It was truly cozy and comfortable-- perfect for 2 people. And it is decorated with care and an eye to detail. The lovely quilts were mDe by the owner. It was a great spot for roaming and such a short drive to town without needing to be in the noise and confusion of a tourist town when we were trying to escape that by going on vacation. We highly recommend this location. I baked a coffee cake in the toaster oven and was amazed at how well stocked the kitchen is. I had brought a number of items with me an didn’t need anything! If you are a small family of two or three looking for a quiet and beautiful place in which to spend a vacation, please consider this unit being offered. Located in Mid-Coast Maine on the island of Islesboro, this waterfront property is on the east side of the island at a high elevation with a view from Castine, down Eggemoggin Reach to North Haven. A short walk down to a private, pebbly beach presents you to one of the most picturesque coves on the island. There is a small rowboat here for your pleasure.
The apartment sits over a newly constructed 2-car garage, next door to the owner’s home on a very quiet 10 acre peninsula. A private entrance opens to the staircase leading up to the apartment. The entire building is winterized with comfortable in-floor heating. High Speed WI-FI from a Fibre Optic system is available.
The one large bedroom has a double bed and a twin-size trundle bed. There is also a foldaway twin available. A full bathroom has been designed with stylish fixtures. A hair dryer is provided. Full-size washer and dryer (for use of the renting family only, please) are in this room. Laundry soap and linens are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped, including new appliances—stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposer. Dishes, cookware, cutlery etc. are also provided. The living room faces east with a view of East Penobscot Bay.
Islesboro is a beautiful 14-mile long island in the Penobscot Bay. A 3-mile ride on the State of Maine’s ferry MV Margaret Chase Smith (30 car, 220 passenger capacity) will transport you from Lincolnville Beach to Grindle Point on Islesboro. In July and August a Sailor's Memorial Museum in Grindle Lighthouse is open to the public. The ferry ride is 20 minutes. The peak rate (June 1 - Sept.30) for a round-trip ticket for a car and driver costs $42.50, an adult passenger $17.00, a minor (6-17 yr) $12.00 and a child (0-5yr) is complimentary. Off-peak rates (Oct. 1 - May 31), all round-trip, are $30.00 car and driver, $10.25 adult, $5.00 minor and child $0. The last trip of the day departs Lincolnville Beach at 5pm. You will need a car on the island.
Folks appreciate the solitude and remoteness from the mainland which living on an island affords. Walking (the Islesboro Island Trust maintains several beautiful walking trails in various locations around the island), bicycling (we have two adult all terrain 18-speed Schwinn bicycles), beach combing, picnicking, swimming and kayaking are very popular activities.
If one wants to venture further out about the island, during the summer months the Horse Barn up-island is home to the Pripet Riding Program. In Seal Harbor, mid-island, you’ll find Big Tree Boating’s sailing lessons in full swing (at a very reasonable cost). The town of Islesboro supports summer recreation activities—tennis courts, pickleball, playground etc. which are located mid-island. There is a book store in Dark Harbor and the Town Beach (picnic and recreation area) is at the southern tip of the island. The Islesboro Farmers Market runs mid-June through late August. Also starting in June, the Islesboro Historical Society presents a full schedule of programs, art shows, arts and crafts etc. until the end of August.
Open year-round is the Alice L. Pendleton Library, a public library (with renter memberships available). A fitness center, youth and adult programs and special events happen in the Islesboro Community Center. The ICC installed a new playground on their site in the summer of 2019.
There are no malls on Islesboro but Dark Harbor is a busy village in the summer months with shops and a big favorite—The Dark Harbor Shop (ice cream and “the best” sandwiches). If one needs to take a day for shopping, Camden (6 mi. south of Lincolnville Beach), Rockland (15 mi. south) and Belfast (12 mi. north of Lincolnville Beach) are easy destinations.
There are two grocery/general stores on Islesboro but, as they are closed early evenings and Sundays, we encourage you to purchase food/staples on the mainland before your arrival to last you a day or two.
When booking, you will see that a 40% discount is offered for a month's (28 days) stay. What does not show up is a 60% discount for a stay of 1 or 2 months. A "long-term" monthly discount rate is also offered.
- "Elizabeth was so welcoming and accommodating even though our trip was booked very last-minute! He is a wonderful host who truly has thought of every detail as well as going out of her way to ensure our two year old daughter was also comfortable! We loved our stay and will probably be back soon! <3" - "This was such an amazing place to stay! Elizabeth was so kind and thoughtful and the views were absolutely breathtaking ❤️ We sat at the beach near the house and found so many seashells! It was just what we needed. Thank you so much!"

