- "We left 2 days earlier and didn´t ask for a refund - no reason to loose any more lifetime there. -) Asking at the check in if we can have a PAID upgrade, we got told, that this might be possible the day after, as the reservation team had already left - fair enough. - )First we´ve got a room which hasn´t been cleaned, at least not the bathroom, located on the ground floor with streetview (to be fair, we haven´t booked a "deluxe room" but for 120€ a night, you´d expect a bit more.) After complaining at the reception the very friendly and helpfull gentleman offered us first a free upgrade to the 2nd floor which turned then into an paid upgrade with side-seaview for 10€ a day. (so suddenly it worked also on the same day). Ok, the view was great. The room kind of clean. 130€/night. -)Unfortunately the balcony had no roof- hot as hell, you had to be carefull not to sit in any pigeon droppings. -)There aren´t any blinds to the neighbour balconies, so you have full view to 4 or 5 rooms next to you. -)You are in the middle of everything, so you have the full party noise from the surrounding. -)Breakfast: The waiter looks annoyed and the variety didn´t reflect in any way a 4 star hotel. The table was sticky. -)The room had a kitchen, so you´d expect to leave food there right? Well, ANTS conquered the breakfast on the 3rd floor - time to leave. No value for money. There´s a wide range of better offers on the canaries than this. Simply a joke and never again. "

- "lovely place and people. However, I discovered a failure of communication from Expedia to the hotel. Expedia fails to inform the hotel whether the booking is fully paid. Without the voucher, the hotel had the booking but not this information. A system failure at the Expedia end." - "This hotel exceeded my expectations. One can always find things that could be improved, but for me those things were inconsequential compared to the overall feeling that the complex is well-maintained and well-run. The bed was comfortable, the room was spotless, the shower was hot with good water pressure, and the room was quiet at night even though it faced the street. The pool area was nicely landscaped and there were enough sunbeds. The breakfast was reliably good without being spectacular. Staff were always helpful and friendly."

- "We were very pleased with aspects of our stay, the apartment was clean and bright, next to the sea and was comfortable and generally well equipped. However the shower was not hot and had to run for around 10 minutes before reaching its maximum, inadequate temperature. I was also disappointed to be asked for an 80 euro deposit for keys, one of which was electronic and didn't work. We were not warned this would be the case and it seems excessive. On the day we arrived I received an email telling me to expect an Expedia charge on my credit card to pay the rental. I had paid the rental several months previously and had no dealings with Expedia. I contacted the owners, but received no reply, explanation or apology although the additional charge never appeared on my credit card account. Finally, virtually every day for a week prior to arrival, I received email requests to register electronically. I would have been happy to do this, but the link didn't work, despite trying to use it several times. Again I contacted the owners/agents but never received a reply. We found the on-site, part-time staff polite and helpful, the problem seemed to lie with the owners or whoever deals with emails and other electronic communications on their behalf."

Our individually and lovingly furnished holiday home with pool and small tropical garden is in an exposed location in the upper district of La Calera in the Valle Gran Rey. You can reach it via natural stone stairs about 10 meters above the old main street.
Here you have a wonderful view of the mountain, valley and sea from several terraces.
The highlight is a small salt water pool that can do without additional chlorine chemistry and is available exclusively to you. On the wooden terrace in front you will find deck chairs to relax.
5 palm trees in the garden provide shade and largely obscure the view of the garden area.

The house itself extends over 3 levels and offers space for 4 adults who can spend the night in a separate studio with bathroom and kitchenette or in the bedroom of the main house.

The cottage is situated at the very edge of Chele, right on the eastern side of the mountain, in the middle of Valle Gran Rey, away from the main road. Earlier this wine was made, now the owner of Lucas and Lucia have there hingebaut a small house, which is on the edge of a very large terraced garden with palm trees and vines, native fruit trees (oranges, lemons, loquat), coffee shrubs, herbs and vegetables.

Here you can hear chirping songbirds, lizards rustle, call kestrels, complain goats from afar silently. Here you can see the shadow of the mountain, as the sun slowly rises (in winter later!), And an infinite number of stars twinkle in the night at the jet black sky. Occasionally falls, the "brisa" from the mountain, clouds move through the valley or the wind howls around the house, but the sun never hides long.

The front has, very bright room, a continuous wall of windows overlooking the garden, the valley and the opposite mountain. He is living and dining room and kitchen at the same time, equipped with a comfortable sofa, dining table, chairs and all the necessary appliances.
The back room is a very quiet bedroom with a large double bed, en-suite bathroom, TV and router for the Wi-Fi (wireless). The window opens onto the garden, so you can sleep very quiet even with the windows open.

The house is a retreat and at the same time an ideal starting point for hikes - down to the sea (about 40 minutes) or up into the mountains. Despite its remoteness, it is easily reached by car - from the small Calle de Chele goes up to a step-like way - approximately 45 steps - and then there are still about 60 feet straight stretch. Lucas helps guests high carrying the baggage.

