and an organic farm stand. 2 minutes drive or 15 min walk to a great Indian restaurant, as well as an Italian restaurant. 8 min drive to downtown Fairfax, 30 minute drive to the beaches. Lots of walking and hiking trails in every direction.

Building has 2 floors. Listing is on the 1st floor. Guests have the studio to themselves, including the deck where the entry is. However please note that we live in the same building and would like our guests to be mindful of noise levels. Our studio is not suitable for partying. If you would like to play music please either play it very softly or bring headphones. Quiet hours between 10pm-8am. A lot of our guests are nature enthusiasts and some of them visit Spirit Rock Meditation Center.

Parking is on a narrow street that requires you to back into a driveway to turn around. There are 54 steps going up to the studio.

The home is set up for self check-in. Guests can access the home via lockbox and will have access to the entire home.

1. Confirmed guests will receive a local `Insider`s Guide`. We`re a family business deeply connected to our community, and we hope you`ll enjoy and respect this beautiful corner of the world while supporting our local economy sustainably. We love sharing it with our guests!

2. The home is professionally cleaned with eco-friendly products.

3. No chores for our guests! That’s what the cleaning fee is for, right? We have a fantastic team of housekeepers, some of whom have worked with us for over 10 years. We fully clean each home top to bottom, fully restocking all amenities, replacing worn-out items, and keeping things fresh and pleasant for our guests. We use top-notch cleaning products without annoying scents or chemicals, and our cleaners are paid living wages because they are the backbone of what we do and you’ll appreciate their attention to detail.

4. We do have a video surveillance camera on the parking area (only), as well as family members who live at the main ranch house. So while your privacy and comfort is assured, we will not tolerate any abuse of our `NO PARTIES - NO ANIMALS` policy. If you`re looking for a place to cut loose and laugh and play music late into the night, we have other homes nearby that are more appropriate. Please ask us for alternative accommodation and we’d be happy to help find a place!

5. Outside guests are limited to 2 without prior approval.

6. Please note that there are cattle grates preventing the cows from entering the area close to the home, but you may have to drive slowly if the herd is grazing along the entrance road, as there are no fences down there, and the cows tend to wander across the road right when you get close.

Guest interaction:
The property is set up for contactless entry. We are a local company that manages the property. We`re just 15 minutes away, and our office is in Point Reyes Station. We`re here 7 days a week to answer your questions or address any issues, usually within an hour, even on weekends and holidays.

Neighborhood:
Discover the hidden gem of Nicasio, a serene valley just minutes away from Marin suburbs and Point Reyes Station. This area is surrounded by rolling hills and is very quiet and secluded. Enjoy hiking and biking trails, kayaking, and exploring the nearby Point Reyes National Seashore. The town of Point Reyes Station is very walkable and has many great places to visit, including Bovine Bakery, Tomales Bay Foods, and Station House Cafe.

Getting around:
There is plenty of parking in the driveway. You will need a car/bike to get around.

Downtown restaurant scene is a two minute drive or a short walk, Peri Park, which is great for kids, is even closer. Easy access to Mount Tam state park with walks in the Redwoods and some of the finest trails in the world.

Our home is on a one acre property.
Geraldine and Joe, the owners, maintain a small apartment on the upper level at the very end of the main house. They travel approximately six months of the year. If they are not traveling, they reside in that small in-law apartment.
Geraldine and Joe are completely independent of their guests and do not share any part of the over 1/2 acre private guest areas.
In 10 years, they have never had an issue with their guests.
Their home is very well insulated.
They do not hear guests (even crying babies and screaming children) and guests do not hear the owners.
Geraldine and Joe have a private entrance, kitchen, etc.
They are very sensitive to Guests' privacy. They do not use the pool or hot tub.
Geraldine and Joe do work in the upper level 1/2 acre garden area (guests are fully welcome in that area as well). If Geraldine and Joe are in residence, the upper garden area and the driveway are the only places guests and owners might encounter one another.
There are three levels to the expansive property.
Guests are almost always on the main level with the 100 foot long large deck area or on the large pool and hot tub deck area which is a level below the main level.
The owner area is on the upper garden level in the very back.