- "My husband and I have enjoyed many trips to this part of the Maine coast over the past 20 years. Our earlier selections from VRBO were based on "in town" locations so that we could park the car upon arrival and then walk to shops and restaurants. However after discovering Skip and Judy's 'cabin in the woods', we are totally hooked. We loved sitting on the deck, listening to the creek while enjoying a cup of coffee and one of Judy's delcious fresh blueberry muffins. She and Skip spoiled us rotten while we were there! We felt like members of the family. Definitely coming back next year!!"

Are you looking for the quintessential Maine cottage with views of Penobscot Bay and steps away from the beach? Look no further, Overlook Cottage has two bedrooms and one full bath (newly updated 2023) with two full size beds and one queen bed and sleeps 4 adults or 2 adults with children comfortably. Enjoy views while grilling your catch of the day or dining inside the screened porch. Enjoy the Adirondack chairs on the deck or play an outdoor game on the massive green lawn out front. The cottage has a flat screen tv, Bose Sound-bar, internet for those working remote, screened in deck and full (newly renovated in 2023) kitchen. On those cool nights enjoy our newly installed vented contemporary fireplace while watching the waves outside. We are working to lower our environmental impact and have installed a reverse osmosis water system to avoid plastic water bottles and are using laundry sheets instead of wasteful plastic containers. Be sure to bring your own water bottle for your hikes and outdoor adventures. Enchanting downtown Belfast with its quaint shops and delicious restaurants is only 3 miles away. Guided water adventures, relaxation, golf, and local artists are all just minutes away!
- "First trip to Maine (visiting from Atlanta). Home was as described, clean and modern and had everything we needed. Definitely was relaxing and had everything we needed. Would highly recommend!" - "Beautiful cottage on Belfast Bay. Perfect for our family. Thank you for a wonderful stay."

Come to the mid-coast of Maine and step away from your everyday routine. Put your ‘indoor’ life aside while you relax and breathe-in the beauty and tranquility of Maine, out of doors.
This classic, ‘Wicked Cute,’ Maine camp is the perfect get-away to refresh your spirit. Simple and cozy, it provides just what you need – a worry free departure from the hustle and bustle.
But there is more to this camp than just the cabin. This vacation also has you living on a lake with your own private dock! Step outside and take in what Norton Pond has to offer – swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, tanning, napping, relaxing. The adventures are yours for the making.
And your water adventures are not limited to Norton Pond. A waterway connects Norton Pond to the majestic Lake Megunticook, another premier Maine natural resource.
Should you decide to venture from the camp, you will find you are only minutes away from unique Maine attractions including the fabulous Maine coast and its many harbor towns. Camden, one of the most popular Maine coastal villages is only 10 minutes away. Besides the parks, views, dining, and shopping Camden offers, the city also grants you easy access to supplies such as groceries, fuel, etc.
There are also two convenience stores nearby for essentials. Drakes Corner Store happens to carry what the locals consider the best pizza around! (And your hosts consider their breakfast sandwiches and hamburgers the best anywhere!). And The Lincolnville General Store offers another level of food and drink, including a hot lunch bar and baked goods.
Whether you are on your own, with your significant other, some friends, or with a couple kids in tow, this ‘wicked cute’ camp will be good for anything that might be ailing you. Come experience it!
Additional Information:
Sleeping Arrangements? There is one bedroom with a Queen-size bed on the first floor. Two twin beds are upstairs in the loft.
Bathroom? There is one bathroom with a sink, toilet, and hot water shower.
Bringing A Boat? There is a public boat launch on Norton Pond and your boat can be moored at your private dock. (Water skiing, tubing etc are allowed. However no single passenger powered vehicles are allowed such as Jet Skis). There is room to stow your boat trailer at the camp. (Please always check your boat carefully when moving it for any traces of plant life. Invasive plants are a danger to Maine's many wonderful bodies of water. Norton Pond's beauty depends on your diligence in this regard).
Bringing Bikes? The roads around Norton Pond are a combination of paved and gravel with very little traffic so the kids have some great options. The roads further out are standard, two-lane country roads – better reserved for the biking enthusiast.
Exercise? Relaxing is a great form of exercise for those of us needing to get away. But if you also want to get physical while you are at the camp swimming is an obvious choice. Running/Jogging/Walking is also an option. Roads around the Pond are low traffic and scenic – very much outdoors! And country roads further out will give you all the long distances you could want.
Pets? Pets are welcome (see our policy in the rental agreement). We do expect you to clean up after them though. This includes picking up anything they leave behind – whether on our property or on that of your neighbors on the Pond.
Things To Do? (Get ready - It's a long list!)
Enjoy birding, swimming, mountain climbing, hiking, beach walks, clamming, sight seeing, nature walks, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, biking, windjammer cruises and day sailing on schooners, golf, whale watch cruises, museums, shops, restaurants, galleries, wineries, concerts, art shows, auctions, island hopping, farmers markets. . . And this is only what we have come up with so far. . . .
Also:
Acadia National Park (1 1/4 hrs north)
L.L. Bean & Outlet shopping (1 1/2 hrs south)
Lobster Festival, Blues Festival, Windjammer Weekend,
Boat Shows
Sandy Lincolnville Beach, Lobster Pound and ferry to Islesboro (5 miles east to the coast)
PS - Do you like our photos? The best ones are by Rob Dubois.
PPS - We continue to tweak furniture and amenities at The Wicked Cute Camp based on feedback to make your experience better. Because of this you may notice changes from the pictures. Please contact us if you have specific questions about anything.
PPPS - When you arrive you may notice that The Wicked Cute Camp has two web cams (cameras) mounted on the outside of the cabin. These are the only web cams we installed. One is pointed toward the driveway. The other is pointed out toward the pond. We primarily use them during the off season so we know if anyone has pulled into the driveway and to give us a glimpse of Maine when we are not there. We make it a point to not respond to any notifications we receive when guests are at the camp. The only exception to that might be to verify arrival and departures (of guests and cleaning crews) on Saturdays. If you have any questions about our web cams feel free to reach out to us. Your privacy and ability to relax while at The Wicked Cute Camp is very important to us.

