World class bouldering can be found by driving 10 minutes east of the village to Castle Hill (Kura Tawhiti) scenic reserve. If you are wanting something a little more mellow then a walk around these very same boulders will have you in awe. Or during the summer months if you're feeling a little more adventurous you could check out cave stream 5 minutes west of the village. There is even a rustic golf course across the road.

Welcome to our little slice of paradise - Torokiki - set in the foothills of the Torlesse Tussocklands between the Kowai Bush and Lord's Bush reserves, near Springfield.

Torokiki (meaning to sprout afresh, re-establish, regrow) is the perfect place to wind down, read a book, walk through the bush reserves, or explore the wider area. The Waimakariri River, Mt Oxford, ski fields and walking and MTB tracks are all close by, while central Christchurch is only an hour away.

At the bach you'll find super-comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen with complimentary tea and plunger coffee, gas hob and outdoor pizza oven, wood burner. well-stocked bookshelves.

There's a TV with DVD player with some old favourites to watch, or play one of the many board games available. There's no wifi available so bring your smartphone for internet access - One NZ and Spark coverage is reasonable.

The bach, sleeping up to 8 in 2 doubles and 4 single bunk beds, is a separate, private wing attached to the main house, with the owners who are very quiet and private.

Welcome to our home in the fantastic area of Lake Coleridge Village. A little more than an hour from Christchurch, 'Our Bach', is a place to relax and reset.

The Lake Coleridge area offers natural beauty alongside many outdoor activities. With a number of ski fields within easy reach and a world class golf course just down the road at Terrace Downs, you won't be short of things to do! There are also more leisurely pursuits including fishing, trekking, jet boating, hunting or just simply taking in the view and fresh alpine air. A deep-water lake stocked with trout and salmon, and arguably one of the best salmon fishing rivers in the country. You will undoubtedly leave knowing that the Lake Coleridge area is a special place.
As this is our family bach, please look after it and leave it as you found it. Otherwise, relax and enjoy!

If you wish to venture further, Methven is 45 minutes away and also provides access to other attractions including Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa.

If you are looking to head to Mt Hutt for some skiing, we are 56km or approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes from our bach to the skifield carpark.

It is worth noting that there is no public transport, shops or restaurants in the village. The closest shops are in Darfield or Methven.

- "A week in castle hill with our family in winter. somehow the photos don't quite do it justice - the main living area is stylish (tho furniture not so much) and welcoming. the upstairs is good with overflow space in the loft for teenagers who want to spread out. wooden floors make it a bit noisy. the house warms and holds its heat well. the carport under the house keeps ice off the car windscreen. the kitchen is well appointed tho the oven confusing. one gotcha is no microwave for those used to one, and take some power boards if you have as many gadgets to charge as we have. there are only 4 bar stools around the kitchen bench and no dinner table. wifi worked well - essential for our kids. we'd definitely stay again - thanks!"

A great base for the outdoors. You are close to great mountain bike and walking tracks, rock climbing and skiing in the winter. This is a warm and cosy house in the winter and has a BBQ and outdoor seating to enjoy some sun in the summer.

- "Perfect weekend in Castle Hill village, modern house with beautiful view, just sit in the couche and watch the sunlight on the mountains" - "Lounge was relaxing, fire was lovely. Pillows and sheets were not sanitised between guests but they were washed. Unfortunately, the duvet and sheets upstairs smelled like vomit. The sinks and bathrooms hadn't been cleaned properly and smelled a little sicky, obviously the guests who stayed before us had a virus. We developed noro virus 2 days after staying at the property, due to it not being bleached properly. But, the host was a very nice person so who knows if they were told. They may not have picked up on the sick smell like I did. I wouldn't stay here for several months until the noro has become inactive. House is well worth staying in but ensure cleanliness from host before entering. There was toothpaste on the mirrors and taps so I felt like I was cleaning up after others and couldn't relax. There was dirty laundry in the washing machine and a bucketfull of dryer fluff in the laundy and downstairs was very dusty. I have been told the dryer will be replaced. We received a message a couple of hours before giving entry instructions but also advising us that we had to clean the house. This should have been stated on the main listing. I advised the owner that the upstairs duvet inner that smelled like vomit needs to be replaced and that we got sick but received no reply. Also advised old yellow pillows need to be replaced. "

- "A very relaxing environment with an impressive apartment at its centre. Excellent kitchen, spacious lounge, comfortable bedrooms. On the down side;- - access from the carport down steps to the entrance carrying luggage can be a problem for elderly especially it the weather is not playing fair. - 2 lights in the hallway were not working making it difficult to use the great laundry setup. The lint collector needs to be checked after each occupation as it was packed full when checked prier to use. - Need clearer instructions on how to work the DVD system through the excellent TV ( pitty no sports channels ) But look - just pull the curtains and wallow in the vista outside. to watch the sun easing its presence from pink to full sun on the mountains over the river valley more than compensated for the minor 'downers' above. We wallowed, thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and never played a round of golf ! Will return. Thankyou. -"

As you enter, you'll be greeted by a tastefully decorated interior that exudes warmth and charm. The house features two bunk rooms, each equipped with two sets of bunks, perfect for accommodating larger groups or families. Additionally, we provide a portacot for our little guests and two queen-sized rooms for added comfort and privacy.

