The cottage is part of the Johnstone-Rutherford House complex built by the renowned builder Cam Davis, known for his historic homes here in Newberry and his work at the Biltmore Mansion in Asheville, NC. The cottage has been updated providing historic charm (it roughly 100 years old) with a touch of modern conveniences.

Enjoy a large bedroom with a king size bed and a spacious living room for relaxing between activities in historic Newberry and Newberry College. The cottage also provides a full kitchen and washer/dryer for your convenience.

Tv and internet are provided in both main rooms. The kitchen has a full array of cooking elements for your use.

Both rooms in the cottage have individual air conditioning (not window units, but wall units close to the ceiling, European ductless style). Additionally, each room has a natural gas wall unit should you need heat. Set these to suit your comfort level. The bathroom provides a pace heater as well.

There is an electric blanket (winter only) for the king size bed should you choose to use it.

Hiding under the carpet were old wood floors as you would expect. We love them. And under the ceiling tile, old wood ceilings.

Please be aware that the ‘crib’ is actually a pack-n-play and is typically available and in the bedroom closet. However, if you need it please make us aware so that we can make sure the unit is in the cottage.

Guest have the entire cottage to themselves. The cottage is surrounded by a white picket fence and sits directly across the Newberry College Teaching/Education facility.
Other things to note
Don and Laura live in the Johnstone-Rutherford home adjacent to the cottage. This home is being restored to its original beauty. It will soon be a painted lady! Perhaps the first full painted lady in Newberry.

Located 8 miles off of I-26, only 20 minutes from historic downtown Newberry and a short five-minute drive to Brazzleman’s landing, where you can fish on the Enoree River. Sitting on a one-acre lot that backs up to the Sumter National Forest, this setting is perfect for a relaxing vacation, weekend getaway, or hunting trip in Newberry or Fairfield county. Fully furnished, the den and kitchen area is open-concept and reminiscent of the one-room log cabins built in the mid-nineteenth century. All bedrooms have carpet, the remainder of the cabin is complete with unique hardwood floors reclaimed from an old school gymnasium. The back porch is 38x10 so plenty of room to relax outside. This home sits off hwy 176 in Newberry county, close to I26 and 7 mi from downtown. We offer a very comfortable, and very clean home fully stocked to cook a meal, grill a steak or roast a hot dog. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the cozy front porch. Take a nice country ride down 176 to Irmo or Columbia (aprox 30 mile). Or enjoy what Newberry offers with a few window front stores and some good food and antiques. Newberry opera house is a popular attraction and has some amazing shows. If you prefer the outdoors , just head out the door and in about 2 minutes you will be in the Sumter National Forest. We have lots of beautiful country roads with very little traffic, perfect for bike riding , 10 mile toward Pomaria , you can pick up the famous Palmetto Trail, great for hikers or bikers. We host many families here to visit their students at Newberry college. This is also a great home to rent if you just need to get off the road and enjoy a good nights sleep, or want to get out of the city and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Our check in is super easy. We live nearby if you need anything at all, yet we give you absolute privacy. All dogs must be approved, and you must crate them when left alone. No cats, my wife is extremely allergic, thank you.

For those who love the outdoors, the Peak to Prosperity Passage and Palmetto Trail are also nearby. And if you're in the mood for some local libations, there are wineries and breweries in nearby towns. Restaurants are located right on the lake, so you won't have to go far to find a delicious meal.

Upon entering this charming and well-appointed home away from home, you are greeted by a spacious open floor plan. Discover a welcoming living room where you can spread out comfortably after an entertaining day at the lake - curl up on any of the sofas available and watch a fun movie using the DVD player, or break out any of the provided board games. When mealtime comes, prepare exquisite homemade meals in the well-equipped kitchen, complete with all the major appliances needed. The living area seamlessly opens onto a screened porch overlooking the lake where you can dine with a view and store your water toys. Attached to the screened porch is an uncovered deck facing the lake with a gas grill. Both areas are perfect for taking in the beautiful nature with sightings of birds, deer, cranes, and herons. Additional perks include a laundry room with a washer/dryer, central AC, and a main suite with a TV and an en suite bathroom.

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.
