My friend slipped on the steps outside and was offered a plaster or a trip to hospital and the deck chairs provided were old and rotten. The water underneath the seating area was stagnant and these two half drunk bottles of milk were left on the reception table for two days. We requested laundry but the bag was given back unwashed with no explanation. It just seemed like no one was caring the place, it was just an easy earner. "

Hi I'm Alicia and welcome to my courtyard which I designed and constructed by myself over the course of two years. I'm an architect who is interested in finding values and cultures in the countryside. During the pandemic, I relocated myself to Chinese countryside and started to document a lot of abandoned traditional houses, as many locals demolish the hundreds-year-old houses to have new concrete houses. This is part of my research project, but also where I return to after working for a while in the cities. Inside the house, you will find a good selection of books, a cozy living space with Tibetan fireplace, a comfortable bathroom with floor heating and japanese TOTO toilet, a kitchen with all the cooking tools you need.... I opened all the spaces in the main house so each space is connected to one another, but could be divided with curtains.

You are 2 minutes to the morning fresh market where the local Bai minority have their morning(7-11am) and afternoon markets (3--6pm), 3 minutes from the lake Erhai, 5 minutes to Haishe park with stunning views of the lake, and 8 minutes ride to Xizhou town.

As it's my own house, please donnot expect everything to be like hotel services. But I am more than happy to get to know you personally as a friends. And the yard would have everything a home has.
