- "We stayed for only one night but we were happy with the hotel. Check-in process was quick; front desk staff was super friendly. We booked a room for four which had stairs. There was a portable heater at the lower floor which worked great and managed to warm up both floors considerably. The bathroom was a little small, but not a big inconvenience for a 1-night stay. The walls are a little thin and you can hear the next room, so if you are an early or light sleeper, might be good to put on some ear plugs! Pity we did not have time to try out the hot tubs in the courtyard; they looked fun."

My children loved that the Wifi still works in the public carpark at the bottom of Ngauruhoe Terrace. Breakfast buffet is $25 and feels expensive for what’s on offer. Not sure if it was the weather or poor lighting in the restaurant but somehow it affected the palatability of the food. For dinner it was a hit for my my husband and myself (we ordered the salmon and vegan lasagna), but a miss for my two children (they ordered the pasta of the day and the fish and chips). Pasta was too creamy and the fish batter was not that crispy. The clouds parted on our last day and Mount Ngauruhoe showed itself. We love that we have a good view of it from the deck. Overall it was a good stay. This accommodation is positioned well for exploring the national park. "

Built as a prototype house with a double wall cavity, it's level of insulation is twice the industry standard. It is fitted with thermal blinds, natural flooring (cork, bamboo, linoleum and wool carpets), recycled wooden benches and dining table. The kitchen and bathroom cabinetry is made locally and with beautiful birch plywood. The macrocarpa seating on the large sunny deck was milled just down the road and the outdoor baths will amaze!

- "Our family of 4 had a great mini getaway to The Mountain Greenie. The house was very clean -probably one of the cleanest we've stayed in. It had all the things we needed in a well equipped kitchen especially coffee making things like plunger and a mocka pot which we like to have. The house was very warm and comfortable as stated and kept the heat in all night even when it was -4 outside. The kids really enjoyed the games room in the garage and the ample lawn to kick the soccer ball around on. We all loved the outdoor baths. We chose this place for its quiet location which it was. It is near the railway tracks which was a novelty for us but be aware the train comes through 3-4 times during the week night if that sort of thing bothers you. The view to the mountain from the lounge, deck and main bedroom is very cool."

The living and dining areas are wide open and spacious in the Ti Kouka House. Two sofas face one another and create a comfy spot for lounging. There’s also a wood-burning fireplace that’s oh-so-cozy in the colder months.

Sliding glass doors open wide to the sun-drenched deck. Outside on the deck is a large dining table. When it’s warm, this is a great place to sip your morning coffee and read the paper. Or host an alfresco dinner underneath the stars. There’s a soothing hot tub out here too — great for soaking sore muscles after a long day on the trails.

In the kitchen, bold red accents add style to the efficient space. Stainless steel appliances include a range, vent hood, dishwasher, and refrigerator. There’s also a Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, and toaster. Nearby, the laundry room is equipped with a washer, and a heated drying cupboard.

The master suite features a king-size bed and a flat screen Smart TV. The ensuite master bathroom has a step-in shower and white marble vanity.

Ti Kouka House is the perfect home base for your next trip to Ohakune. Whether you’re coming for the skiing or the sunshine— or maybe a little bit of both— you’ll be in the perfect spot to soak it all in. The Powderkeg Restaurant & Bar - a 10min walk from our Ti Kouka House, the Powderkeg is a central gathering place great for drinks and food from breakfast to sunset dinners.
'Osteria'-a nice selection of Italian style dining. Located in the main part of town, 20-30 mins walk.

An authentic European style hideaway, The Bavarian Chalet is made from local New Zealand timber and furnished with locally sourced furniture and amenities wherever possible. You can spend summer evenings creating alfresco culinary masterpieces before sinking into the hot tub as the mountain air cools with the night. Or, spend the winter days toasting marshmallows over the open fire or sharing a hot meal with good friends recalling the day’s events.

Practicalities
Babes-in-arms and children are very welcome, one portacot and one highchair are available, please bring your own portacot linen. Please note the top single bunk beds are for children only.
There is parking for three cars, plus generous free on-road parking if needed. The kitchen is well stocked with essential equipment including a slow cooker and fondue set and has a large electric oven, five-ring gas hob, dishwasher, fridge, and microwave. For your greatest indulgences, the property also has a wine fridge, coffee grinder, espresso machine, and capsule coffee machine for your use. There are flat-screen TVs on the mezzanine, free WiFi internet, fire pit, and a pizza oven in the open-fire season. Linen is provided including luxury bath towels. Pool towels are provided for the heated spa pool. There is a washing machine, dryer, and ski boot dryer in the utility room at the entrance to the house. Outdoor furniture is in place around the firepit and portable Aidonrack chairs can be used on the balcony or lower verandah.
Your stay includes:
Luxury welcome hamper with a selection of produce and a bottle of wine. Locally roasted coffee beans are supplied along with a selection of Nespresso pods and Luxury Dilmah tea sachets. Indoors there is a large open wood fireplace, with logs and kindling to get you started. A selection of condiments are provided including UHT milk and chilled water to help relax you into holiday mode.
