- "Our family of four had a great time in Coja. The house has a good layout, plenty of space including two outside terraces overlooking the river. Everything was clean, working and full of character which for us is the most important aspect. Just a few minutes from a lovely river beach with cafes. The town is also nearby, no need to drive, everything extremely pleasant. The neighbours were very nice and welcoming too. There is a road behind the house, but traffic noise not a problem as it is not busy. This is not a 5 star residence but it is homely, cheerful, comfortable, clean and relaxing and we felt it was very good value. The river beach is one of the best in the area although the house is also a good base to explore further afield. We had a marvellous holiday. "

This quaint, 2 bedroom cottage is approx. 2 kms from the centre of Arganil, situated in the apple orchards of the village of Alagoa. The house has 2 bedrooms both with views across the fields. The main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has two single beds, there is a separate shower room. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas cooker, fridge, microwave etc there is also a diningtableandchairs. The living area is in the old cellar and retains the stone walls with a large fireplace with a complimentary basket of logs in the winter, more logs can be bought if necessary. There is Portuguese satellite TV with some foreign channels. Outside the private garden has outside dining furniture and 2 sun loungers with views across the fields to the mountains. The house as a whole is really large with plenty of space to spread out. The kitchen is large and well equipped. There are 2 bathrooms, one upstairs and one down and one of them even has a bath! There were lots of personal touches around the house too which make it feel like a true home-from-home. Things like food basics in the cupboards was also very welcoming. The house is clean and tidy and everything is beautifully presented. Within walking distance is a lovely restaurant and river-side bar and over the bridge there are plenty of shops and small supermarkets. There is a market here too (details are in the house notes from Jane.) The small square in Coja is a lovely place to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and a coffee or a glass of Portuguese wine. My partner and I stayed here around 3 weeks in November and the weather was surprisingly mild during the days when the sun was out. To keep warm in the evenings we had plenty of logs provided for the woodburner upstairs. I thoroughly recommend the place and hope to return one day. Thanks Jane for everything."

For those of you who have stayed at Casa de Xisto and those who are thinking of staying there I would like to let you know that after the terrible fires in our area the house remains undamaged! The land below the garden was burnt down to the bottom of the valley but there are already seeds growing through the ashes and we are beginning our replanting project with fruit trees, vines and olives. Please do not give up on the house as more than ever we need people to come and visit the area and bring with them some trade to the area. The calendar has been blocked untill the beginning of December but for anyone interested in staying there please get in touch.