This stylish place to stay is perfect for larger group trips. It offers the same amenities as our 2-bedroom listing, but includes the newly renovated 1st Floor Master Bedroom & Spa Bathroom Suite and it's 2 private decks and yard secluded from the rest of the home.

Nestled on a north facing hill in the middle of the Redwoods, this house offers expansive views into the redwoods and the natural habit of the life it embraces.

In addition, being owned by an award-winning lighting designer with a background in interior design and architecture, the home offers many unique characteristics that will make this an exceptional experience to stay in.

Where We Are and Nearby Things To Do

This 3000 square foot house is located in the California Redwoods of the San Geronimo Valley in Central Marin, almost halfway between the transportation hub of San Rafael (9 miles-17-30 minutes depending on traffic) and the Point Reyes National Seashore's Limantour Beach (20 miles -35 minutes depending on your comfort with windy beautiful roads).

For the cheese lovers, it is an 8-minute drive to the local Nicasio Valley cheese creamery which we can provide instructions to follow the famous cheese trail loop for a yummy day's outing.

For wine lovers, you can find the burning bench vineyard (1.4 miles-3 minutes) and get to the heart of Sonoma County wineries within 45-90 minutes, and Napa Valley in about an hour or longer, depending on your destination.

We also supply an amazing day trip sightseeing loop suggestion to see the variety of what this unique area provides in sightseeing and culinary experiences. In addition, waterproof maps are provided for hiking and biking the area.

About the House

The Retreat in the Redwoods is furnished and designed in contemporary furnishings in a barn style, we call it” Modern Barn style” or “Organic Contemporary”, a phrase that Inga has come up with long before it was the cool thing to do. Currently we list the 2-bedroom rental separately, but this listing adds a third amazing element, which is the recently renovated downstairs master suite and adjacent luxury spa bath. There will never be an overlap of guests in the house (The entire house is privately rented as either a 2 bedroom or a 3 bedroom)

The Kitchen

The reviews on our retreat (from other listings) indicate that the most loved aspect of the house is the 450 Square foot kitchen, which is a chef and baker's dream. It is guaranteed to thrill you to entertain in, whether you have 1 chef in the family or many! The central 11’ x 4’ stone island is our guest’s favorite place to belly up to and converse while preparing, cooking, eating or “happy-hour-Ing"! There are 6 wood bar stools for your family and friends to converse with you while cooking (without getting in the way.) An additional redwood stumped glass breakfast table (salvaged from our forest) offers more seating choices. The newest technology in warm glow LED lighting will give you an insight as to where lighting is going in the future. There are lighting control keypads creating varying moods as well as a sound dock to hook up your MP3 player via Bluetooth, which will play your music through the kitchen. The kitchen is stocked with high end supplies that we love and live with (not like the bare essentials we have found in other rentals). You will find plenty of spices and staples, eliminating the need to stock up on things rarely used, such as olive oil and other items we feel to be a necessity!

Decks and Outdoor spaces

The kitchen opens to 2 decks allowing private conversation on the north deck, and BBQ dinners or firepit star watching gatherings on the large south deck. The large South deck is the most popular deck with it's sectional seating area and gas fire pit, table for 6 people, outdoor grill. 2 large heaters, a "green wall" of fern and a view into 1600 acres of open space. This is also where the hot tub lives.

The north side of the kitchen has a balcony porch with a heater, warm blankets stored in a trunk, and 3 Adirondack chairs. It is a beautiful place to watch the sunset in the summer with a glass of local wine!

Hot Tub

The 2–3-person hot tub is found just behind the house on the south deck under a large eave and is accessible off the kitchen and the master suite. It is the perfect place to get a jet massage while enjoying the redwood forest, even in the rain! We supply an UMA lantern that also streams your music via Bluetooth in surround sound and also has warm dimming.