- "The wicked cute camp exceeded all expectations. It’s always a bit of a gamble booking a place you haven’t seen for a whole week, but our only regret is we didn’t book for longer! It was so hard to leave. If it sounds like it is your kind of vacation, I strongly recommend this camp. Norton pond is bigger than the ‘lake’ we have here, and the lake it connects to is enormous. They don’t have kayaks for you, but their recommendation for where to rent was perfect – they even deliver. The small touches really put everything over the top. We had brought our own Yahtzee game and they even had that already there! It’s so thoughtfully put together you can’t help but want to take care of it. Don’t forget to water the flowers – there’s a super cute poem about that above the sink. The stars are amazing, the neighbors couldn’t be nicer, their recommendations for where to go are all spot on. Everything was so easy to find and seriously wicked cute! Don’t forget to sign the guestbook! The caterpillars will be gone soon, so beware of those. They even provided sheets specifically for our dog 😊. It might be a little tight if you have a large dog but was perfect for us. The yard is smaller than we thought, but The cell phone service is pretty bad, but if you go out by the picnic table/fire pit area you can usually get a text message to go through. Well built, beautiful, peaceful."

The 2 story house was renovated from a lake front cottage in the late 90's, and has recently been updated to provide you with a comfortable place to spend your vacation time. Listen to the Loon's call back and forth wile sitting on the porch enjoying your favorite book or beverage. Or kick off your shoes and enjoy what Unity Pond has to offer! Canoeing, Kayaking, Fishing and Swimming. Bring your boat along for Tubing and Water skiing! The boat launch is just a couple hundred yards down the road.
Kamp K will accommodate 6 people. Bedrooms on the second floor are set up with a queen in one room, and a larger bedroom with two queen beds and a twin. A small den on the first floor has a futon/bunk bed (twin over full).
The first floor bathroom has a fiberglass stall shower, and is where the washer and dryer are located. The second floor bath has a full size tub/shower.
The kitchen is complete with side by side fridge, electric range, microwave oven, and dishwasher (spend more time on the lake instead of washing dishes by hand).
You can still be in contact with the outside world with wireless internet access, and satellite TV on the 50" flat screen.
Once you've enjoyed a stay at Kamp K, you'll want to return every year!
- "This was our second time in this lovely house, and hopefully we’ll have the chance to stay here again. The home is very close to the water, there are kayaks and a canoe that can be used to explore the lake (hint: take a kayak under the train trestle NW of the house, and follow some of the waterways), and the hosts have provided everything you could need. There are two full bathrooms (one with a washer and dryer), two bedrooms (one with three beds), plus a bunk bed in the small downstairs office. This year we again saw adult and fledgling bald eagles, and spectacular sunrises from in front of the house. Unity is a small town, but there are stores that have everything you need for a week’s stay. Waterville is only about 20 minutes away, and Bangor about 40, if you want to do short trips to larger communities. We have vacationed in various places in Maine for the last 15 years, and this is easily one of our favorites."

