Staying in Mae Rim on the days we wanted to do the Mae Sa Waterfall, the elephant park and the Botanical Gardens (all in the Mae Rim area) was a great way to do it so that way we didn't have to keep going back and forth to Chiang Mai. We didn't have a car or a scooter so it was kind of a hassle, but we managed to make do either by walking or getting a tuk tuk or believe it or not, Uber. The beds in our villa were HARD AS ROCKS!! (I think #12, the 2 bedroom unit?) My husband and I slept horribly all 3 nights. I finally ended up on the couch. Some people like hard beds, so those of you who do will be fine. If not, good luck. - "My 2 friends and I booked this hotel on a last minute deal and saved over 70 percent. Although it was slightly far from the city center, it is actually later very close to many activities including ATV, gun shooting, monkey show, bumper cars, tiger kingdom among many more. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, even lending my friend and I their personal scooter for a few hours. The family villa which we stayed at was truly amazing, easily housing a large family. Ying, one of the owners of the resort was incredible nice and sweet. - "The location is absolutely stunning. I didn't know Thailand had any areas where the temperature was below 80 degrees F, or 27 degrees C. Lo and behold, this location gets down to 50 to 54 F, or 12 degrees C almost every night. When we were there it was rainy and chilly, but not cold. We ordered a BBQ for our tent/ room, along with enough food to cook for the next 5 to 6 hours right there in our balcony area. The BBQ not only cooked our food, but helped keep us warm as the temperature dropped throughout the night. As the fog rolled in that evening, the view was simply amazing as it went from clear to foggy and back to clear again. The service level is amazing and the staff is very friendly and is responsive to your needs. In the morning, there is a free breakfast with eggs, toast, fruit and juice to get your day started right. When we were there the weather didn't cooperate with our idea to go do some activities because it was rainy and overcast which led to us simply staying at our tent and patio and enjoying the view and each other's company. This ended up being the perfect thing to help us relax and get some long overdue rest and recovery. I wholeheartedly recommend Phu Marrin as a place to get back to nature and enjoy the natural beauty of Thailand's mountain ranges. Enjoy! "
