Travel by vehicle barge or ferry from Redland Bay to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. Complimentary bus to RSL or Bowling Club on island. Amenities on island include Supa IGA, bakery, cafes/restaurants, fuel, fishing gear etc. There is a ride share service called ‘Island Ride’.

This is our personal family holiday home and we ask that you respect our house as we use it with our children and holiday here often to relax and kayak. Waterfront pet friendly holiday house on Karragarra Island on beautiful Moreton Bay.

Getting to Karragarra Island starts with a bit of adventure: a trip across the bay on the car barge or passenger ferry from Redland Bay. As soon as you disembark you step into a different zone.

There are no traffic lights, roundabouts nor even a stop sign on Karra. No shops or clubs. Just a tiny beach village a hop step and a jump from all those amenities. You are now on a peaceful island where you will have to get used to people saying “Hi " or a welcoming nod of the head as you pass by .

Ideal for a private romantic getaway, “Karra” (as the locals call it) has one of the nicest sandy beaches on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. The free sheltered bbq area and swimming enclosure is a great place to watch the sun go down with wine in hand .

The house is at the quietest eastern end of the island where you can sit on the front verandah and watch the ferries go by or just listen to the sounds of the abundant bird life. Put your crab pots down in front of the house if you like.

There are 4 complimentary pushbikes with helmets. Also a tandem bike - a fun way for a couple to explore the island together. Also available are 2 single kayaks and a double kayak with safety jackets, which can be launched near the house.

There is a fireplace in the house to keep warm on chilly evenings, while you play board games or cards around the dining table.

A boat brings a whole new world to explore with places like Peel Island, Blakesleys and Jumpinpin being favourites. The area around the islands is marine national park with turtles, dolphins and dugong to be seen. If fishing make sure you respect the boundaries of the green zones where no fishing is allowed. There are plenty of other spots where the fishing is great.

You can catch squire, bream, flathead and jewfish many places on the Bay . Crabbing is all year round and the crabs are very prolific. Just remember males of legal size are the only ones you can catch .

Passenger ferries make a loop of the islands in both directions en route to Redland Bay on the mainland. They offer free inter island travel several times an hour during the week (and about hourly on weekends) to the other islands on the loop: Macleay, Lamb and Russell Islands. So there is plenty to explore. Or, If you want a meal at a restaurant or club, it is just a matter of jumping on the interisland ferry to your choice of the other islands.

Most of the clubs offer a free courtesy bus and will pick you up at the ferry terminal and drop you off afterwards. You need to book this service with the venue (see list of eateries, clubs and pubs at the house.)

If you fancy a swing of golf for a very economical price, you can take the bikes across to Macleay island and ride to the course or they have a courtesy bus which will pick you up from the ferry terminal. The club hires golf clubs and also has a licensed restaurant.

Macleay and Russell also have a supermarket and shops so if there is anything you need it is 3 minutes to Macleay and 15 minutes to the larger island Russell by ferry.

If you are after peace and quiet doing as much or little as you want it would be hard to find a better place so close to the water .

The house is not suitable for toddlers under 3 years as, although legal in Qld there is no handrail on the front verandah as it is less than a metre high and we like the unobstructed view.

Access to the island is either by own watercraft, vehicle ferry (1hr from Redland Bay) (see Sealink website > SEQ) or passenger ferry (20-30 mins from Redland Bay).

If you want to use it as a base to explore further afield in SEQ, once back on the mainland, it is only 40 mins drive to Theme Parks on the Gold Coast.

Caution: we advise you not to sit directly under the coconut tree, as the coconuts can fall down!

Enchanted Garden cottage is the perfect place from which to enjoy everything the island has to offer - at the northern end of the island, it is under 2 kilometres to the shops, jetty, walks, parks, arts centre, community garden, fishing and swimming spots, boat ramp and restaurants. All are easy to walk to. But, with a bike path running from one end of the island to the other, why not copy so many islanders and give bike riding a go. Our cottage even has its own bike shed where you will find 4 bikes and helmets.

After your day’s activities - whether you have been seeing the sights, visiting the other islands (via the free inter island ferry), fishing or crabbing or kayaking - you can relax back at your wooded oasis. Karra -Mellow is a holiday house in the old style. Casual, beachy, a little bit quirky and with lots of things to do that you only do on holidays - board games, classic old movies, darts, or trying to ride the tandem bicycle. Lots of places to lounge. Large fenced grassy areas surrounded by bushy gardens where kids and pets can safely run around and explore. With bikes, table tennis and kayaks too, you can do as much or as little a you feel like.
At the eastern end of the island, with a grassy verge to the water, the house is very quiet and private. It is a 30 minute stroll (or 5 minute drive) along the waterfront from the ferry wharf or car barge.
The house has a larged screened verandah overlooking the water and several outdoor areas with BBQ, fire pit, tabletennis table, badminton.
Karragarra Island is a tiny friendly community without even a shop but boasts a white sandy beach, swimming enclosure and beachfront BBQ area. Yet the “high life” of supermarket, pub, golf club, restaurants etc is just a few minutes across the water by free regular passengr ferry at the other Southern Moreton Bay islands (Russell, Lamb and Macleay).
Fish, swim, island hop. And if you like seafood straight from the sea, don’t forget to bring your fishing tackle and crab pots.
