12 West Street was built for successful wine merchant and tavern owner, James Eden in 1897. He hired prominent local architect, C.B. Chappell to design his new beautiful Queen Anne Revival house in the west end of Charlottetown. Eden spared no expense in the construction of his home, and this room is a perfect example of this. For this reason, we named one of our beautiful suites after the architect. The C.B Chappell room features an elegant four poster king bed framed by tall windows that face the stately Grafton street and give a beautiful view of the harbour and Victoria Park. The fireplace gives the room a romantic feel, as does the canopy bed.

While James Eden was the initial owner of the house that is now this bed and breakfast, he would live at 12 West Street until 1923, at which point it was purchased by merchant and future Lieutenant Governor, George DeBlois. DeBlois was a successful merchant and exporter, and this room reflects what his own personal getaway place might have looked like – luxurious dark red wood paneling, dark red walls to give the room a lounge-like feel, a beautiful, ornate queen bed frame and lots of shelf space for displaying unique finds and artwork. We have added modern conveniences to complement the older aesthetic style, like an HD TV, recessed into a wooden hutch so to not intrude into the room, private bath, wifi, and air conditioning. Private SEMI-DETACHED, spacious and updated duplex style home on an old farm property.

The space
Located on a 113-year-old farm property surrounded by maples, we have one BIG farm house. You are renting a duplex style home (this means a semi-detached 2 story unit) that is attached to the main farm house on the left, there is NO connection and there are no doors through to the main house, so it is entirely private. The photos describe the layout better than words can!

This spot makes a great central location to explore both Charlottetown and PEI from. It is 12-15 minutes to Brackley Beach and similar to downtown. You will have;

- Own front entry and porch, private side deck (older but functional, scheduled for future renovations)
- Living room with couch/TV - NO CABLE/not a smart TV, but there are some DVDs supplied & books. Heatpump in the living room provides central heating for the whole unit. (AC as well)
- Kitchen with BASIC eating utensils, plates, cups, stove, microwave,option for coffee/tea brewing-
please bring your own kitchen gadgets if you require them. (we do not supply any food items or condiments)
- Full bathroom with tub, includes towels, shampoo, handsoap, TP
- The second story has an area to get some work done with a desk overlooking the fields next to the property
- Bedroom with comfortable queen sized pillow-top Sealy mattress (pillow-top means this is a soft mattress!) (bedding+spare bedding supplied) and another half bath.
- Singular dedicated parking space
- You should have a vehicle to tour PEI. Public transit is nearby but poor timetables/reach.

NO PETS allowed/permitted inside the rental unit. There are other farm animals around the property including birds, often foxes, the occasional raccoon, skunk, bugs, etc.

This Suite is attached to the Host's home. The Suite and the Host's home are completely separate units. The Suite has its own private entrance. However, the main house shares a wall with the bedroom and bathroom of the Suite. Guests will hear the Host family from time to time. You may hear the garage door, footsteps, children (we have three ages 12-16) and the sounds of daily living during daytime hours.

There is a large backyard on the property including a covered wooden deck attached to an outbuilding and a double car garage. These spaces are not for guest use. You may see and hear the Host family on nice days.

We ask that respect quiet hours (from 11pm-7am) and we will do the same!

There are blinds on the windows which close from the top or bottom allowing guests to choose their level of privacy and view. There is one off street parking space that comes with the home. If you have two vehicles there is plenty of free on street parking close by. Please reference the check-in instructions which will provide pictures of where your off street parking space is.

There is another completely separate unit on the upper level of this home. Their entrance is on the main level which shares a wall with the bedroom and bathroom area of this suite.
