- "Perfect ski in and out ideal for a short ski break. Hotel decor in bedroom and dining room is tired and needs updating. The breakfast room has stunning views of mount Blanc. Food was delicious. Disappointing the fire pit was not ever lit. Spa was definitely a bonus. Staff friendly and very helpful. Great location. " - "This is a very small hotel, about 30 rooms, right at the foot of the ski slopes, with stunning views all round. Stayed there for a weeks skiing with a friend (the skiing is great there). The staff were all lovely, really helpful, hotel spotless, beautiful lounge and terrace, comfy dining room with log burner, and bar on the end of the hotel. Rooms a bit shabby but I guess they are doing the place up gradually. Very clean and comfortable though, great bed, and plenty of hot water. I stayed in a Superior room which was very spacious and had a balcony to sit out on, overlooking the slopes. I very much enjoyed the food: good variety at breakfast. The evening menu is quite short but they change the fish and meat option every day so there is plenty of variety, and everything I had was delicious. Very good drinks menu, if I have one criticism I would have liked a cheaper local wine option. We were very happy overall with what the hotel offered but should say that Le Bettex is a tiny hamlet, and the shops and bars there are only open during the day / early evening. This means if you want to eat elsewhere you really need a car, as there is nowhere else within walking distance at night. Also, because of the hotel location, you need to walk quite a way from their car park to the hotel with your luggage. These are not criticisms, just what you get if you want a ski in/out hotel. I loved my stay there and will certainly return if I get the chance. "

Couple of decent restaurants in La Fayet but have to go to St Gervais for better choice. - "Second stay at this apartment. Good location by the main gondola lift. Apartment is large and suitable for a family, with a king size bed, a double and a single bed. Lots of equipment and access to Netflix if you have an account. Remember to either bring your own towels and bedding or order in advance. Shower is hot and powerful and bathroom is clean and practical. Two fridges and two coffee machines! We ate out most evenings or got take away pizza, so I can not comment on the cooking facilities. St Gervais has lots of great eating places to explore and a fantastic local market on Thursday mornings. Apartment has carpark below, where we could always park and access is via a barrier (key fob provided) also available is a ski locker but we didn’t use this as we kept our skis and boots at Le Bettex in a hired locker called SkiLoc. Rental office in the town is easy to find and because we arrive after 6pm we collect the key from the office locker, communication is very good with own of the property and office staff. This year the owners told us there was a new washing machine which was better than the old one, again we didn’t use this during our stay. Apartment has a good size balcony, view is limited to another apartment and the lift, so not Mountain View’s really. But still lots of pluses for this apartment, hence why we returned again this year."

- "Very nice hotel & restaurant. Excellent food and friendly staff. The only thing that was a bit of a problem was the noise. Since the rooms are right above the restaurant, you can hear conversations late into the night, as well as noise from cars passing by, as the hotel is right next to the road. On a warm night, it's too hot to keep the window closed, so it's a choice between temperature and noise. Also, there is a bright light right above the window, which stays on all night. Again, with the window and the curtains closed, it's not a problem, but when I was there it was too warm. Other than that, this is a really nice place."

- "We really enjoyed our stay with 4 persons (2 kids, 2 adults) at this well equipped, clean and very well kept apartment. The views on the mountains are very beautiful, and the property is located in a good place for skying. We stayed in February and there was sufficient snow to ski back to the appartement. The owners are really friendly and helpful. We can warmly recommend this place." - "Great apartment, well appointed and with a very welcoming host. Very private on the top floor of the property. We had no issues during our stay where we needed to contact the hosts..As they live on the floor below though they were always easily available. Recommend a car if you're skiing as it allows access more easily to a lot more of the Evasion ski area including Les Contamines and Combloux/Jaillet without spending lots of time travelling between areas using lifts. Property has a garage with ski rack so storing/drying skis nightly is easy. Unfortunately the snow wasn't as good as we would have hoped so (nearly) ski-in, ski-out wasn't an option on this occasion, but had the resort run which is within 100m of the apartment been open then it would have been perfect. On days we were skiing Bettex/Megeve then no car would have been needed. If the run is closed or you don't have a car, then would recommend hiring a locker as the walk to the Bettex gondola isn't really something to be attempted in ski boots. Town is between a 20/25 minute walk and easily do-able, but be aware that if you're coming back from a satisfying dinner then it's uphill for a most of the way coming home! Kitchen has all the amenities you need if you want to self cater though, although we chose to mostly have our main meal on the mountain during the day. Definitely recommended, and we wouldn't have any hesitation to book another stay in future."

Spacious, warm, central heating, dish washer, only one flight of stairs to enter the room. The building is at the bottom of small 50m slope. The ski locker is in an adjacent building but you can use a lift to reach the main road. Takes less than 10 mins to walk into the main village, 15 mins to walk to first bubble car (L’Alpin). The stop for the free shuttle is directly across the road from the apartment. The host, Gerard was lovely and met us earlier to help check in. He spoke limited English but we managed with google translate. Just be wary, there is no WIFI in the apartment, however this did not put us off and we would definitely book again. The ski area of Saint Gervais les bain is great, plenty of runs for all and not too much effort to reach from the village. Overall, a very pleasant stay. (Tip: book your ski lockers at the L’Alpin early to avoid disappointment. You then don’t have to walk each day to/from the L’Alpin with your gear or having to squeeze on to the shuttle bus with everyone else). "

The OVO Network team’s opinion - Grand Mazot La Chandelle is a beautifully-renovated farm building in Bionnassay, a small hamletabove the busy resort of Saint-Gervais (8km), but you'll feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere and yet, you’ll be just 15 minutes from the slopes!

The mazot sleeps up to four guests, with one bedroom and a shower room. It's rare to find such well-appointed properties for small groups, especially detached ones!

The ground floor has a dining room, a well-equipped kitchen with a washing machine, a shower room with WC and a seating area with a sofa and chairs. There's no television in the mazot but there is wifi, and the owners have provided a selection of board games.

Upstairs, there's a delightful bedroom under the eaves, with a large double bed and two single beds. Head height is restricted, but the abundance of beams and the windows with heart-shaped shutters make this a very cosy space.

Outside, there's a table with bench seating where you can enjoy a drink or a meal in front of the stunning mountain views.

The mazot enjoys a peaceful and secluded location, just 200 meters from the main road, and is accessible via a paved road. During the winter season, this road is cleared of snow daily, but please note that snow tires and chains are mandatory to access the property. A 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended in case of heavy snowfall.

Groups can book the Grand Mazot La Chandelle with Chalet La Chandelle (12) and/or the Petit Mazot La Chandelle (2 guests), giving a total capacity of up to 18 guests.

The mazot enjoys a peaceful and secluded location, just 200 meters from the main road, and is accessible via a paved road. During the winter season, the main road is cleared of snow daily, but please note that you will need snow tyres and chains to access the property. A 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended in case of heavy snowfall. Because the chalet is a converted "mazot" or outbuilding, space is limited. There is restricted head height in the bedroom and facilities are limited: e.g. there is no wardrobe or bedside lights in the bedroom and the beds, although comfortable, are low. The size of the kitchen means there is no dishwasher. A car park is available 200m from the mazot. Parties are not permitted in order to respect the tranquillity of the village.

We require a security deposit of €1,000 via a pre-authentication of your credit or debit card, which does not affect your card balance. The pre-authentication will be released as soon as we’ve checked the property and confirmed there is no damage. This is normally done right after your stay, but it could take up to 14 days after your departure.
