- "This is a great property and accurately described in the listing. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. There are beach towels, chairs, boogie boards a cooler and umbrella for your beach days. The beds were very comfortable and the neighborhood felt safe. You can walk directly down to the beach from the home. There is also a larger beach a bit up the road. Salt Pond State Park is also close and has a nice swimming area with lifeguards on duty. Close in proximity to the cute little town of Waimea. Also not a far drive to Waimea Canyon or Port Allen. We appreciated the location of the home and the daily visits from the rooster next door. I would highly recommend this property and we would definitely stay again!"

Blue Lotus Cottage is a special beach cottage, custom built in 2005, and only one short block back from the ocean with a wide and direct ocean view.
A short walk (100+ steps) takes you to a small sandy beach area. Kekaha is small residential town, away from the crowds and major resorts, situated at the base of the Waimea Canyon. You will definitely get the island experience in this people friendly town, with Hawaiian neighbors. Kick back on the shaded ocean view lanai, in comfy lounge chairs, and enjoy the ocean breeze and look for whales. Enjoy the best sunsets the island has to offer, and get the least amount of rain and humidity on your vacation. With less than 15 inches of rain a year, this is the place to be when the rain is falling on other parts of the island.

The open floor plan incorporates the kitchen, great room, and dining area....all with a great ocean view. Walls of windows capture the trade winds, keeping the cottage comfortable.
The kitchen has a large island with stools and granite countertops. The kitchen is fully equipped with newer appliances, including a glass top range, fridge, dishwasher, oven, and microwave. Cooking meals at home is a pleasure. Every kitchen small appliance is here from coffee grinder to rice cooker, food processor, and a blender to make that island drink.
Beautifully furnished with wicker, sea grass, teak wood, island decor and art. Maple wood floors and fans in every room. A master bedroom with it's own bath, newer King bedroom furniture and mattress. There is also a second TV in the master bedroom. The second bedroom has NOVA MEMORY FOAM KING BED, and lots of soft pillows for added comfort. This room can also be made into a twin room upon request. There is a trundle bed in the 3rd bedroom, also with memory foam. All of the linens are new 500 ct. cotton sateen, and the towels are thick and thirsty. The personality and charm of this cottage will make your vacation one of the best experiences ever.

Kekaha Beach Park, about 1 mile away, offes lifeguard safety. Salt Pond Beach Park, about 15 minutes away, is a perfect crescent shaped beach park, which is ideal for small children with small waves. Polihale State Beach is for the adventurous beach goer, looking for that wild dune backed beach. After a bumpy 5 mile dirt road, you are rewarded with a secluded beach that is, to many, the most beautiful on the island.

At the base of the Waimea Canyon, you have direct access to fantastic scenery, and miles of hiking opportunities. It is often been called the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific'.

Hanapepe Art Night, every Friday night, is for the art lover and only 10 minutes away. It's restored galleries have many art treasures for viewing and purchase.

Waimea, only two miles away, has a grocery store, restaurants, and a movie theater. Don't miss the fresh shrimp from the nearby Sunrise Shrimp Farm. Within minutes, there are several restaurants for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For a special night out, the Poipu Resort area offers you numerous upscale dining and shopping opportunities.
Fifteen minutes to Port Allen marina, this is the starting point for the Na Pali Coast boat tours. Also nearby by, the Kauai Coffee offers taste testing and tours. Lots of areas to sit and recharge (multiple lanais). The beach view was amazing. Lots of amenities in the home to use (condiments, spices, beach toys, snorkels, other beach accessories). This side of the island is much less touristy but that is what we were looking for. Close to lots of Waimea Canyon hiking and several really great restaurants in the town of Waimea. We are glad to say that in our 16 years of ownership of this property, we have not experienced any damage from a Hurricane or Tsunami at this location. It is good practice, however, to have an emergency plan in place as this property is located in a Tsunami Evacuation Zone. Please see the map below which details the preferred routes and emergency locations for both Hurricane and Tsunami Warnings. In essence, Hurricane Shelter is provided at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center, one block West; and in case of Tsunami Warning, local residents drive up the close by Highway 552 towards Waimea Canyon / Koke`e Park. Most experts say that once you are at least 100 feet above sea level, you are out of Tsunami danger. This can be accomplished in approximately a five-minute drive from the house. - "This home is located right at the ocean with easy access to the beach. We had some unforeseen upon arrival but working closely with Patrick and Jules they were able to resolve things in a few days and really went the extra mile. On your way from the airport, stop at Costco for bulk items (eggs, bacon, liquor, chips, etc.) There is a Safeway near Costco so get things that perish quicker from here and in reasonable quantity. There is also a local market in Waimea if you need emergency items you missed. Waimea Canyon is a short drive from the house and absolutely do not miss Polihale Beach. The road is not paved and quite bumpy but you will not regret the adventure. It's a very short distance from the house. There is some road noise when sitting on the Lanai, but honestly, you won't even mind it because you're looking out at the ocean all day. Kekaha is much more quiet than many of the other locations on Kauai; and it's the dry side of the island so it doesn't get a ton of rain which is great if you enjoy the sunny weather. However, any short drive on the island you'll likely enjoy a pop up rain shower every now and then. Overall a great visit and we looking forward to visiting the island again. Welcome to 'Hale Lokahi', where the only thing between the lanai and the ocean is the long sandy beach that seems to go for miles. The covered oceanfront lanai runs the full width of the house, so you have a front row seat from which to view sizzling sunsets over the ocean towards the island of Niihau. There are very few actual beachfront houses on the Westside, as most have a road between the house and the ocean. BUT NOT HERE!

