The space
Our home is set on 2 acres of hillside land, with 180 degree views overlooking the town of Penguin and Bass Strait. It is 5 minutes walk to beach, shopping, cafes, restaurants and hotels.
You can park your car right outside of your bedroom window, so you will know it is safe and secure.

Guest access
You will share access to all living areas outside of your bedroom. This includes the lounge, kitchen, laundry, garden and balcony. There is 1 bedroom available for rent so these spaces are only shared with the owners.
We have a second smaller bedroom with a king-single bed that you can request for an additional guest for an extra $30.
Breakfast (self serve) consists of plunger coffee, tea, cereal, toast and home made jams.

This room is an officially AAA accredited 4 star room with a King bed that can be split into two single beds on request and with a stylish sofa that can be converted to a sofa bed for a 3rd guest . The space
Madsen Retreat is a large Mediterranean style home converted into a 4-star guest house. It is in a quiet street just a 5 minute walk from Penguin Beach and shops. It sits on a large 950 square metre block of land on a hill that provides views of the ocean. You can relax in your room, upstairs common area with sea views, in the downstairs dining room, sunroom or outside on rear deck and the lawns. Any use of the kitchen, bbq and laundry is by arrangement only with the owners.

Guest access
You can have access to the whole guest house and grounds other than other bedrooms in the house and any room marked "Office" or "Private" on the doors. If you need access to computer, printer or scanner in the office, this can be done by arrangement with your hosts.

Other things to note
The Penthouse Suite is about 28 sq. m. and is our largest room and has a direct window view of the Bass Strait. The Suite has a large ensuite bathroom with a large shower with raindrop shower head with great water pressure. It doesn’t offer a spa bath when booked on its own. To have access to the spa bathroom you would need to book the deluxe family suite or the whole floor suite. The decor is AAA accredited 4 star quality . The suite can be configured either as King bed plus sofa, 2 single beds plus sofa or 3 single beds if you use sofa bed. You need to tell us at time of booking what configuration you want. Maximum occupancy is 3 people and we charge extra $25 for the third person. The weather in this area of Tasmania is variable, so you may need to bring a change of clothing to suit these weather changes. The average daily temperate ranges between 10-20 C. Penguin has a Commonwealth Bank branch and ATM. You can also get cash out at the newsagent and at the two IGA stores.

Close to shops, bus stop, post office, bank and just 15 minutes drive from Burnie and Ulverstone and 30 minutes from Devonport. Penguin is the ideal location from which to explore the beautiful NW of Tasmania. You will have your private room key and a 4 digit code will be given to you for front door access to the guest house. Please note that Airbnb classifies us as a B&B but we are in fact a guest house. We do offer fabulous breakfasts both continental and cooked but we charge $10 and $15 respectively for them. The booking price is for standard occupancy of 2 people. If you want a third person included we charge extra $25.

When you book this room you will have access to our downstairs dining room, sun room and rear deck and lawns. You will have free secure on site parking. Access to and use of the downstairs kitchen, laundry and BBQ is by arrangement with owners only and terms of use will apply.

Other things to note
Please note that the standard configuration of the room is King bed for single person or couple. We can split King into two singles if you request this when booking. We can make up sofa bed for a third person if you request it but we charge an extra $25 to do this. We have straight forward Guest House Rules that we will show you on arrival and a copy is in your room. We will request to hold your credit card number and expiry date on file as security until you've checked out and we have inspected the room. We require this due to mini bar items that require payment and because some guests have left our room in poor state leaving us to incur additional cleaning costs. All this is covered in our house rules.

The property is located close to the Penguin Mtb trails as well as walking tracks within the Dial Range. The town centre is within a walking distance of 2.5kms, albeit a steep walk home. Enjoy the coffee shops, eateries, boutique shops, or a stroll along the Coastal Pathway. If cycling is your thing, we've got some great scenic roads to ride on.

The space
Modern two storey self-contained unit boasting a queen bed and ensuite upstairs. Cooking, dining, and relaxing you'll find downstairs. Most suited for couples, but there is a pull out sofa bed downstairs if required. There's a deck out the front to sit and enjoy the stars, the peace, and the wildlife. No TV sorry, it's nice to live without one of those every now and then. Feel free to use the wood BBQ and have a wander around the garden.

Guest access is to the two storey self-contained unit, decking, and acreage. Please be respectful of occupants in main house. Work sheds are strictly off limits. Feel free to wander around to the front lawn, sit on the steps and watch the wallabies grazing of an evening. Bring your fruit and vegetable scraps and you'll have friends for life. (NO BREAD). You best be quiet though, otherwise you'll just be looking at grass and plants.

Other things to note
Strictly NO SMOKING indoors. Smoking is permitted in the designated "Smoking Area" in the carpark. Please extinguish butts properly in the ashtray provided.

Due to being on a septic tank, please only flush toilet paper down. A rubbish bin is provided for all other products.

The main bedroom has a queen bed and is a very sunny room. The second bedroom is a single bed, suitable for both children or another adult, and has space for a port-a-cot to be set up. Both rooms have built-ins, very comfortable mattresses, and luxury bedding.
The unit has a full-sized bathroom with shower, vanity, toilet, washer and dryer. Relax in comfort, space and style in our living and dining areas with our well-equipped kitchen, set up to cater for all your cooking needs.
You will also enjoy our sunny deck where there is a BBQ for you to enjoy, and a vegetable and herb garden.

Car parking is next to the front door, the apartment is all one easy flat level, the driveway is shared with the main residence, however the unit itself is a separate building and is very private and quiet.

"Castella" is a self-contained, sunny unit in the picturesque seaside village of Penguin. The inviting deck overlooks the leafy Hiscutt Park with water views out to the Bass Strait. It is an easy short 5 minute walk to the town centre. Holiday makers staying at Penguin are well positioned for day trips to Cradle Mt, Stanley, Launceston and Burnie.

While all guest rooms are located on the first floor, we invite guests to use the ground floor facilities being dining room, lounge, sunroom and rear lawns, deck, gazebo with tables and chairs and bbq. Use of the downstairs kitchen and the outside bbq is by arrangement only with the owners and there may be an additional fee charged. We also offer laundry services for an additional charge of $20 for a small load and $30 for a large load.
