Brand new First Basin Lake James rental located in Steuben County, Indiana on the most sought after chain of lakes in the State! SLEEPING:
Comfortably sleeps 9. The master bedroom is on the main floor and features a king bed and attached remodeled master bath with large soaker tub and separate shower. There are two large bedrooms upstairs – one with a queen bed and attached full bath and one with a queen and a twin bed. There is also a relatively private den with a queen size pullout sofa.

LAKE:
Located on a recently dredged channel only three homes from the main part of Jimmerson Lake and a 5 minute boat ride to Lake James. After dredging, the channel is now 45 feet wide and 5 - 6 feet deep. You'll have two dock spaces to accommodate most any type of boat - feel free to ask if you have questions about your boat. If you don't have your own, you can rent pontoons or fishing boats down the street at 'Corner Landing'. As part of the all sports Lake James chain, you have access to over 2,000 acres of water on 5 lakes: Lake James, Jimmerson Lake, Snow Lake, Big Otter Lake, and Little Otter Lake. The Lake James chain offers great swimming at several sandy public beaches and sand bars.

YARD:
Unique for a lake house, the large, flat 1/2 acre lot gives you plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors with a family cookout, bonfire, or lawn games. The house has a large deck, big level grassy area, two sets of tables and chairs, a gas and a charcoal grill, and a fire pit. Wildlife frequent the area including heron, swans, ducks, turtles, and deer.

LOCATION:
The location is quiet but still very convenient – just a few minutes from I-69 or the Indiana toll road and walking distance to downtown Lake James with its restaurants and bars (Tom’s Donuts, Acapulco Mexican Grill, Club Paradise). It’s also just a few miles from Indiana’s best state park, Pokagon, which features beaches, hiking, and a toboggan run in the winter. Also nearby is the town of Angola with its cute downtown square, ice cream shops, mini-golf, Trine University, Fremont outlet mall, Satek Winery, Wild Winds Buffalo Preserve, and golf courses including Glendarin Hills, Zollner, and Lake James.

Crooked Lake is an 800 acre all sports lake with 3 large connecting basins.The home is located on the 3rd basin, which enjoys a reputation for being one of the best 2 mile runs for skiing and wake boarding in the area complete with a slalom course! Pontoons regularly tour the basin. The fish are plentiful too! You can also just relax and enjoy watching the action from the decks or shore. Weekly 7 day rental runs Friday (4pm check-in) to Friday (10am check-out) from May 24th holiday week to Labor Day holiday week. Winter, spring, fall only require a 3 day minimum. Bring your water toys and/or boat (rentals available on the lake) and get ready to have a vacation to remember with family and friends!

- "Really loved this place. Great collection of toys for kids both in the house and at the water. We loved having 2 living spaces one on the ground floor near the kitchen and one in the basement for the kids with games toys and a tv. The older people with us had trouble with the hill from the boat dock to the house, the incline followed by the stairs was a bit much for them. We rented a boat for the week, it was a large pontoon and it did fit on the dock. Would absolutely return and recommend."

- "This house is amazing! The bedrooms were sizable and just perfect for our family of 8 adults and 9 grandchildren. Everything was nicely stocked from the shampoos, towels, spices, firewood, games, on down. The only negatives were that the large rec room/bedroom with 6 bunk beds was very cold & couldn’t be changed. Also, the Ring smoke detectors/security lights in each bedroom were too sensitive….you couldn’t even roll over in bed without them coming on."