There's a more private outdoor eating area, but the shared mini rock beach/dock out to the gorgeous lake can't be missed. Canoe usage is a major plus. Jeff and Robin were great hosts, offering up helpful local tips. A bit of a drive if you're doing the typical Maine coast touristy things, but nice drives if you don't mind."

The space is ideal for two to four people, but a full-size futon in the living room provides space for extra guests.
The downstairs is an open living room and kitchen space with a futon couch, chair, and dining table. The 44-inch TV has Hulu Live and additional apps for guests to log into. The upstairs has two small bedrooms and a full bathroom. The apartment is attached to a larger home occupied by long-term tenants. It has a private entrance and room for one car in the driveway. (Street parking is available for additional vehicles.)
- "Easy to do through Vrbo! Excellent visit!" - "We stayed in Belfast since it was on our way from Boston to Acadia National Park. It is a nice little harbor town with plenty of restaurants. This property was really cute the way it was decorated. The apartment had everything we needed. The only challenge was getting our suitcases to the bedrooms on the second floor. We would recommend it." - "Loved this accommodation. Very easy check-in, rustic and cozy furnishings. Owner very responsive to help us turn on heat- who knew late June would be so chilly. Close to downtown Belfast -walking distance within 15 minutes. Nice location in coastal Maine, located between Camden & Acadia Nat’l Park. Would definitely stay again when jn Maine!"

The Red House was a farmhouse for a working farm from the late 1800s until the mid-1900s. Miss Grace, the daughter of the founder of WR Grace- a specialty building supply company- bought the 100-acre point of land where the Red House now is. Miss Grace built a large summer house on the point and a red farmhouse at the beginning of the peninsula to supply her and those who worked for her with their food and flowers.
The Red House barn used to house the beef and milk cows, the sheep, and the hay and corn silage for the animals. The chicken coop was (and still is) behind the farmhouse. The vegetable garden was (and still is) in front of the farmhouse. The farm supplied Miss Grace, her house and garden “help” and the crew of her 100-foot yacht with fresh milk, butter, eggs, and vegetables daily and freshly-butchered chickens 2 or 3 times a week.
The Red House Barn was made into the beautiful apartment that it is now in 1984. It looks out over the field that used to pasture the animals to Seal Cove where Big Tree Beach and Boating offers any age sailing and navigation instruction and a wonderful beach for swimming.
Behind the Red House, there is a short walking trail to the shore which faces west- an ideal spot for picnics and sunset-watching.
This is an idyllic serene spot, a bird-watcher, and nature-lovers paradise. There are also opportunities to sail, hike, play tennis or pickleball, eat ice cream, and explore the island culture and beauties.
Sorry, no pets.
Keywords: Beautifully renovated rental barn, attached to owner 1880s farmhouse.
- "Excellent spot for our young family of four. We hit up the beaches, playgrounds, and local stores (often). We really lucked out with the weather and enjoyed the water access from the property both at low and high tide (tide dependent but not a concern of the kids). Our hosts were great and the kids enjoyed picking some fresh vegetables from the garden...and blueberries from one of the preserves (perfect for pancakes). Thanks! Aaron & Mary"

This 16' x 24' cabin sits on eleven acres of ocean frontage at 105 feet above sea level (one of the highest points on Islesboro), providing beautiful westerly views of Penobscot Bay, Northport and Belfast, including some of the most colorful sunsets witnessed by the human eye. The cabin contains a kitchenette, with a four-burner electric stove and oven, as well as an under counter refrigerator. There is a 3/4 bath which services two adults easily as well as a queen sized futon to sleep two inside the cabin. Another couple could set up a tent and camp if a group of four were interested in traveling/vacationing together. While there is no landline phone, there is good cell service for the more popular carriers as well as 1 GB of internet service with wifi.
But, you don't come here for the social perks. Folks come here, myself included, for the serenity, seclusion and the views...
- "We've stayed on Islesboro a number of times and are delighted to discover this property. George was responsive and well-organized. The cabin kitchen was much better equipped than I expected. If that remains the case, you can assume all the basic tools will be there. And the location was incredibly calm and private. You can't really see the water well, but the forest was quiet and relaxing, and we were at the beaches or hiking (or eating ice cream at the Dark Harbor Shop!) most of the time away. George told us that a new futon was on order, and that is the only thing that really needs an upgrade. I'm sure it will arrive soon. We brought a foam mattress topper, and that proved essential. Personally, I would recommend bringing one in any case, just because futons can be less forgiving--if you care about that. In short, a wonderful time was had by all!"
