Would highly recommend but I would advise, fill up with fuel if driving in Kingscote as well as food as this place is 45 kilometres from there and this is the only place close for fuel and provisions. There are steps to th fabulous beach, and incredible sunsets to sit n the terrace and watch. We did have to clean out the jacuzzi though - but this once done was overlooking the beach and fabulous views."

- "If you love an amazing view then this is the place that you want to stay. You could spend hours just watching the changing view during the day. We had a wallaby and her joey feed around the cabin which was lovely. Easy walk to the beach to enjoy either the beautiful beach or to enjoy some fishing. The bed was comfy but the couches could do with an update. We were lucky enough to not have anyone else in the other cabin as there is not enough separation or privacy if there was someone else there. THE PROPERTY
Still Windy is situated on a 100 Ha bush block with large stands of remnant vegetation including sugar gum woodlands and yacca grasslands. White Tree Creek meanders through the middle of the property and provides a delightful guide to follow for bush walks or secluded picnics.
Native wildlife abounds on the property and it is common to see kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, wedge-tailed eagles and goannas.
The more dedicated nature lover may also see stone curlews, pygmy possums, boobook owls and glossy-black cockatoos. In Spring time there are abundant wildflowers and native orchids throughout the valley.
There are at least two nesting Glossy-black cockatoos on the property and we have an ongoing re-vegetation program designed to provide shelter and forage trees for these critically endangered birds.

At nearby Snelling Beach you may see dolphins, sea eagles, hooded plovers and the occasional fur seal.

DOG FRIENDLY CONDITIONS OF STAY
Dogs are very welcome at Still Windy, both outside and inside the house, and there are a few things for guests to note.
We charge an extra $25 per stay for guests bringing dogs.
The house and the property are not fenced in a way that will prevent dogs from running away or travelling onto other properties and our neighbours with chickens or livestock will not appreciate a visit from an unknown dog.
It is therefore the responsibility of the guest to ensure the safety and well being of their dog at all times and for the dog to always be under effective control.
Dogs must be left outside if guests leave the property without them and a shaded enclosure is provided which may be easily moved around to a suitable location.
Guests are welcome to walk their dogs anywhere within the property boundaries but need to be aware they may encounter snakes or large kangaroos. Kangaroo Island Council requires dogs to be on leads at all times when on the beach.
When inside the house dogs must remain at floor level at all times. Please bring dog bedding but note that bowls for food and water are supplied.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
The north coast is more sheltered than the south and provides ample opportunities for water-based activities like swimming, surfing, snorkelling, diving, beach-walking and fishing in the local marine parks. Still Windy is also the perfect base for exploring the iconic Flinders Chase National Park and the Seal Bay Conservation Park.

Bower by the Sea is a recently renovated vacation home in Penneshaw, near Penneshaw Beach. This beachfront property offers access to free Wifi and free private parking. Island Time is a lovely air-conditioned self-catering holiday house located at beautiful Vivonne Bay on the south coast of Kangaroo Island, two hundred metres from one of Australia's most stunning beaches. The decor is modern with a bright and airy ambience. There are two bedrooms at opposite ends of the house, each featuring queen beds.

The fully equipped kitchen includes an island bench, a Westinghouse stove with ceramic cooktop and an espresso machine with ground coffee supplied. Also Scanpan cookware & cutlery and a rice cooker.

The laundry is equipped with a new LG front-loading washing machine, laundry tub, ironing board and clothes airer. A clothesline is located at the rear of the house.

Free WiFi is included, taking advantage of broadband Internet available in Vivonne Bay. Foxtel satellite TV is provided along with a widescreen TV, Blu-ray player and a Bluetooth stereo system for playing your favourite music. Plus a selection of DVD movies and music CDs.

Our bedrooms are suitable for one or two couples or a family. An infant cot can be set up on request in advance of arrival and use of a trundle bed can be arranged.

The house is comfortable year-round with reverse cycle air-conditioning to the open-plan living area together with a pedestal fan. Dual control electric blankets are fitted to the beds for cosy winter nights along with MiniJumbuk wool quilts. Extra pillows and blankets are available.

Our sheltered deck catches the morning sun and is a great spot for coffee and alfresco meals. There is a 3-burner gas BBQ along with a new table setting and LED lighting. A fish-cleaning sink is attached to the end of the deck.

Wildlife abounds with Tammar wallabies being frequent visitors below the deck along with brushtail possums and occasional koalas. Numerous bird species flit about in the bush surrounds including honeyeaters and superb fairywrens. Bold little striated pardalotes are prevalent in Spring & Summer and occupy nests we have made above the deck. A birdbath in the rear garden is popular with honeyeaters and wrens.

Island Time is ideally located between Kangaroo Island's major attractions, with Raptor Domain and Seal Bay lying to the east, and Kelly Hill Caves, Admiral's Arch, Remarkable Rocks and Flinders Chase National Park to the west. KI Wildlife Park, Stokes Bay and Hidden Beach lie to the north.