Single story cottage located directly on Jimmerson Lake with pier and small sandy beach area. Originally built in the 1950's by owner's grandparents, the home has been charmingly re-decorated and has a large deck with excellent sunset views. Jimmerson Lake is a 203 acre lake that is popular for fishing and is also open to skiers. The cottage is located on a large cove of the lake with less ski boat traffic making it easier to float or swim. Take your boat and access all the lakes on the Lake James chain including Jimmerson Lake, Lake James (1,039 acres), Snow Lake (421 acres), Big Otter Lake and Little Otter Lake.
The cottage is the perfect relaxing retreat for a family or avid fishermen who plan to spend most of their time outdoors and on the lake. Peace and quiet during the Fall and Spring is a fantastic time to visit and get away from the hustle and bustle! Take time to unwind! The cottage has a small but functional kitchen with stove, sink and refrigerator with a large round table that seats 8. Standard kitchen items included. Three bedrooms (2 with closet space) are charming with plenty of windows to let the breeze blow through. Two of the bedrooms offer lake views. Additional sleeping is available with a sofa sleeper bed. The single bathroom offers a remodeled feel with a shower only - no tub.
Spend your days on the lake: boating, swimming, and fishing then spend your evenings playing yard games in the adjacent shaded lot or relaxing with the sunset views from the deck. Plenty of private lakefront footage includes a seawall with sandy walk in access area. Water stays around knee high for 15 feet from seawall perfect for children and allows easy access for kayaks/canoe. Adjacent lot offers ample parking space as well as room to set up badminton, croquet, corn hole or toss a ball. In addition bring some firewood for the fire pit located on adjacent lots.
This excellent location on the lake is located within a 1/2 mile of a well maintained free conservation public boat access. In addition, the cottage is near Pokagon State Park, and Trine conservation area for hiking and biking, Tom's Donuts and several excellent local restaurants. If you prefer to fish, you can access through channels Big Otter Lake and Little Otter Lake which are non-ski lakes. Fishermen may find largemouth bass, brook trout, brown trout, bluegill, and flathead catfish as well as Northern Pike, Walleye, and Crappie throughout the chain of lakes.
Home Owners are sharing their 2 kayaks, canoe and rowboat. The cottage also comes with beach style chairs, lawn chairs and plenty of seating on the deck.
The cottage does have wifi. There is room on the pier so if guests choose, boats may be rented from The Corner Landing or guests may bring their own boat. Free lake boat access less than a mile away.

You can gather around the lower back patio propane Fire Pit on cool evenings or light up the upper deck gas grill for barbecuing on sunny afternoons. All linens are provided except for beach towels.

The dock is available if you bring a boat. Boat rental is available at the Corner Landing nearby. You can conveniently navigate your rental boat directly from Corner Landing rental to our dock. Enjoy the seasonal boat rental services offered at Corner Landing (CornerLanding.net) and take advantage of the convenience of parking your boat at our private dock. The easement to the dock is about a 200 yard walk across a yard, with access to Snow Lake, part of the Chain of Lakes that includes Lake James, Jimmerson Lake, and Big Otter Lake. Please note there is not a swimmable shoreline near the private dock. However, there is a public access site at the end of our road where you can swim and also, and just three miles away, you can find Pokagon State Park, which offers a sandy beach area. Additionally, there are various enjoyable attractions such as movie theaters, winery tours, as well as boat launches, shopping centers, and restaurants in the area.

Carrie and Greg have thought of EVERYTHING! From a fully equipped kitchen to pickle ball court! You really only need to bring beach towels and sunscreen. We loved that the private boat dock was close, but we still had room for corn hole boards, running around, and outdoor bubbles for the littles. The location is great too. We were able to play golf, disc golf, visit a state park, and shop all within 10-15 minute drive. Carrie provided us with great information when we arrived about restaurants, swimming spots, sandbars, etc. Snow Lake is so calm and peaceful, but you could also travel on the chain of lakes for a different experience. Everyone left having a great experience!"

Main Floor - Boasts a large open concept Kitchen Entertainment area with ample cooking space and a large island, and kitchen table that shares the entertainment living room area for ultimate inside entertaining!

Upper Floor - Our master bedroom with walk out to upper patio is very ample boasting a large walk through closet area (one side has room for an infant sleeping area) to a 5 piece bathroom. There is a queen size bedroom overlooking the lake, along with a kids bunkbed bedroom with full size bed, and another queen size bedroom. Our mid level has another bedroom with a full size bed.

Outside - We absolutely love our Outside Oasis!. Our home has an upper deck for quiet nights or overlooking the "lakefront grounds" with a gorgeous view. The lower patio area that walks out from the Main level has a huge BBQ with prep cart, 6 seat patio table along with a picnic table beside it. Walking towards the lake, we have a beautiful patio with a view that is also absolutely gorgeous with ample seating and space for a large family. Moving down towards the lake our Mid level boasts some loungers for those wishing to "soak up the sun". At the lake there is a dock for fishing, boats, and a grassy area for lounging. Yes we said "gorgeous" more than once, because we think you are going to love our Outside Oasis!

Crooked Lake is an 800 acre all sports lake with 3 large connecting basins. The home is located on the 3rd basin, which enjoys a reputation for being one of the best 2 mile runs for skiing and wake boarding in the area complete with a slalom course! The fish are plentiful too! You can also just relax and enjoy watching the action from the decks or shore. Weekly 7 day rental runs Friday (4pm check-in) to Friday (10am check-out) from May 24th holiday week to Labor Day holiday week. Winter, spring, fall only require a 3 day minimum. Bring your water toys and/or boat (rentals available on the lake) and get ready to have a vacation to remember with family and friends.

