- "Just back from staying at High Wards and our group of 18 had a fantastic weekend. I planned a surprise party and people who work abroad flew over just for the weekend and said it was completely worth it! There's so many activities to do both outside and inside the house if the weather isn't so good. The swimming pool is a great size and all of us were comfortably able to fit into it at the same time. Emily the owner is very accommodating and is on hand for anything you need. The views from the house are also incredible. Whether you're planning a birthday, family getaway, hen party or wedding - the house is suitable for any occasion! "

- "Great location approximately 1.5 miles from Balloch, we went in via the country park, caught the train into Glasgow which ran every 30 minutes and cost us £6.10 adult return. Balloch was an excellent base for exploring, we went to Stirling and Oban both worth a visit. We also took a boat trip on the Loch. We spent a good few hours around the shoos of Balloch." - "we spent a lovely week in Blairhosh cottage visiting many of the nearby attractions and found Blairhosh had all the facilities we needed."

- "My husband, daughter, son-in-law and I stayed for a week with our five month old grand-daughter to introduce her to her many cousins living nearby. From the moment we arrived the sun shine and continued all week until we left. We could have stayed with relatives but with a small baby and numerous bits of equipment in tow, felt it best to have a bit of space. The apartment was exactly what we were looking for - clean and well furnished and in an ideal location . Sunday lunch at the Cruin sealed it - our daughter and son-in-law had their wedding reception there three years ago so this was our obvious choice. This is an ideal setting, beautiful peaceful scenery with wonderful walks all around. I would recommend this to anyone."

Summary:
Set in the stunning village of Luss, this beautifully renovated historic Mill offers a luxury escape beside Loch Lomond. Perfect for relaxing getaways, group celebrations, or outdoor adventures, it comfortably hosts 10 guests. Ideal for those visiting Cameron House or Loch Lomond Golf Club, it's the perfect base to unwind and reconnect in one of Scotland’s most scenic locations.
The Space:
Tucked just off the gateway road to the Trossachs and Scotland’s stunning West Coast, The Old Mill offers more than just a luxury stay—it’s an experience. This unique conversion was thoughtfully designed to give guests the feeling of a true escape. Whether it’s the peaceful sound of the stream flowing past the garden, birdsong from the surrounding trees, or a bracing cold plunge in the stream itself, every detail is here to help you unwind.
For the active guest, there’s a gym on-site so your daily routine needn’t be interrupted. And when you’re ready to relax, a sauna and hot tub await to soothe your muscles after a day’s adventure. The scenic woodland walk from the cottage to the top of Creachan Hill offers a breathtaking view over Loch Lomond—captured in our drone photo—and the rewarding descent is made all the sweeter knowing what’s waiting at the bottom.
Steeped in history, The Old Mill was once part of the Rossdhu Estate, originally used to store timber for Rossdhu House, now the prestigious Loch Lomond Golf Club. It later served the community in different roles, including as a garage for classic cars, before being lovingly restored into the home you see today.
We hope your time here leaves you feeling recharged and connected to the beauty and heritage of this very special part of Scotland.
Guest Access:
Guests will have full access to the entire property throughout their stay, including all rooms and amenities. Check-in details, including access instructions and key collection, will be shared in advance via our electronic guidebook link to ensure a smooth arrival.
The Neighborhood:
Luss is a postcard-perfect village set on the western shores of Loch Lomond, offering visitors a tranquil escape steeped in natural beauty and historic charm. Designated as a Conservation Area, the village is known for its beautifully preserved 18th- and 19th-century cottages, cobbled streets, and the picturesque Luss Parish Church, which dates back to the early 1870s.
Its stunning lochside setting makes Luss an ideal base for water-based activities, including kayaking, paddleboarding, boating, and fishing. The beach area is popular for picnics and leisurely strolls, while boat trips departing from the pier offer a unique perspective of Loch Lomond’s many islands.
Luss is also a walker’s paradise, with scenic trails that suit all levels—from flat lochside walks to more demanding routes such as Beinn Dubh, which rewards hikers with breathtaking views of the loch and surrounding mountains.
Despite its peaceful atmosphere, Luss is well-equipped for visitors, with charming tea rooms, gift shops, a visitor centre, and local eateries serving Scottish fare. The village’s balance of natural beauty, outdoor activities, and traditional Scottish character makes it a must-visit destination in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
Getting Around:
The Old Mill is nestled in a peaceful rural setting, making it the perfect escape into nature—but due to its countryside location, public transport is limited. We strongly recommend guests travel by car to get the most out of their visit and explore the surrounding area with ease.
The nearest train station is located in Balloch, which offers regular services from Glasgow Queen Street. From Balloch, it’s just a short taxi ride to reach the property.
For those driving, The Old Mill is conveniently located just off the A82, one of Scotland’s most scenic routes. This road runs along the western edge of Loch Lomond, passing through Inverbeg and up to Tarbet, where it splits towards Oban, Fort William, and the West Highlands. The journey offers breathtaking roadside views of lochs, forests, and mountains—some of the finest in the UK.
For a unique and luxurious way to explore, we can help arrange discounted private boat hire on Loch Lomond. This is a fantastic way to discover the loch’s many islands and attractions, including Ben Lomond, Inchcailloch, and Luss.
Whether you're road tripping through the Highlands or simply soaking up the lochside serenity, The Old Mill is an ideal base for adventure and relaxation alike.
Other Things to Note:
We can arrange the rental of a high chair and travel cot upon request during your stay.
Please note, check-in is not available on 25th December and 1st January.
For insurance reasons, the lead guest must be over 25 years old, and ID verification is required for all bookings.
We’re committed to making your stay accessible and comfortable. If you need any special assistance or accommodations, please don’t hesitate to ask—we’re happy to help!

