Perfect snow-capped mountains grab those skies! our fully restored traditional warm and cozy Kiwi home is set in a mature garden and has all modern amenities. We are close to ski fields, jet boating, golfing, white water rafting, horse riding, hiking, and short walks, mountain biking, rock climbing and bouldering, hot air ballooning, gliding, or the Tranz Alpine train journey (can catch at Springfield). Or if you just need a short relaxing break then this is for you!
Sheffield domain has tennis courts and a seasonal swimming pool less than 5 mins away. Sheffield has a famous pie shop and cafe, Try the Springfield Hotel for an evening meal and take a picture at the giant doughnut in the playpark just opposite the pub.

Darfield township (15 min) has takeaway food outlets, a liquor store, a supermarket, and a hotel for evening meals.
Visit the Waimakariri river (5min) on your way to the Oxford boutique township (20min) it has shops, takeaways, cafes, and an interesting museum. Hiking is also in the area.
Arthurs Pass(90 min) walk up the Devil's Punchbowl. lots of hiking in this area, see the only native alpine parrot in the world left here the KEA.
Visit the castle rocks for bouldering or viewing and the Cave stream scenic reserve. Go to Castle Hill village and walk, or mountain bike the Hoggs Back.
Washpen Falls (30min) is an easy walk that is bush and open country.

Porter Heights ski field (20min), or Mt Hutt ski field (45min).

Rose Cottage - Lake Coleridge Holiday Home offers accommodations in Lake Coleridge, 21 miles from Mount Hutt and 25 miles from Porters. Complimentary Wifi is available throughout the property and private parking is available on site. This lovely cottage is located on a 1/4 acre section in a very quiet rural suburb. It was built in the 1930’s and upgraded in 2010. It gets all day sun, with lots of windows looking out on the large lawn and garden. Enjoy a toasty wood burner in the cosy lounge on winter nights.* We are located 15-30 minutes to many wilderness recreation areas and ski fields, and one hour to the national park. The house is well off the main road, so no traffic noise! It is within walking distance to all local businesses, including 2 lovely cafes and a great country pub. Springfield weather avoids the heavy rain of Arthur's Pass and the cold easterly winds and fog of Christchurch, whilst still being only one hour or less from both.
*Woodburner not available December-March due to fire season

Occasionally I will be staying with my dog in the sleep out at the front of the property, but you will have full private use of the house, lawns, deck and drive (dog is only led in and out of property on a lead and doesn't bark.)

Take some time out & enjoy a stay at this stunning recent build located in an outdoors paradise. Simple but practical you will find everything you need when returning from an adventure-filled day. 5 ski-fields providing a variety of terrain are all within a 1/2 hour drive. World class bouldering is only 5 minutes away at Castle Hill scenic reserve, or if you are wanting something a little more mellow then a walk around these same boulders will have you in awe.

The space
The house is light and airy with windows galore to let the sun in and capture the unique landscape of the surrounding ranges. Being new it is fully insulated and double glazed. The builder had a blast trying out some cool interior finishing techniques to set this place apart from the crowds. Open plan living and kitchen makes it an ideal space for kicking back and relaxing. In the cooler winter months the log burner easily keeps the house toasty warm.

Bedroom 1 is located off the hall. It has a queen bed with a wardrobe and storage space for bags.

Bedroom 2 is found upstairs off the large landing area. Spacious and airy, it can sleep up to 4 with one queen bed, a single and a pull out mattress/futon.

Please note that the village is over an hour's drive from Christchurch, so please make sure you stock up on groceries and other supplies before you escape the rat race. There are no supermarkets in the area, and it's a 20 minute drive down to Springfield to refuel.

Cleaning fee added, no need to self clean (have secured regular cleaner).

For bookings made before 30th January 2025:
The house works on a traditional kiwi bach self-clean basis due to our remote location and difficulties organising a regular cleaner (our lovely neighbour kindly takes care of the linen). However, if you'd like to keep the holiday vibes going and would rather not clean at the end of your stay, please let me know and I can organise a cleaner for an extra fee of $75 (with plenty of prior notice I can arrange for a cleaner to travel). We like to give our guests the option as we know all those added fees do creep up! We just ask that guests leave the house as they would hope to find it :) All cleaning products are provided and you don't need to worry about washing linen.
