The staff were friendly and happy to help, which we appreciated throughout our stay. That said, there were a few aspects that fell short of expectations, especially given the premium price. Fishing was a key reason we chose this lodge, as we were told before booking that the river was great for it. However, the rainy season made fishing almost impossible, and this wasn’t communicated to us beforehand. We spent several hours trying, including an early morning effort from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., but without success. While we understand that weather can be unpredictable, more accurate information about the conditions would have helped set realistic expectations. We didn’t have hot water in our room when we arrived. While another room was offered just for showering before guests arrived, we opted not to use it, as moving in the cold and knowing other guests would be arriving made it feel inconvenient. Additionally, the bathroom window lacked proper covering, leading to an uncomfortable incident. Finally, noise was a challenge. The wooden construction allows sound to travel easily, so we could hear other guests walking, talking, and showering, which disrupted the relaxing environment we had hoped for. While Spirit of the Lodge has a lot of potential, these issues detracted from our experience. "

Main street is 2 -3 minutes walking distance on an unpaved road, there you can take a mototaxi or go to the terminal (5-8 min walking distance) and find public or private transportation for touristic places. The main plaza is only 10-20 minutes walking distance. The house has 2 climbing walls, one inside the house and the other outside made of stones.

During our stay, Kuychi Rumi earned this highest rated due to the fantastic rooms, room service, and their prompt manager Johan. He went above and beyond his call of duty to make sure we felt at home. After all, how often do you get your refrigerator stocked the previous night just because you have to leave at 5 am the next morning? Most hotel staff wouldn't care. But Johan does :-) On our first morning, Johan took us on a 30-minute walk around the town and telling us so many things about the Peruvian rural life. In a country where finding English speaking people in rural areas is difficult, this proved to be a great introduction to the culture. As for the room itself, it is fabulous. Lovely gardens, butterflies, flowers blooming, a nice patio, and a fireplace in the room that Johan helps to start. Location is convenient, with a dollar and 10 minutes away from the main market.