Local activities include swimming, surfing, kayaking, fishing from the beach and jetty, sand-boarding, quad-bike riding and walks along the pristine beach to the Harriet and Eleanor Rivers.

Local facilities include the Vivonne Bay General Store, jetty & boat ramp. Mobile phone coverage is provided by Optus and Telstra, noting the Telstra signal is weak in Vivonne Bay.

Island Time is an easy ~70 minutes drive from the ferry terminal at Penneshaw and 40 minutes from Kingscote Airport.

Perched on the side of a hill this cosy contemporary beach house overlooks the trees and ocean of Emu Bay. The house is private on its 5acres but only 700m from the 4.5km long beach of Emu Bay.
The house is designed as a coastal retreat for its owners and has an intimate connection to its bush surroundings and nearby sea.
The location, the incredible views and the house provide for a perfect retreat, a holiday and a place for relaxation.
The living and outside areas are north facing with views of the sea and bush. One can experience this unique location from all rooms at any time of the day and throughout the seasons. The 4 m long daybed is perfect for reading a book, taking in the view or a nap.
The bedroom has a Queen-size bed with views over the trees to the ocean. It is equipped with a reverse cycle A/C.
The Kitchen and living area is a large open space with an adjoining deck. The stainless steel kitchen has a gas stove and electric oven, and all necessary utensils and cooking requirements.
For cooler days there is an open fire for heating the living area with firewood supplied.
A 4m long day bed at the end of the room looks out over the landscape to the water.
Emu Bay is a quiet coastal hamlet located on the northern side of KI. Its 4.5km long white sandy beach is accessible to vehicles and provides safe swimming. There is also a jetty and a boat ramp. Emu Bay has no shopping facilities.
Emu Bay to Kingscote is only 15 min along a bitumen road where you can find most facilities including supermarket, petrol station, post office, banks and tourist information.
The Sealink ferry arrives from Cape Jervis at Penneshaw. The distance from Penneshaw to Emu Bay is approximately 75km, all on bitumen.
Emu Bay is 15 min from the airport.

Kangaroo Island at its pristine best: private beach below the retreat (restricted access through private farmland – local landowners have access), spectacular views and walks, rare bird-watching, wallabies and kangaroos visiting the house in the evenings, modern, eco-friendly accommodation.
The owners, John and Hester, have walked all over the world and consider this among the beautiful places they know, which is why they bought it. ‘Postcards: A Few of Our Favourites’ had this to say:
'Many of us would like to find a holiday retreat on the edge of the world, far removed from the daily whirl...This idyllic spot can only be reached by private road through adjacent farmland, the idea that when you get here you'll be alone to enjoy stunning views of the rugged coastline, sea and sky. From the cliff-top you can see Cape Borda in the distance, the north-western tip of the island and Cape Torrens. Down below is De Mole Beach, where the De Mole River meets its end. None of that has changed although the retreat itself has been significantly upgraded. It offers:

- wallabies and kangaroos visiting in the evenings, goanna, echidna, brush-tailed possums...
A little over an hour from Kingscote airport, bordering on Cape Torrens Wilderness Reserve, it is on the far north western side of the Island towards Cape Borda. It is also a good base for visiting Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks in Flinders' Chase and Vivonne Bay.

In winter by the pot-bellied stove/fireplace watch the storms push in over Investigator Strait. On clear nights, isolated from city lights and overlooking the sea, you can enjoy excellent star-watching, either with binoculars or the old Russian 4.5 inch telescope provided. In summer, swim, fish, walk and enjoy the incomparable sunsets with the visiting wallabies.

(Please note: first, the De Mole river mouth is usually completely private, but not always – local landowners or their guests have access and occasionally drive past the retreat down the hillside, and there are neighbouring owners, even though they rarely come out there; second, the last 17 km of road is unsurfaced – whilst generally kept in good condition, it can be slippery after extended winter rains, even though none of our guests have ever had any difficulty in getting through even without a 4x4 (which, although not essential, we would recommend in winter); third, while there is a dishwasher, there is no washing machine or microwave given our reliance on solar power; fourth, during high electricity use and in cold, overcast conditions, you may have to manually operate a backup petrol generator – simple, illustrated instructions as to what buttons to press provided; fifth, in winter a mouse might occasionally find its way into the warmth – humane mousetrap provided; sixth, the sandy beach washes away in winter and sometimes only comes back later in summer; finally, this not the Ritz-Carlton – that is not the point of the place.)

Linen is provided for guests. This includes all sheet sets, pillowslips, bath & hand towels, bath mats,face washers & tea towels.

