We hope this room will give you the same level of rest and refreshment as its past lodgers.

#birdhousestudiostas are two modern unique architectural, one bedroom houses hovering on a steeply sloping site with extraordinary views to the east over Launceston and the mountains beyond. Each studio has an individual personality inspired by the qualities of its site and a desire to create a sustainable buildings with the lowest possible carbon footprint and environmental impact. This accomodation will appeal to those with a design interest in architecture.
The space
Located on a steeply sloping site that most would put in the too hard basket for construction, these buildings instead take inspiration and delight in the complexity of the site and in the natural world that surrounds them. Footings stand on weathered dolerite rock in faceted Cor-ten form work. Grounded pathways and hovering steel framed decks lead to the entry of each studio. Beneath these elevated pathways and buildings an abundance of wildlife; including echidna s, wallabies, skinks, blue tounge lizards and many unique Tasmanian birds are free to roam. Outside the materials of the buildings reflect nature, they are complementary in colour and texture. The rusting Cor-ten cladding, refreshing its patina every time it rains, matches the bark of the large eucalyptus trees. The natural stonework provides habitat for many local lizards and the proximity of the buildings to the trees allows for a perspective on nature that is usually reserved for birds and wildlife. Inside the studios are an example of a tiny house; smart, comfortable and with no concessions on quality or luxury. Each studio contains a full kitchen, generous bathroom, laundry facility, built in study space, bedroom, sitting space, lounge & dining area. The warm, crafted, tactile and relaxed interior space is finished in sustainable materials such as natural cork and Tasmanian oak timber linings. The cork insulates and is free from synthetic resins, chemicals or harmful materials and a 100% sustainable and the Tasmanian oak linings are finished in an aromatic natural Organ oil finish. The buildings are filled with a collection of contemporary architectural books for those with an objective is to sit back and relax in luxury.
Guest access
There is a car parking space in the driveway for each studio.