Guest Community Areas

Also included is a beautiful very large living room with seating for at least 8-10 (depending on your intimacy), a fireplace, 75" HD TV with Roku and DVD, adjacent dining room for 6, a recently updated downstairs powder room with Bidet toilet, and a huge 500 sf upstairs multi-purpose room / 2- workstation office / 2 TVs / yoga/ exercise / extra sleeping room which holds 2 queen sized air mattresses for extra guests (extra guest fees apply).

Office Workstations

The two laptop friendly 30" x 54" office workstations in the multipurpose room both have ergonomic Steelcase chairs, Samsung 32-inch CF391 Curved Monitors with 1080p, and direct internet cable connections, and a connected HP printer for 8.5 x 11" or 11 x 17" printing... so all you need is your laptop and HDMI cable and you'll be working faster than if you were at the office (If you can remember doing so!)

In the summer, the sun sets in this room’s 25' wide wall of glazing, so you will be sure to know when it is time to "leave the office" and move to the happy hour porch! The office also boasts perfect indirect lighting meeting the IESNA standard office lighting levels for both workstations. (Don't worry, the "office indirect lighting" blends beautifully into the residential architecture and can be dimmed while the room is in "Yoga" and "bedroom" mode:)The internet speed is tremendous at 91.6Mbps download and 38.6Mbps upload.

Bedrooms

Master Bedroom Suite
This very newly renovated Suite is found on the first floor and boasts an eastern king memory foam mattress and linen or bamboo sheets. At the 2 window corner hang modern and amazingly comfortable egg chairs where you can spin 360° to view the sunrise through the redwoods. Two 6’ closets hold lots of hanging wardrobe as well as having shelves and drawers. Fluffy terry robes are found here for your convenience. The bedroom has a 32" flat screen TV with Roku and has 2 private porches and yard accessed by sliding glass doors.

The newly renovated 150 square foot master bath has a (1 person-sorry!) deep soaking high pressure air jet massage / or a soothing soft bubbling whirlpool tub next to a 6' wide picture window looking into the forest; and a 2-person walk in shower with 2 rain towers that hold a rain shower and body jets off a natural rock wall. The shower also has an architecturally integrated linear up light grazer that highlights the rocks with a tunable color selection. The room also has a TV, Sonos amp, invisible speakers, color tuning and dehumidifying vanity mirrors and flanking mouth blown modern glass pendants from Niche lighting.

Harmony and Tranquility Bedrooms

These two rooms have a connecting door which will be set up in in either of the 2 ways you select before your arrival:

This can be set up as a 1-bedroom suite with separate sitting area. The Harmony room has a queen memory foam mattress with a cooling gel top which is normally the main bedroom if you only need one bed. The adjacent Tranquility room with solid core door access from the Harmony room has a full size super comfy sectional and micro kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances for late night snacks and drinks or a coffee /breakfast bar in the morning.

Or, this can be set up as a 2- bedroom. The Tranquility bedroom has a pull down extremely comfortable double mattress, so it can be used as another separate bedroom.

Each of the "treehouse" bedrooms have amazing redwood views, wall hung flat screen smart TVs, and two 100% organic Turkish cotton bathrobes for your use and enjoyment while visiting.

The upstairs bathroom between the bedrooms has been called the coolest shower ever by our guests. It includes warm natural slate floors and a walk-in shower with a rock wall extending up into a skylight to appreciate the tall tree canopies while bathing under the powerful rain shower.

All our comfortable beds, combined with the silence of the forest, will ensure that you will have your best nights rest. Our guests continually comment on how long and well they sleep, and don’t want to get out of bed, even the early risers!

If you arrived at night, you will be surprisingly shocked at waking up with an immersive view from the floor to ceiling windows.

Entertainment and electronics

The house has great Wi-Fi, smart TVs, a DVD player with +/-50 DVD's (watch movies from your computer or from our Netflix account)

Pets

Oh, and last but not least... "We Love Dogs". Your well-mannered dog may be OK with prior approval. There is a $100 one-time fee for your first dog and an additional $25 for your second dog. Typically there is a 2-dog maximum per stay with a combined weight of 80 lbs. If you have other needs, please inquire.