The nearest supermarket and the nearest bus stop are in Los Granados three minutes by car, about 15 minutes.

This picturesque village of 40 houses hidden away between the volcanic mountains, offers a quiet, beautiful escape for anyone wanting to relax.
At the end of the road, park the car and walk down a stone and grass footpath( uneven and not suitable for anyone who is not fit) that winds through the palm trees for 200 m before you reach SUNSET RETREAT. Our house is at 100 metres above sea level. Enjoy the completely private terrace, with sunbeds and outdoor shower, a large garden with mango trees and palm trees. The evenings are long and the sunsets into
the sea are amazing. The night sky offers stunning views (no light pollution here) and the Milky Way is easily spotted.
This old tomato packing house, completely renovated, offers a kitchen, large bathroom and a bright living room with an open plan bedroom. This summer (2024) we have had a new roof put onto the house. It looks great and it will be quieter inside as it is a lot more insulated.
The same footpath continues down to the coast with a great headland with views along the entire coast. You can see the old Pier, still standing. The village has a church, BBQ area, bar/restaurant, another rocky beach and many walks.
If you want to get away from it all, this is the perfect place for you!!!!

- "We had a good time at Sunset Retreat. The house itself is renovated and furnished with a lot of thought and love. The place is remote which we enjoyed very much. Apart from some hikers passing by it feels like you are quite on your own. And the sunsets are stunning. Given that there is no bus connection you need to have a car or arrange your tours via taxi (what we did). Most of the time it is very quiet ('muy tranquilo' as all the taxi drivers said) and you can hear only birds, the wind and sometimes waves crashing down at the cliffs. The only annoying sounds are the dogs in the valley. When they are left alone, they tend to bark and howl with a rather disturbing stamina. The communication with Barbara was very easy. Due to the schedule change of the ship on our arrival we had to change the handover plans for the keys on last minute. Barbara was very helpful and accomodating. When you visit Sunset Retreat don't miss the sunset on the nearby beach Playa de Guariñen. I would say the name Sunset Retreat says it all. :-) A nice place to be on your own, to relax and enjoy the beauty of the sunsets."

The apartment is on the second floor of the house 'La Molina', which looks like the prow of a ship into the valley. The rooms are friendly and bright, there is a spacious kitchen and living area with a couch, two bedrooms, a larger one with a double bed and a very small one, also with a double bed, a bathroom and a small balcony. Our guests are able to share about it, the large, tiled roof terrace above. In the studio and in the apartment below live two quiet people. Since May 2016 there is Wi-Fi (WiFi).

Children under 5 years are free of charge. When booking, please only enter the number of guests over 5 and let us know the number of children under 5 in the letter.

- "We thoroughly recommend this house. It's excellent for couples (perhaps three) seeking a characterful, quiet place to stay in a beautiful location. The house: The decor is intriguing, the owner having re-used lovely carved and painted woodwork in its beautiful restoration. It's clean and bright, with a basic kitchen and a large bedroom with memorable views - and there's a choice of private places to sit outside. The owner is friendly, relaxed and helpful during both the booking process and the stay. The setting: Casa Bonita sits in a pretty hamlet perched above the village of El Guro on the path to the waterfall It's not overlooked. Note that there's no direct road access. To reach the house you have to climb stone steps (lots! - a feature of la Gomera that you'll get used to) and the car gets parked way down below in parking bays flanking the road. Bear in mind that all the building materials came up these same steps by muscle power; an impressive achievement! The area: In the hamlet there's a friendly lunchtime café offering soup and coffee, cakes, beer, wifi, and another nearby offering crêpes. There's also a good Gomeran café with excellent local food just below on the road. For shopping either go up to Los Granados (small supermercados) or down towards Vueltas (Spar) or La Playa, both walkable, if steep. Things to do: The views from the house are incredible and we found it ever-fascinating to watch them change over the course of the day. Do go whale-watching. We went on the "Tina" and had an informative guide, sangría and simple tapas, a chance to swim from the boat in a safe bay and we saw pilot whales up very close and various species of dolphin, too. We walked a great deal, both around the Valle Gran Rey itself and after trips in the car. All the paths are wonderfully signed and maintained, again using impressive human and donkey muscle-power. Just get a decent map (I recommend Walk! La Gomera Tour & Trail 1:35000 scale) and follow your nose. Be aware, though, that La Gomera is a strenuous destination and it's not somewhere that offers many flat strolls. Top tip: Take/find a stout stick. It'll be useful! We also loved driving around La Gomera. The roads are excellent but very twisty, so even short distances on the map take a long time. For food, my tip is go where the locals eat. All in all, we feel we made a great choice when we decided on Casa Bonita."