The main floor's open kitchen and entertainment area provided a fantastic space for family bonding and gathering. The other bedrooms provided ample sleeping arrangements for everyone. The outside oasis truly lived up to its name! The cottage is super clean, obviously recently renovated so everything is updated, plenty of space for 6 people.The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking gear, grill and laundry on site.Lake Gage is not busy- perfect for enjoying some peace and quiet, yet stores in Angola are only minutes away.The neighbors are friendly- everyone waves as they go past! Travis was a great communicator, always answering my questions right away. We are from Minnesota, so we have rented many lake homes and yet Travis's cottage/Lake Gage was, by far, the best we've experienced. We'll be back next summer!"

The location is central to the heart of the lake as well. Perfect for a small group! Only suggestion is to literally line the parking spots as that was a source of some confusion. Overall, great stay" - "Nice property for our short vacation. Once acclimated we were able to find everything we needed. Loved the view & activities were close by. Suggestion: Provide written instructions for the thermostat, TV & door lock. - "The property was great! Glen and Joann were pleasant and helpful and checked in to make sure everything was okay. We had 10 adults, a teenager, a child and 2 infants in the house. We really had a great time. We enjoyed the firepit twice. We set up corn hole in the front yard. We thoroughly enjoyed the boat. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed for several large meals. The living room was large enough for all of us to be together. We really appreciated all the towels! We washed them a couple times, but there were plenty for all of us. The little perks of shampoo, conditioner & body wash along with dish detergent and laundry detergent were so very nice. It was a great place for all of us to get together from several states."

Large water front home and detached party zone with plenty of room for everyone. Large dock for your use. Hot tub, kayaks, canoe, several yard games, firewood, dog kennels, baby equipment, sand wagon, big grill, fishing gear, 3 smart TVs, etc. Big bedrooms and a loft with 3 full baths. The space
You can enjoy all day just relaxing in the large yard playing the many different yard games or fishing off the dock in the canal. Take our kayaks out for a peaceful spin or walk 5 minutes down to the neighborhood private sandy beach. When you get back take a nap on the upper deck in our daybed. When everyone gets hungry just fire up the dual charcoal and gas grill (charcoal and gas provided) or go to one of the many delicious restaurants one mile down the road. Don't forget to relax in the 6 person hot tub on the first level of the deck. And then end the evening building a fire with fire wood that's provided for you.

Our home has plenty of space to spread out incase of a rainy day. Comfy couches in the livingroom to watch movies on the Smart TV. Another smart tv with a Roku in the upstairs bedroom. And don’t forget the detached party zone with a large smart TV with a Roku, darts and a table with a topper for a good friendly of poker.

Guest access
You’re welcome to the entire house, yard and use of the dock. You also have use of the bottom of the detached garage, which we have converted into a party room. It has a smart tv, extra fridge, dart board and all the yard toys.

Other things to note
Please note our property is not handicap accessible. There are 12 steps from the street to the property.

Also we are on a canal with a tight corner for boats longer than 24 foot.

Due to week long rentals in the summer it may be necessary for us to have the lawn mowed during your stay. Our goal is to do lawn care in between stays but it can not be guaranteed.

The space
Both the 2-story home and entertainment cabin offer GORGEOUS views of Lake James, perfect for waking up to watch the sunrise over the water.

(Please note, any reviews before July 2021 were reviews from my two old cabins before the home was built)

The home offers 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a full kitchen, a fireplace, and a large deck equipped with a gas grill overlooking Lake James.

The entertainment cabin has a bathroom, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, ice maker, and outdoor gas grill. Also included is a large screen TV w/ surround sound and 2 garage/industrial size doors which open to the lakeside deck and water. The cabin has a large walkout deck and "beach"/waterfront access, which is perfect for swimming or fishing. The lakeside entertainment cabin will only be made available during the summer months (May through September).

Guest access
All guests will enjoy keyless entry, and guests will have access to both the home and entertainment cabin (Summer months only), two gas grills, private parking spaces, and a boat dock.

ALL rules will be strictly enforced!
The firepit area on the 2nd level is for owner use only and will be blocked off.
The lakeside entertainment cabin will only be made available during the summer months (May through September).
