About the apartment

Palazzo Colpace rental consists of a large apartment located at the second floor of a nineteen century building. The apartment includes a master bedroom, a smaller bedroom, a very large living room, a big kitchen and two bathrooms. All rooms are vaulted. A large terrace faces the sea on one side and a balcony offers open views of the city on the other side. Wear your bathing suit and go to swim just under the Palazzo, or wear your walking shoes and wonders in the narrow streets of Ortigia, or just sit at a cafe in the main square having your gelato or sipping your favorite refreshing drink. The location of the house offers privacy, but is only an easy 10 minute walk to the main square, or the Arethusa spring, and shops with art crafts or object of Italian design, or cafes and restaurants offering the many delicacies of Sicilian cuisine.

The living room continues onto a large terrace with two lounge chairs, a dining table and a sofa. They create a perfect spot for relaxation, private sunbathing, romantic dining, or just sea watching. The living room contains a dining table, a comfortable leather sofabed, along with a coffee table and a wall-unit equipped with TV monitor and stereo. A large glass door divides the living room from the kitchen. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, oven, microwave, washing machine, refrigerator and freezer, as well as a dining table. A second sofabed is also present in the kitchen for an extra guest or just for enjoying reading a book or a newspaper. Palazzo Colpace is three minutes walking from Forte Vigliena, leading down to the water’s edge through a few steps. Forte Vigliena is open all day and offers immediate access to the crystal clear waters of the Ionian sea. The Historic Center of Ortigia all around, with its buildings of great cultural value, make Siracusa a favorite tourist destination. Especially at night, when the streetlights of this little island create a very special atmosphere, as if one were in a stately home full of works of art and beautiful buildings for one to discover and explore.

Location

The apartment is located in the heart of the Ortigia, an island on which the old colony of Siracusa was established. It is only a few minutes walk from Piazza Duomo, the Castello Maniace, the ancient Jewish mikvah, the marina and many other historic monuments and sites, not to mention fine restaurants, shopping, a seaside promenade, and more. The archeological park with the Greek Theater, and museums are a half hour walk or ten minute drive away. The closest airport is located in Catania at approximately 35 minutes' drive to the north. Airport pick up and drop off available from local taxi services.

Siracusa is located on the East coast of Sicily. The coast is characterized by sandy beaches such as the famous “Fontane bianche” with crystal-clear water, easily reachable from Ortigia by a 20 minutes drive. In less than 1 hour drive you can also reach Vendicari natural park, Cava Grande, the Pantalica natural park, Palazzolo with a small enchanted Greeck Theatre, along with Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli and Modica, four towns belonging to the UNESCO, and famous for their Baroque buildings. At approximately 150 Kms, with daily excursions, you can reach Taormina, the park of the mighty Volcano Mount Etna, Agrigento, Piazza Armerina with the famous Roman Villa, The Castle of Donnafugata where the film by Visconti “The Leopard” was partly shot, and many more places that have been built in the last 4.000 years in Sicily.

THE SURROUNDING AREA:
The apartment is situated in one of the most fascinating areas of the magical island of Ortigia.
Just steps away are Piazza Duomo, the Temple of Apollo, and the Aretusa Fountain. In just a few minutes, you can wander through a maze of charming streets, enriched by stunning Baroque palaces, churches, secret courtyards, shops, restaurants, and bars.

At the Marina, located just a few meters from the building, you can rent a boat or take a guided boat tour to enjoy our beautiful sea.

Less than a five-minute walk away, you'll find an elegant and well-organised beach club where you can sunbathe and swim in one of the most beautiful areas of Ortigia (Solarium Zefiro Lounge Bar, Via della Marina di Ortigia).

A delightful little beach, Calarossa Beach, is about 15 minutes away on foot, or you can reach it by bus, which runs every 10 minutes around the island (bus 110).

If you love Sicilian cuisine, the area offers an abundance of restaurants and lovely cafes.
For a local experience, you can shop at our colourful daily market, just about three minutes away, where you will find fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and other typical products, all while immersing yourself in a unique folkloric atmosphere.

"Suite 18" is conveniently located about 10 minutes by car from the A18 highway, making it an ideal starting point for day trips:

If you’re a fan of the sea, within 20 minutes by car, you can reach some of the most beautiful seaside areas in Syracuse (Terrauzza, Fontane Bianche, and Arenella).
Should you prefer less touristy beaches, I would be happy to recommend my favourite spots.

MOVING AROUND:
While everything is within a very short walking distance, cycling enthusiasts will find two bicycles available.
Additionally, you will find several options for renting scooters or Vespas nearby. You can also organise a ride in an Apecar, a fun three-wheeled vehicle (with driver) that is typical of this area.
If you wish to rent a car upon arrival, two car rental agencies are located just a few meters from the apartment.

PARKING:
Near the apartment, there are several parking alternatives.
If you prefer to park free of charge, the nearest free parking area is in Via Riva Forte Gallo (about 4 minutes from the apartment).
If you are looking for a car park, the nearest one is Marina Parking (2 euros per h.), a two-minute walk from Suite18; it is a good choice if you need to unload your luggage at the apartment.
The Talete parking (Lungomare Elio Vittorini, in Ortigia) and the Molo S. Antonio parking ( via Bengasi / via Rodi, on the mainland) are both about a 5-minute walk from the apartment, and they are much larger (1.50 euros per hour, 15 euros per day).
Less than 10 minutes from Suite18, you will also find a private garage, Garage la Mesa (via dei Mergulensi 14).
In Ortigia, you can park for free in the spots with white lines. The nearest free parking area is next to Talete Parking.
Avoid parking in areas marked with yellow lines for residents; you can park in the blue-lined spots by purchasing a ticket from a tobacconist.

I always greet my guests in person and give them a tour of the apartment. Self-check-in is available upon request. There is a lockbox near the entrance, and I will send you detailed instructions before your arrival. I will also be available to assist you if you need help.

The property is beautifully furnished and fully equipped and has a lovely homely feel from the second you walk through the front door. One of the highlights is the balcony overlooking the harbour which is perfect for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch or a sunset dinner and which floods the apartment with light and a cool sea breeze. The quality of the property is mirrored by the quality of the host, Maria, who was simply exceptional. Both before and during our stay, Maria was on hand to provide us with everything we needed to know, including lots of recommendations for cultural attractions, cafes, bars, restaurants, beaches, parking, etc. This lady really cares about Sicily, Ortigia and her apartment and goes above and beyond to maximise the enjoyment of her guests. Without doubt, the very best host we’ve encountered anywhere on our travels. The only downside is that we couldn’t stay longer!"
