How the Vailato name was taken The institution of Vailos during the years of Venetian rule in Corfu Views: One of the most important institutions in the administrative system in the first years of Venetian rule in Corfu was the institution of Vailos. § Vailos (as he was called in Corfu) was the bailiff (the commander/ambassador of the venetian republic) who was accountable and controlled by the General bailiff and was in charge of important executive and judicial powers. Of historical and architectur al interest is Vailato, which, in addition to being the residence of Vailos, also housed the archives of the community and also served judicial functions. For this reason in the archives we find it under the name Palazzo Pretoreo. In addition, Vailato was the meeting place of the Consulta del conclave. In the early years of Venetian rule, Vailos Palace, like all public administration buildings, was located within the fortified city. Later, the Vailos building was moved to Agios Iakovos Square. Exactly when it was built is not known. It is estimated that it was built after the siege of 1571 and the wall of the suburb. The choice of the location of the building and the other public buildings in the square (Archbishop's Palace, club of nobles) was not at all accidental. The Venetians shaped the center of the then new city with buildings that symbolized their administration and religion. Vailato was a two storey building of large dimensions and included areas of main use, utilities and a courtyard garden. Access to the building was via a staircase, which led to a portico with four Doric columns on the façade. from which they entered the great hall of the floor. There was a large meeting room, a prayer room, and auxiliary rooms for staff. On the ground floor there were places for the guard and the archives. Several modifications and changes followed inside the Vailatos as it served various functions. TODAY Much of the building was destroyed by earthquakes that struck the city and during the Turkish siege of 1716. In 1931 the building was demolished "to find Court Street" and a primary the SCHOOL that you can see direct through the window was built in its place.

As soon as you descend the square you will find the Corfu polyclinic and one of the best and most famous restaurants on the island, Pomo DOro Corfu. In the minute descending you are in the picturesque center of the city and you meet in front of you the bell tower of the church of Anunciata. At the end of the main pedestrian street you are Liston Square and the spinada where you see the old fortress standing in front of you. The space
In a unique beauty landscape like the one of the traditional settlement of Chlomos, you will find our apartment! It is ideal for spending your holidays with your family or friends. It has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and single bed and another with a double bed. Also in our spacious living room there is a sofa that becomes a bed and can also accommodate extra visitors. Just next to the living room is our fully equipped kitchen (dishes, glasses, cooking utensils, toaster, coffee maker, electric kettle) and our dining room where you can enjoy your meals! TV, wi-fi, iron for clothes, ironing board, washing machine, hair dryer are all at your disposal. In the background you will find our comfortable bathroom.
At the front of the house there is a balcony from which you have great view. At the entrance of your floor you have your own balcony, which has sofa and dining room as well as armchairs! An ideal place for your breakfasts! Finally, climbing the outer staircase you have access to another balcony with sun loungers perfect for sunbathing. Being the highest point the view is magnificent!

On the ground floor of the building is the house where I and my husband live in the summer months. We will be at your disposal whenever you need it without interfering to your private space.

Chlomos-which is 31 km away.-it is located on the eastern side of the mountain “Merovigli” of southern Corfu, at a height of 270-320m near Boukari and has been built in the 13th century. The scattered ruins on the slopes of the mountain and the existence of an altar of Apollo in the place of the current temple of Taxiarches testify to the presence of residents from the pre-Christian era.
The first residents came from Vizantio as fugitives or mercenaries of the Byzantines who stayed in Corfu. Later they came from other places and mainly from the area of Korission (Linia) where they had to climb due to malaria and pirates.

Batis Breeze is situated in Perama which is only 6 km from Corfu Town and within walking distance from Pontikonisi Island, the landmark of Corfu! Perama is a well-known area due its magnificent views of Mouse Island and our B&B has one of the best views of this landmark. We are also within 2 minute walking distance from the nearest beach, the bus station is 50m away and Corfu airport only 5 km. We also have an on-site mini-market, bar & café and also next to other restaurants and café/bars.
