Spalding is central to the wine region of Clare, the historic Copper mining town of Burra, the Jamestown forest & Crystal Brook - well known for its Bakery. Country bakehouse Accommodation provides a perfect venue for day trips to towns in the lower Flinders Ranges and a central base for walkers and bike riding enthusiasts on the Mawson and Heysen trails which meet at Spalding. Uniquely situated between 4 rivers & the Bundaleer Reservoir, your minimum 2 night stay includes a "catch & release" free Permit for Trout fishing on the Broughton River.

Continental Breakfast provisions are included in the tariff and a well- equipped, country kitchen and gas BBQ are provided for your convenience.

Couples, families, walking groups and bike riders are welcome.

The Country bakehouse is an ideal place for romantic couples to share a weekend, families to stay for short breaks & holidays or trail walkers to spend a comfortable night after a brisk walk on the Heysen & Mawson Trails. We provide a "home away from home" with lots of interesting reading materials, family board games, DVD's and a large digital screen with satellite TV.

Attached to the residence, in the old bakehouse is an extra teen retreat room. This room is ideal for extra family members with a queen and two single beds provided.

Why not take a weekend break, go fishing or photograph the scenic Broughton River, visit wineries or coffee shops in the Clare Valley or explore dugouts and underground tunnels at the historic mining town of Burra.

Travel North through Jamestown to visit the Railway Museum at Peterborough or South to the Historic town of Mintaro to lose yourself in the Maze or make a visit to Martindale Hall. Because we are central to so many Historic towns we are able to provide a comfortable retreat at the end of a day exploring the Mid North of SA.

Fishing & Small Town Experience

The Country bakehouse is situated in the small town of Spalding,178km north of Adelaide and on the fringe of the Clare Valley. The Heysen & Mawson trails meet at Spalding and we have excellent sporting facilities including a Summer swimming pool, oval, tennis courts, parks and playground. There are historic Churches a Post Office and Primary School. The General store Cafe is open 7 days for take-a-way food & great coffee, & meals are available Thursday- Sunday at the Spalding Hotel.

The Fresh Water river flows through Spalding to join the Broughton downstream. Visitors can enjoy the river scenery and your accommodation includes a "catch & release" permit for trout fishing enthusiasts. You may not catch a trout or a cod but you could enjoy a day out along the river exploring the pools & why not take a picnic on a Spring day.
The Bundaleer Reservoir was opened in 2016 for Recreational fishing.

From the Family/TV room, you can see the Flinders Ranges one side, and the Largest Lithium Battery in the world, from the other side.

Callum - Brae is an old Country Homestead situated amongst native shrubs and trees just a few hundred meters from Booleroo Creek. The home is private and secluded, ideal for a relaxing and quiet stay 3 hours drive north of Adelaide. With 4 bedroooms, ideal for a "Mates Getaway" or a "Girls Weekend" or maybe 2 families who enjoy to relax together. Couples will be spoiled with the big old homestead all to themselves. The property has lots of old barns and treasures from years past, ideal for photography, drawing or just a walk in natural bushland. For the cooler nights and mornings the firepit to the front of the house has lots of room for everyone to gather around for warmth. There's also an outside burner and grill plate with plenty of fallen wood for the fire. The back yard is an ideal space for a hit of cricket, with table, chairs, gas barbeque and stunning views of Mt Robert. Alex's house is located in the South Australian town of Laura in the southern Flinders Ranges.
Built in the early 1900's, this gracious comfortable house has a relaxed feel with generous rooms, high ceilings and modern amenities.

Pets are welcome and the backyard is secure for dogs to wander and explore within it.

The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances.
The rooms comprise four poster and contemporary bedding set out
neatly with the same elegance as the house itself.

The house itself was fantastic, spacious, and had beautiful features and furniture that just made it really special. On the other hand, we were put off by the fact that we did not have the full privacy we expected with another house at the rear of the property and what appeared to be a shared driveway. We were hoping to be able to enjoy the large garden the listing boasts by doing yoga and meditations but felt we would be watched. The kitchen was beautiful however dishes, microwave, pots pans and cutlery were dirty, along with other peoples food left behind in the freezer. Some of the pots need to be replaced with severely damaged teflon. There was a foul stagnation smell coming from the main bathroom drains. The 4 bedrooms the property lists we could only find two, just lucky we didn’t have more people with us I guess?? Just about every nook and cranny was covered in cobwebs, spiderwebs, and active spiders. The front garden was also over grown with made it hard for us to use the Ushaped driveway at the front of the property without the car getting scratched. I don’t feel it was worth what we paid. We were let down and that’s really unfortunate especially considering the reason why we were there in the first place."

Getting Around:
By car:

- From Adelaide, it takes 2.5 hours and is a distance of 194 kilometers. The nearest towns are Jamestown, which is a 25-minute drive (37 kilometers), and Burra, also a 25-minute drive (35 kilometers).
- A 2WD vehicle is suitable for the trip.

By public transport:

- You can take the Mid-North Passenger Coach from Adelaide to Hallett. Check their website for times and tickets.
- Hallett is located directly between the towns of Burra and Jamestown, each approximately a 30-minute drive in either direction on the highway.
- No additional public transport options are available.

By flight:

- The nearest airport is Adelaide Airport. From there, you can drive 2.5 hours (194 kilometers) to reach Hallett. Alternatively, take the Mid-North Passenger Coach from Adelaide to Hallett.

Other Things to Note:
- Gas BBQ Grill is available
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- No smoking allowed inside the tiny home; only in designated areas.
- Make sure to turn off the lights, AC, electronics, close windows and doors when leaving.
- Mobile reception has good signals for Telstra and Optus; and weak signals for other networks.
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge

Important note:

- BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban.
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
