The location couldn’t be beat - we walked everywhere with the gorgeous lake in front, the gardens to the left, surrounded by shops and restaurants. The free valet parking was easy to use, but we really didn’t need a car. The hotel itself is historic but comfortably luxurious with high ceilings and oozing character. We enjoyed the lovely parlor, which is a living room open to the small cadre of guests staying at any particular time (there are only 5 rooms in the main building). We met some other families during the evening drinks and canapés, which were Included in our stay, and I used the space for some work video conferences during the morning hours, when I did not want to disturb my family sleeping in our room. Overall, Eichardt’s was warm and comfortable. Service was outstanding and we didn’t want to leave. The main picture on the hotels.com Website shows a hot tub, which is belongs to the penthouse room and isn’t open to anyone else. A bit misleading since you don’t need your swimsuit, but everything else here was phenomenal. We will be back!"

This is our sleepout located next to our family home. It is artistic and peaceful. It is nestled within a 1 ha property with established fruit trees and many things for families to do and play. The sleepout has a separate wash space/kitchenette and bathroom, about 7 metres away from the sleepout. The beach is right opposite the house and Mapua is a 5-minute drive.

It's an ideal space to land into before and/or after a hike in the Abel Tasman, which is only 30-40 minutes away from us.

The space
Our lovely sleepout is located right next to our forest. We have lots of Tuis, Kererus and other birds.

The sleepout has queen size bed, a desk, a drawer.

Bathroom and kitchen are separate from the sleepout, about 7 metres. They are part of the main house but we don't go there. A door that can't be opened separate that area from the rest of the house and our guests have private access, so we don't share the space in any way.

Have this little piece of Catlins paradise all to yourself, all dogs are welcome (the dog-less are welcome also!) The hut is on an otherwise empty one acre stock-fenced section so there's lots of safe running room for your fur babies. With stunning coastal views, its cute (10sqm), its warm, it has power (but no plumbing) and its close to lots of Catlins attractions and a 3 min drive to Owaka and the supermarket. Pups are welcome to sleep inside and there are two kennels if preferred.

The space
Chill out on the deck and absorb the stunning views with a hot or cold beverage in your hand and your dogs at your side after a day spent exploring the beautiful Catlins. The hut sits alone on one acre of grass (there is no main house) so it's private and there's lots of space for your dogs to run around. I've set the hut up to be affordable and appeal to those who, like me, enjoy the outdoors and don't mind getting back to basics. I know its hard to travel with pups and so I welcome all well-behaved dogs (staffies are my favourites!) including large breeds. I have three heading dog crosses.

The hut is also suitable for those who need to get away to concentrate on writing. There is a foldaway table that can be set up like a desk and there is enough room to leave it up while you stay. A special long term rate (of a week or more) can be negotiated, feel free to enquire.

What the hut has:

A fridge/freezer.
Microwave, electric fry pan, kettle, toaster, portable gas cooker and bottle, coffee plunger.
A water tank that supplies drinking water. There are two 20 litre jerry cans to fill.
Basic linen: bed sheet, pillow cases, tea towels.
All cookware, cooking utensils, plates etc that you might need.
Basics for food prep: salt, sugar, oil, tea.
Wall heater and double glazed windows.
A portable chemical loo that you will need to empty at the end of your stay. I've included a picture to avoid confusion.
One of those cheap camping solar showers (being straight up – it’s a bit shite! See below for more info on showering.)
It's fully fenced with standard stock fencing (see below for more info).
Two kennels

What you will need to bring:

Sleeping bag/blankets
Towels and dog towels.
Dog bed, bowls and water bowls, although there are backups if you need them.
Covers for the sofa and lower bunk if you want the dogs inside.
A torch.

What you need to know:

The best way to describe your stay is "DOC (Dept. of Conservation) hut with luxuries and privacy."

Catlins Inn in Owaka offers showers to the public for $5. Sponge baths are also a good option, as you might do when you stay at DOC huts.

The property has stock fencing so it won't contain escape artists – please see photos. Please be realistic about your dogs before deciding to stay – if they wander onto nearby farms, they will be in danger of being shot as the hut is in a rural area.

You will need to clean the hut when you leave but as its very small it doesn’t take long. This includes emptying the chemical toilet at the local dump station in Owaka. If you want to stay for longer than a few days you will need to empty the toilet regularly throughout your stay. All cleaning materials are provided.

During the summer, the grass is very long as I choose not to graze the land. For long haired canines this may be an issue, although I haven't yet come across barley grass (lets hope it stays that way.) This also means absolutely NO SMOKING due to the fire risk.

The property has a spring and stock trough that is not fenced off, so there is a small portion of the land that has water up to an adult's knees. Please be aware of this if you bring small children. The water is clean and hasn't been a problem for my dogs.

We have neighbours in nearby sections and sound travels easily across the landscape, so its not a party spot.

Note, there's no Wi-fi, but there is excellent mobile coverage.

Guests are welcome to roam and use the entire property. There is no main house, you have the entire section to yourselves.

Transfers can be arranged in the owners Kombi van for a unique experience. Please request this service at the time of booking to check availability.

This peaceful, serene cabin overlooks Nelson with views out to the sea. The end of a quiet cul-de-sac just metres from excellent walking tracks.

The kitchenette
Equipped with a fridge, microwave, dinnerware etc. While there is no sink in the kitchen, a tub and washing up supplies are provided.