Nautilus is a 15 minute drive from the ferry port of Penneshaw, and approximately 30 minutes from Kingscote airport. The local area is a haven for wildlife, leisurely walks often result in sighting an echidna ambling along or wallabies feeding on the local grasses and hopping slowly off as you approach. The deck overlooks a small valley which is home to many native birds as well as the wallabies. Relaxing outside you will often see the blue wrens chasing insects or a vibrant robin in the trees.

The space
CATMANS HILLTOP CABIN (a converted, insulated shed) located on our sheep & marron farm! Located in Gosse, in the Western River area on KI, approx 90 mins drive from the Ferry in Penneshaw.

Experience camping with the convenience of power, water, kitchen supplies, refrigeration, beds, TV and a shower!

Stay in our hilltop Cabin (a converted shed), and enjoy our beautiful, remote, rural 250 acre property (a sheep & marron farm) located in the Western River area on Kangaroo Island, approx 90 mins drive from the ferry. The surroundings are five star, with distant sea views, however, the cabin is a basic bush cabin (converted shed) and self-serve - it's part of the charm! It may need a quick sweep out before use as sometimes it can get dusty. We don't provide cleaning, so we ask that you leave it as, or better, than you found it. There is a cupboard with basic kitchen essentials, help yourself, take some, leave some, etc. It's a pay it forward kinda thing!

The base rate is $90 for two people, and then extra guests are only $15 per night.

The cabin is a shed that has been fully insulated, and there is a combustion fire that once it gets going, is really toasty and warm.

There is a fridge/ freezer, a three burner gas stove with pots and pans, a toaster, kettle, microwave, rice cooker, sandwich maker and breadmaker.... for that beautiful fresh bread smell in the morning! You can also cook on the wood stove, for that authentic country touch!

There is a flatscreen digital TV with most channels and a UHF radio. In the shed, there are 240 power lights and also a 12 V system.

In terms of bedding, there are two bunk beds with a double on the bottom and singles on top. One can convert into a lounge. There are also two pull-out camp stretches that you can roll your swags out on. You will need to bring your own linen, blankets, pillows and towels.

There is a sink and running hot and cold water. At the rear of the cabin, there is an outdoor, laundry/ shower room with a washing machine and hot shower.

There is a fire pit outside that can be used when there is no fire ban, with barbecue plate and camp ovens for old-style bush cooking or cooking up your fresh organic Kangaroo Island Marron.

There is a drop toilet at the back and external lights and an external kitchen sink with hot and cold water.

Please be advised; the toilet and shower facilities are shared facilities and may be used by other guests camping on site.

Please keep this in mind and ensure this will suitable for your stay, when selecting this property and making your booking.

From the cabin, make your way down past the dams and go through the shiny gate at the bottom of the hill (please close the gate behind you). Here, you'll discover 125 acres of untouched Kangaroo Island wilderness with walking trails to explore. Keep an eye out for koalas, kangaroos, wedge-tail eagles, wallabies, large grass trees etc

We also have two small lakes that you can have a picnic by or drop some Marron nets in for a fresh feed. There are weighing scales provided at the shed so you can pay for them. This is on an honesty system- so please do the right thing, as we have already been burnt from the fires. You must contact me if you wish to fish for marron prior to catching any.

There is also a tinny (small boat) on the edge of the lake, with life jackets- please be advised you use this at your own risk.

Please feel free to jump in the lake for a refreshing swim!

Please remove all your rubbish. there are bins available on the corner of Colmans Rd & Snug Cove Rd.

There are no shops or food places close by- you need to bring supplies with you. You can bring supplies from the mainland, alternatively you can purchase supplies on KI, in the following locations:
Penneshaw (where the ferry is) - IGA
Kingscote- the main town - Foodland
American River- small fishing area- limited supplies
Parndarna- a small town on the way to the Western River area- limited supplies

The self-contained unit is only a 3 minute relaxing stroll through the sleepy town to the peaceful beach in Brownlow, and a 5 minute drive to the main township of Kingscote where you will find lovely locally-owned shops and cafes and supermarket.

The space
Fully self contained unit, 1 bedroom, a separate bathroom with a newly-renovated shower, and a fully equipped older style kitchen for all your cooking needs. The lounge area provides a perfect place to relax on the sofa in front of the TV and recharge your batteries. There’s an enclosed backyard space which can only be accessed from the car park (not from the unit unfortunately) this space can be used to park your jet ski, boat, or for extra car parking. The entrance at the front of the unit has a private veranda area where you can relax with a cuppa and take in the sweet sound of the birds, and you might even be lucky enough hear or see a koala (during the day) wallaby or Kangaroo after dark. 🦘

The space
The shacks have everything you need for your KI adventure.
Full kitchen facilities, including new plates and cutlery, pots and pans, hotplates and microwave. There is no oven.

All of the shacks have a verandah and seating with a table.
The grounds are natural coastal bush and get lots of wallabies visit, also lots of native birds... We even have an occasional koala and gonna make an appearance.

The Island Beach Shacks are possibly the cheapest accommodation on the Island and represent excellent value for money
