- "GOOD APART FROM CHOOSING THE HOTEL WITH INTENTION OF USING THE FACILITY OF THE BAR TO FIND IT CLOSED AT 7PM WHICH WAS DISAPPOINTING. I do think maybe it would be good to inform people in advance of this somehow as I was away with work and was desperate to sleep. Slightly overpriced in my opinion as I do travel a lot and in comparison to other places it didn’t warrant the £54 a night. Definitely needing a revamp as the wallpaper in the hallways was also falling off visibly not a good look and as I said the mattress definitely needs changing. I’m Not sure I would stay again but the manager and her family were very nice and welcoming all the same. This is an honest review and if your into the supernatural I would definitely recommend. "

- "We stayed at 1 The Maltings on Saturday 16th August - a group of 3 of us who were working at the nearby Mid-Somerset Show. We arrived at 1700hrs - the earliest check in time and realised we did not have any email from the property with a key code. On trying the number for the owner, it simply rang out, no message facility. Over 45 minutes later we managed to get the code from a very helpful Hotels.com customer service person. The email with the code was sent at 22:30hrs that night - not very helpful. The apartment is compact - bedrooms are okay - 3 doubles, pretty basic. There is a kitchen which is serviceable. The bathroom is a converted small cupboard, consisting of shower, basin and toilet. If sitting on the toilet, your feet are in the shower tray. For the odd night it’s workable. Shower was pretty good - mixer type running off combi boiler. It was a shame to have found long hairs stuck to the side of the cubicle - not the cleanest. Bedroom cleanliness was not brilliant - clearly nobody moves any furniture very often to clean around anything. The floor covering is a little misleading - it looks grubby, but is actually the grey pattern. There are 3 TV’s - one in each bedroom, but we could only find 2 remotes. There are no USB outlets in the property - take your plugs to charge devices! Biggest issue was just getting in - by reading the reviews, this is clearly not a one-off."

East Pennard is a beautiful village on Pennard Ridge, close to Bruton (Hauser and Wirth), Castle Cary, Glastonbury, the City of Wells and Shepton Mallet. Frome is a short drive.

We are close to the Glastonbury Festival site and often have guests staying for this event.

There are lovely walks or bicycle rides on our doorstep and many others in the locality. The views across the levels from the top of the ridge are stunning.

There is a fantastic range of activities in the area from the world famous Glastonbury Festival to countless other events at the Bath and West Showground. There are numerous historic houses and landscapes to visit.

The perfect bolt hole for 2, with super comfy king size bed, squashy velvet sofa and wood burning stove, this really is the place to be to enjoy a cosy time away with a loved one (and your dog!). There's a village pub, and Co-op too.
The space
The cottage is set back from a quiet little road in the village of Pilton. When you come in the front door from the little cottage front garden, you’ll be greeted by a lovely little lounge, with original flagstone flooring and vintage Beni Ourain rug from the Atlas mountains which is super soft under foot. There’s a smart tv, with Sonos Soundbar, Netflix, Amazon Prime and a DVD Player, Fast Fibre WiFi, Sonos speakers and Alexa if you want your tech, and boho-chic colours and styling with a wood burner and a soft sofa and comfy high backed arm chair if you just want to kick back and relax. The lounge is so peaceful, getting the afternoon sun in through the little window, and staying cool
in summer with the stone flooring, yet you can stoke it up nice and toasty for those cosy winter evenings infront of the wood burner.

The kitchen is through the doorway off the back of the lounge - all recently refurbished. We love to cook, so we’ve provided almost everything you could think of in the kitchen to make your stay easier, and many guests have commented on this in their reviews!. There’s an induction hob, electric fan oven, slim dishwasher and microwave, and a fridge freezer. You’ll also find a nespreso machine and a couple more sonos speakers if you fancy music and coffee (although please bring your own coffee pods!).

Through to the bathroom, with Bramley shampoo, shower gel, hand wash and hand cream for a touch of luxury during your stay. There's an electric shower over the bath which heats water on demand to a nice hot temperature. The light above the mirror will come on automatically when it detects movement after dusk, to help you navigate the cottage at night.

From the back door in the kitchen, you can access the fully enclosed rear garden. There’s a patio set, a barbecue and lighting for using the outdoor space at night. (Although be sure to keep the lights off when star-gazing ! - the village has no street lights, so there is hardly any light pollution - the Pilton stars are hence amazing !)

Upstairs at the cottage is 1 bedroom with a lovely comfy king size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets. The windows both have black out curtains/blinds to block out the morning light. There’s a little desk and an Italian leather office chair to use as a dressing table or light use workspace - and a comfy little armchair if you want to sit by the window upstairs and read. A salon grade hairdryer is supplied so no need to pack your own from home.

** PLEASE NOTE** The bedroom has some very low sloped ceilings which run close to the bed on one side, so may not be suitable for very tall folk or those with mobility or balance issues. The stairs up to the bedroom are old and a little crooked so again, may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. The bedroom also has one floor level window with no safety catch (just a normal window latch) so may not be suitable for toddlers and young children. We currently offer 3 night minimum stays, so we can afford our housekeeper to do the brilliant job she does, and to reduce the impact of potentially lots of shorter stays on our lovely neighbours and the village as a whole.

We also allow up to 2 small/medium sized dogs to stay (and the cottage and village are perfect for dog lovers!). We can’t allow any more than this unfortunately as the space is just too compact (and old!) - if you have more (or bigger!) dogs then we’d recommend looking at some of the more spacious places in the village and surrounding areas.

Parking is on the road right in front of the cottage - its a quiet lane, not a busy thoroughfare, and we've never had an issue with ourselves or guests parking there. Unfortunately there is no "off road" parking due to the size of our little cottage.

Have an electric vehicle ? - Pilton has 2 EV charging points at the Co-op - just 5 minutes walk away from the cottage. There is a 22Kw and a 7Kw lead, and there's no issue leaving your car there overnight to charge (we do this regularly!). Download the "City EV" app for access. If you need something faster, there are 2 x Instavolt 150Kw Chargers at Charlton House Spa in Shepton Mallet, just down the road.

The sound system was a real bonus and really made the place feel extra special. We loved looking through the photo album left of the renovations Darren and Nicky had done over the years! We had a meal at The Crown in the village on a Friday night and were lucky enough to be there on a night with music and lots of dancing. The locals were all very friendly and welcoming (as was the cider!). Darren was brilliant and there for any questions we had. He got back to us very quickly and even recommended a lovely walk around the village. We didn’t have a car but didn’t feel we needed one on reflection - there is plenty to explore and a bus to Glastonbury town too which was a really special day out (the tor is a must!). Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of rural Somerset, a vehicle is recommended to make the most of your stay here. Private parking is provided for up to 3 vehicles.

If you do travel by train, the nearest station is in Castle Cary around 8 miles or 15 minutes drive away. It's easily rideable for those with bikes and the area is very secure if you would like to keep them on site.

Other Things to Note:
The bed in the single bedroom is on a raised level, so is likely only suitable for children. Adults are more than welcome to use it, but please be aware there is a low, sloping ceiling. The cottage is therefore best suited to a maximum of 6 adults plus 1 child.

The gardener cuts the grass once a week in summer, usually on a Tuesday.

We welcome a maximum of 2 dogs on the condition they are kept off sofas and beds, not left in the property unattended and any dog mess is cleaned up.

The loft it’s self is modern and sleek but has everything you need. We where blessed with great weather, and you might want wellies if the weather is less clement.