You can walk to anything and everything from this location. The Waimea River is just short walk away offering fishing and kayaking opportunities. In less than 5 minutes, you can walk to either of the large grocery stores in Waimea, several restaurants and shops, or take in a movie at the Historic Waimea Theater. Walk in the footsteps of Captain Cook, where he came ashore in 1778 as the first Westerner to come to Hawaii. This is old Hawaii and far from the tourist crowds. This Kekaha estate was featured in the book the Hawaiian House Now and was one of only two houses from Kauai in the book published in 2007. Hawaii still lives in Kekaha said Gail Miller of the sleepy West Kauai town she lived in since 1998, when this publicized and well known designer purchased this Sugar Mill Manager home. Originally built in 1933, it was purchased by Miller after she first saw this beach side house. It was the original features, many of which were preserved during the extensive renovation, that attracted her to this house. Rich Douglas fir floors, gracious archways, ceilings fabricated from sugar cane, and large rooms that opened onto the outdoors provided the ingredients to create and preserve a piece of rich Hawaiian heritage. Neutral colors have been used to highlight the beauty of the outdoor ocean setting she said in describing the interior finishes. Surfers and tourists line the shore to watch the sun drop into the western horizon at an hour that used to bustle with workers returning from the fields to their homes here in Kekaha.

- "This home is beautiful and well-equipped. I love the plantation style of architecture and the expert restoration. I must say I have never operated a double hung window with a few fingers!! The view, the privacy, the proximity to Waimea and that outdoor shower are my highlights. I have never had a “shower rainbow” before! Cinch, the neighborhood welcome pup was great company. The furniture is beautiful, beds are comfortable, and there is a blender, huge salad spinner a crock pot in the kitchen! Overall, this is an ideal place to stay."

- "The house was perfect and looked exactly as it did in the pictures from VRBO. The grounds keeper was amazing and the maid cleaning service was immaculately done. Our stay there will forever be one of our fondest memories. We were so grateful to have this experience and wept joyful tears." - "This property was perfect for our family. The west side is chill-exactly what we were looking for. Thank you!" - "I do not say this lightly, because we have stayed in several VRBO properties and this one was absolutely the best. We adored our stay and this house has everything you need. An amazing view, beautiful grounds, pool/spa that rival any resort and plenty of space for everyone. Even though we went on several excursions on this amazing island, my 2 teenage boys repeatedly said their favorite activity was hanging out at the pool. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to prepare meals and we made use of the barbecue as well. Sometimes you stay in a house and the kitchen is really minimally supplied and it is hard to cook anything-that is not the case with this home, it has plenty of pots/pans, utensils and even spices in the cabinet. We also really liked the Waimea area and ate supper there several times. We found the location perfect and driving to activities was not a bother at all. If you are taking any of the Na Pali coast boat tours, you are less than 10 min away. Visiting Waimea Canyon (not to be missed) is only a few minutes away as well. I recommend visiting Salt Pond beach too-only about 15 min away and has a protected area that is perfect for swimming. We also need to sing the praises of Gary, the on-site caretaker who lives in the other house on the property. He was so nice and welcoming and provided an endless supply of mangos and bananas that we throughly enjoyed. We were sad to leave this Paradise and hope to return again! We completely recommend this property without hesitation."