The Rayner Cabin is a unique and tranquil getaway, 10 minutes off the Queen Charlotte Track in Endeavour Inlet (4km from Furneaux Lodge) Access is by walking, biking or by boat only. It has incredible sea views! The cabin is a perfect, private place to relax on the coastal walkway for those who enjoy nature. It is 19km from Ship Cove, roughly a 5-6 hour walk depending on your speed and not including stopping times. It is easy to find and well signposted with 'Rayner' from the QC Track.

The space
The Rayner cabin was built by ourselves to suit those who value comfort, enjoy sustainable living and appreciate being surrounded by nature. We are off grid and we value our small footprint on the environment - this is reflected in our facilities. The cabin runs off solar power and water is from rain collection. The outdoor areas are made from mostly recycled and re-used materials and have practical and rustic charm. The cabin, outdoor kitchen and outdoor bathroom are separate buildings joined by a series of steps.

Bedroom/ Living area - 1 queen size bed, and one comfy sofa with a coffee table.

Kitchen area - this includes an outdoor but covered area to cook, sit and eat and enjoy the view. There is a small gas fridge and ice can be provided on request.

Bathroom area - this includes an outdoor but covered area with a composting toilet, sink, and gas hot water shower.

Bikers - we do have an area for basic bike maintenence and cleaning. Basic bike tools are available on request.

Beach - there is a small beach and access to kayaks by request. Please use the life jackets from the house for kayaking.

Boat Mooring - available on request.

Fishing rods - available on request. Catch your own blue cod dinner!

Guest access
The whole cabin area and surrounds are available for your personal enjoyment. There is a nearby shared beach.

The space
The Meditation Studio is accessed via a staircase. It consists of a large, open space with a simple bedroom at the back. The kitchen is very basic but has everything you need including hot water, a microwave, a fridge, a four-burner gas stove (no oven) and utensils for cooking. The bathroom has a shower and composting toilets. Feel free to take a walk around the gardens and find your way to our private stream anytime.

The Meditation Studio is above our workshop and office. We live in another house on the property. The main house on the property is below the studio, and if you are curious, you may be able to visit this unique house built by a New Zealand artist, where my father-in-law lives.

Kick back and relax in this calm, cozy space. 40 minutes Drive from Mt Hutt or Porter Heights ski fields. The Cabin is a 30 minute drive from Christchurch Airport and just 80 minutes away from Arthur’s Pass. A perfect location for those wanting to take a country retreat and head to the mountains. Darfield Village is just 10 minutes away and Oxford township is 15 minutes away.

The space
There are two cabins. The first one is bedroom, lounge and kitchenette. The second cabin which backs on to the first cabin is the bathroom, toilet, laundry with a sink for washing dishes.

There is a lock box on the property details for how to get in are given 24 hours before guests arrive. There is off street parking.

Listen to native bird song, watch stunning sunrises, and stargaze from lovely Pi Honi cabin, at Ao Marama Retreat.

The cabin itself is a twin cabin (two single bed) of wood construction and built to minimise it's impact on the environment, with enough comforts to make your stay feel like a true escape.

The space
Ao Marama Retreat in Golden Bay, New Zealand is a former Buddhist centre set on a hill amongst 16 acres of Regenerating Native Bush with sweeping views of the sparkling ocean below.

We have view points and bush tracks throughout the property including one that leads down to sweeping Collingwood Beach which is safe for swimming, or just chilling out.

Guests will have access to our lovely Al Fresco Kitchen and Diner - which is kitted out with everything you need to prepare you meals and drinks and enjoy on the viewing platform in the dining area.

As well as the toilet and shower building - guests can use our famous 'Loo with a view' is a composting toilet which is great for the environment and let's you enjoy that superb view while doing the do.

Everyone is welcome on our wooden viewing deck for relaxing, enjoying an aperitif and enjoying the stunning sunrises.

During your stay
We live in the main retreat building a short walk from the Cabin and are available for help when you need or happy to leave you to enjoy the peace.

Rest, relax and restore in this calm and cosy space. This brand new off grid cabin is the perfect peaceful retreat. Allow the rays of the sun and the fireplace to warm you up while you have a cup of tea and read your book. With views into established trees and further down the beautiful Motueka River Valley and surrounding hills. The cabin is run on solar power. The water is heated with a gas califont. The composting toilet and shower is in a small wooden shed 3 meters away from the main cabin.

The space
There is a double bed with a high quality organic latex mattress on top of the loft bed. The loft bed sits 1.7 meters above the ground with no barriers around it. It is accessible via a simple wooden ladder with no handrail.

There is a sofa/day bed underneath the loft bed which can be used as a single bed for a third person. The kitchen, lounge and sleeping are all in the one 20sqm cabin. There is no dining table nor chairs available. There are also no curtains or blinds installed. In summertime the cabin can be hot and needs to be ventilated using the doors.

The shower and composting toilet are in a separate wooden building 3 meters away from the main cabin.

Please note there is no Wi-Fi available and cellphone reception can be patchy at times.

The kitchen has a simple double gas burner, small oven and a 90Ltr fridge. There is no dishwasher, no coffee machine and no freezer.

This is a private off-grid tiny home in a rural country side setting. It is simple and basic. This is NOT a hotel. I make all efforts to provide you with a tidy and hygienic space, however if you have high standards of cleaniness and feel squirmish about bugs, dust and dirt please choose a different accommodation.
