- "Matt is a breath of fresh air. He is charming, responsive, helpful, knows the area, & he & his wife have done an amazing job with this old but beautifully updated property. THE HOUSE: Cozy w/room for 7 plus seating for guests. Bedrooms are COMFORTABLE. The bathrooms were great, very functional, with enough towels for everyone. INDOOR FUN: TVs where you needed them with a Blu-Ray player & plenty of movies, Matt & his wife have great taste in movies in my humble opinion. Games for the family, a small selection but good. An eclectic book collection, kids enjoyed Garfield while we all enjoyed The Far Side. OUTDOOR FUN:A caveat – this is a river so there’s green stuff on the edge. It won’t hurt you. We loved the kayaks. The dock ladder was loose when we were there, but it is probably already fixed– without that ladder, it’s hard to get out of the water. We jumped off the end of the docks, but not too far (fast boats). We chose to go to Peterson Park Beach for the inflatables (bring cash) HOT TUB: Very pleasant. If you leave the cover off when it’s cool outside, the hot tub will get cool. When you’re not in the water, put the cover back on. Nicely lighted so as to not wreck your night vision. RESPONSIVENESS: We asked about a DVD/Blu-Ray player night before we arrived. It & movies were there. We asked how to rent boats, we had a list & he bought the two kayaks. When we had a concern or question, he responded, even came during our second day to fix stuff. Great place to stay & play!"

The space
Step foot into this 1960’s remodeled getaway and you will find yourself in your very own version of home away from home- vacation style. This was created to preserve some of the nostalgic 1960’s feels, while infusing some modern vibes.

First you will drive through Downtown McHenry, taking in all the shopping and dining views leading to your neighborhood getaway. Upon arrival at The Ace on the River you will be greeted by the large driveway. Once you're inside and unpacked, play some games, watch a movie, or simply relax.

After enjoying the outdoor atmosphere on the large deck or out on the docks, step back inside and craft a delicious dinner in the fully equipped kitchen. The large table with 12 chairs is the perfect spot for you and your group to both to relax, truly enjoy each other's company, and make ever-lasting memories.

The Ace on the River is exclusively yours (no shared spaces or amenities). Please make yourself at home! The only spaces inaccessible are the garage, one interior closet upstairs and a basement storage area.

Other things to note
• SECURITY SYSTEMS•
We have 24/7 audio and video recording surveillance cameras located on the EXTERIOR of the home facing the driveway, street, and docks. These are for insurance, safety and security of the property and viewed only when necessary. There’s also a video/audio doorbell for the same purpose. There’s a professionally monitored security system unit in the home as well. You will be given a code to use during your stay should you wish to turn the alarm on/off.

• SANITIZATION •
The getaway is professionally and properly sanitized and deep cleaned before your stay. This not only includes the inside but also the outdoor furniture. We want you to relax and have a peace of mind when enjoying the amenities.

• PETS ALLOWED •
Our home is able to accommodate one dog under 50 pounds with a paid fee. Although deeply cleaned, we cannot guarantee pet dander isn’t present for those with allergies. Approved dogs are NOT allowed on furniture and must be crated when left alone. A refundable security deposit will be collected through our property management software.

• NO SMOKING •
Please refrain from smoking in the home or nearby the home! Any smoking evidence will result in odor removal and additional cleaning fees.

• INSECTS •
While we do what we can to make the interior bug-free, being near the water often brings wildlife/insects nearby or inside.

• AIR CONDITIONING •
This home is equipped with wall/window air conditioning units. Each upstairs bedroom has its own window air conditioner to allow you to set the room to your level of comfort. The main level of the home has a wall air conditioning unit in the family room. Every bedroom is provided a fan as well. The main level bedroom has a portable air conditioning unit.

• RENTAL AGREEMENT & IDENTIFICATION •
Within 48 hours of an accepted booking request, our Property Management Software system will send the primary booking guest a Rental Agreement to sign. This must be signed and an ID (state or drivers license) must be sent via the platform (for security purposes) in order for access to the property to be granted. ALL adult guests must submit a legal ID (through the platform). A refundable (if no damages seen post-stay) security deposit (minus fee w/Stripe or no fee with direct payment) will also be collected through this system. If the signed agreement and identification are not received within 48 hours your booking is subject to cancellation.

- "House was super clean, all new appliances. Great location.. walking distance to several stores, safe neighborhood! Jessica was very great to communicate with and was very fast to respond to messages. We had 14 guests and everyone had somewhere to sleep comfortably! OH, AND THE BEDS WERE SO COMFORTABLE! We will definitely rent again!" - "To start, our host was fantastic and the house was great! We were gathering here for Thanksgiving holiday with family from around the country as well as a few locals. The host was wonderful. They asked if we needed any special items so we could host the holiday. We were bringing what we needed but she still supplied foil trays, storage containers for leftovers, a meat thermometer, etc and for a bonus had 2 cakes and a case of water in the frig when we got there. The house layout for all of us was perfect. The kitchen was big enough to cook a large meal, the table seats 12, the basement was awsome with the home theater and the video games and toys for the kids and the sleeping arrangements were great. Due to the time of year, we didn't get to enjoy the deck and water access but it would have been well used if it was warmer. The house is close to the main road so there is some truck noise but it is also conveniently located by town with easy walking access to downtown shops and stores. Just a quick note, pay attention to the rules for the house and work with host for any modifications needed. The host was very accomodating!"

Please note: the current rate is for 10 or less people. For an additional fee, there is sleeping for a total of 21 people and includes the guest cottage.

Moving to the northern part of the main floor, you'll discover three more bedrooms and a private, lock-off apartment with its own entrance. Bedrooms 3 & 5 each offer a queen Murphy bed and a loft with an additional queen bed. Bedroom 4 features a queen Murphy bed and a loft with a twin bed. Each bedroom provides direct access to the back deck through sliding glass doors.

This property can comfortably sleep up to 27 guests but can only accommodate a maximum of 8 cars.

For groups larger than 10 guests: there is a $25/guest/night (or day) charge that will be added after booking.

The space
As the second home built on the lake and a former Miller family estate, this 100+ year old property exudes historic charm while also enjoying modern amenities. You will appreciate many unique historic features such as leaded and stained glass windows, antique Crystal chandeliers, custom woodwork and built-ins, ornate Orlandini plaster medallions and even an antique pull-chain toilet.

The home is designed for entertaining with two spacious living rooms each with gas fireplaces, a large sunroom with game tables and a bar, and a formal dining room with a dining table for 14 - all with gorgeous lake views.
