Its artfully laid out indigenous garden attracts a variety of special bird species such as White- eared Barbets; Trumpeter Hornbills; Twinspots; Tinkerbirds and has even enjoyed the occasional visit from the Palmnut Vultures that roost in the Raphia palms no more than 200m from its front door. Whilst sitting on the deck overlooking the garden breath taking sunsets can be viewed over the rolling hills of Zululand.
Mtunzini B&B is within easy walking distance of pubs and restaurants. MTB and hiking trails begin almost on our doorstep and a host of different sporting facilities such as a scenic golf course overlooking the ocean; a manicured bowling green; squash courts and tennis courts all lie within a two kilometre radius of Mtunzini B&B.
Also within this radius lies the Umlalazi Nature Reserve with its wide, navigable river; mangrove swamps; coastal dune forests and wetlands. Its expansive; undeveloped sandy shore stretches for kilometres in both northerly and southerly directions. Red Duiker and zebras are commonly seen in this reserve and it boasts a large variety of birdlife. Surf- ski paddling; canoeing and boating are popular on the Umlalazi River. Fishing is popular along the river banks and the sea shore. The reserve gates only close at 10 pm allowing one to indulge in some spectacular star gazing whilst enjoying sundowners and evening braais at the picnic sites along the Umlalazi River.