- "Lovely stay, great location and friendly owners, house was decorated with lovely paintings. Weather made it tricky to get there in the snow, and then the thaw kept driving difficult; but it was still accessible in a normal car. Had a lovely quiet Hogmanay in a cosy house in a location which was great for dog walks."

What better place to watch the theatre of the Highlands unfold than from Cameron House.
Cameron House is set in the heart of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, one of the most scenic areas in Scotland – and the perfect location to enjoy superb walking, historical towns and villages and amazing local cuisine.
The Trossachs range of hills are known as ‘the Scottish Highlands in miniature’ and mark the boundary between the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland.
Steeped in Scottish history, legend and myth, the area is as popular a destination today as it was over 100 years ago when Queen Victoria, Sir Walter Scott, John Ruskin and John Everett Millais came to the area.
Opened in 2002 as Scotland’s first National Park, it comprises 720 square miles of beautiful mountains, glens and lochs including 21 Munros, 19 Corbetts and 22 large lochs.
The Park falls into four distinct parts: Loch Lomond, The Trossachs, Breadalbane and Argyll Forest.
Loch Lomond, the home of Cameron House, is the largest freshwater expanse in mainland Britain. Mountains loom to the north, while a scattering of islands can be found at the south end of the loch. Pretty villages such as Luss line the loch’s western shores.
The Trossachs is ‘Rob Roy Country’ where the famous outlaw hid from his pursuers in the dense forests. The area was much loved by Scottish writer and poet Sir Walter Scott whose famous poem The Lady of the Lake was inspired by Loch Katrine, which you can cruise on the steamship SS Sir Walter Scott.
Breadalbane marks the beginning of the Scottish Highlands at the northern tip of the National Park. Here myths and legends abound and the enchanting Falls of Dochart run through the picturesque village of Killin.
At the western edge of the National Park is the Argyll Forest Park. Britain’s first forest park is typified by its ancient trees, tranquil lochs and wide range of wildlife. Also within the park is Ben Arthur, affectionately known as ‘the Cobbler’ and one of Scotland’s most popular climbs.
The mountains and forests of the national park offer the perfect habitat to a diverse range of wildlife. Breeding pairs of ospreys take up residence in the park to mate each spring. Spending the summer months in Scotland, they can often be spotted hunting over Loch Venachar, Loch Lomond, Loch Eck and Lake of Menteith.
Of all the National Park’s birdlife, none is more visually or vocally stunning as the rare Capercaillie, the world’s largest grouse species. Their last remaining breeding ground are pinewoods on Loch Lomond’s islands.
Forests also provide shelter to the red squirrel, Britain’s only native squirrel. The National Park is one of the few places left where you can spot them as they scurry between branches.
On the woodland floor below, expect to see herds of male or female deer as they graze on grass, berries, young shoots and tree bark. Living separately for most of the year, in autumn, catch the spectacle of the ‘rut’ when the males aggressively lock antlers to win the right to mate.
Away from the National Park, the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow and the cultural centre of Stirling are just a short journey away offering a range of activities from art galleries to zoos – and so much more in between.
Guests are spoilt for choice when they stay at Cameron House. There’s something from the wide range of activities to suit anyone. Here are some of the most popular activities:
Golf – The Wee Demon is a popular 9-hole golf course on the resort and certainly provides fun for all standards of players. The Carrick golf course is the jewel in the crown, situated just two miles away and accessible via regular, free shuttle service. Designed by the acclaimed golf course designer Doug Carrick is a 71-par course and a true marvel. The stunning golf course uses every inch of the dramatic landscape straddling the fault lines between the Scottish lowlands and highlands with 9 holes set in each half.
At The Carrick resort you may also enjoy the following:
Driving range

Fishing - Loch Lomond is the biggest fresh water loch in the U.K and with such pristine waters comes some great fishing opportunities.
Cameron House is located in the southern corner of the loch, right beside the mouth of the River Leven. This is a great spot for any angler to cast a reel and try their hand at catching some of the best fish in Scotland.
With a wide variety of native fish in the loch, you’ll easily find a brown trout, eel or pike while expert anglers love trying to get their hands on some Atlantic salmon, Eurasian perch and roach.
In order to fish in the loch you’ll need to have a permit; most of those you’ll see about the loch are card-carrying members.
A day permit to fish down in the River Leven is £20 but for those who like to take it easy on the loch it’s only £15 to receive a daily permit for coarse fishing. These can be purchased from tackle shops all over the area when you’re getting some bait.
You can fish for anything in the loch Monday-Saturday (coarse fishing is allowed on Sundays). You’re bound to get a good catch anytime of year but the best season in the Loch is between February and October.
Dining and drinks - There is a choice of four fantastic restaurants available, including:
The Cameron Grill: contemporary Scottish dining at its finest;
Martin Wishart: Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant;
The Boathouse: laid back, elegant and family-friendly dining; and
The Claret Jug: relax with quality food and drink after your round at The Carrick – Claret Jug Menu
There’s also the cosy Great Scot’s Bar, with its walls lined with great Scot’s of past and present – CH Great-Scots-Bar-Menu
Whichever you choose, you’re sure to enjoy stunningly smooth single malts, local produce with the freshest, locally sourced ingredients and an uncompromising selection of whiskies and wines to accompany your chosen meal.
Join a Ceilidh in the Claret Jug! A relaxed evening for all the family.