The heart of the home is the lounge area, where you'll find an incredible log burner that provides exceptional warmth during the winter months. The double glazing throughout the house and an extra heat pump ensure a comfortable temperature year-round. You can relax on the comfortable sofas, enjoying the ambiance created by the crackling fire.

Adjacent to the lounge is a galley-style kitchen, fully equipped with modern amenities and appliances. The kitchen features a large dining table that comfortably seats 12 guests, creating a perfect setting for enjoying meals together and sharing stories. At the end of the dining area, a second sitting area awaits, complete with a smart television and Sky TV. Castle Hill Studio has everything you need after a day exploring the nearby Ski fields, Craigieburn trails, Cave Stream, and Kura Tawhiti Rocks from your doorstep. Spacious, fully serviced, basement studio with its own private entry, with secure bike or ski storage by arrangement. A Black Diamond Mondo boulderign mat is available for our Bouldering guests to hire. While the studio is spacious, it is best suited to 2 people/ 1 couple. Young children can be accommodated by prior arrangement.

The space
Having only recently been built, the Studio is spacious, light, modern and warm. For your ultimate comfort, everything is new! The kitchen is fully equipped, so feel free to cook up a three course meal, and ditch the 2 minute noodles and microwave meals.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to use the BBQ and BBQ table.
There is also a small alfresco table and chairs outside the Studio for guest use.
The laundry is shared with the main house (no dryer).

Other things to note
There are NO shops or cafe's in Castle Hill Village, so please pick up groceries in Christchurch or on the West Coast. We are happy to provide meals with prior arrangement and payment.
We also recommend fuelling your car up prior to traveling the passes, and to check road conditions in the winter.

I don't travel 1.5hrs at the end of each stay to inspect and clean but nor do I charge for that.
There are spider webs and occasional dust bunnies and maybe a few other things that may not appeal to clean freaks. I do my best to ensure I communicate clearly the expectation to clean at the end of a guest's stay but some people clean more rigorously than others. Also please note, I have to say this as a result of some issues I have had managing people's expectations: if you need to use my linen (which you are welcome to) it is on you to wash it at the end of your stay - a bit of a hassle I know, but unless you are prepared to pay an extra minimum $125 for a cleaner to travel up from Springfield and do it for you, then that is part of the deal. Apologies if this isn't for you.

Number 8 is aptly named. It’s resourceful design and interiors reflect all that you require to give you the best possible modern but true kiwi bach experience whilst staying in Castlehill village winter or summer.

The Castlehill Basin provides amazing skiing, biking, walking, fishing, bouldering and rock climbing. 1 hour drive from Christchurch and you will find yourself immersed in an Alpine Mountain environment. Enjoy a good book, jigsaw or board game by the fire or get out amongst it!

The space
Number 8 has all that you require to give you the best possible experience whilst staying in the village winter or summer. Underfloor heating driven by solar means you will never arrive to a cold house in the winter and the house is well positioned for lots of light but will not overheat in the summer months.

We have plenty of wet weather options such as games, books and jigsaws for you to use and a good selection of children's toys. Downstairs you enter the house through our boot room/ porch great for storing and drying all the outdoor gear. At this level there are 2 double bedrooms (one with a queen bed and the other with a double bed and a single bunk) offering versatility for our guests. Head on through the shower room/ laundry and you can pop out through the back door to our neatly tucked away outside bath..ideal for the children!

In the spacious light filled main room at the front of the house we have an open plan kitchen/ living / dining with views out of every window. The Torlesse Range looks particularly spectacular at Sunset.

Sliding doors out to a brazier, BBQ and outside tables and chairs creates a perfect spot to unwind and re-live the days adventures in the summer. In the winter you can cosy up inside by the log burner.

Upstairs on our mezzanine we have a second sitting spot with TV screen and Apple TV where you can choose to hook up to your favourite shows. Behind this is a very roomy third bedroom with 4 single built-in beds.

Pets are welcome. We only ask that you respect our belongings and keep all animals downstairs and off the beds and soft furnishings.

Other things to note
There are no shops in Castlehill Village. The nearest petrol station on either side is in Springfield (coming from Christchurch) or Arthurs Pass (heading to the West Coast).

The best option is to shop in Darfield Four Square before you head over Porters Pass or if coming from Greymouth pick up groceries there.

The space
Open plan living and kitchen makes it the perfect space for kicking back and relaxing! The sun streams into the house all day, keeping the it lovely and warm during the cooler months, while the front sliding doors open all the way up to allow for amazing indoor-outdoor flow in the summer. Perfect for sitting out on the deck and soaking up the sun! In winter the log burner and newly-installed heat pump easily keep the house toasty warm.

The upper level has two bedrooms each containing queen beds with additional single roll-aways, and a landing area with a sofa and single bed. It's the perfect set up for families or groups of friends!

The main bathroom is located on the upper level with the bedrooms, with the stunningly spacious open-plan central level dedicated to kitchen and living space. A second full bathroom and laundry is located on the lower basement level. The house is fully insulated and double glazed.

Please note the loft area is not for sleeping as the gap between the railing is too large. Please keep any kids from climbing up, as tempting as it may be!

The owners of the home have left some long life food staples in the fridge, freezer and pantry. You are welcome to use the food staples if required but please let us know if we run out so we can stock up.

TV/WIFI:
Wifi is provided. However, please note there is no TV so unplug and enjoy the stunning alpine environment!

CLEANING:
A cleaning fee is included in the pricing and we'll take care of the cleaning once you've checked out. However, if you'd like the option to save a few dollars and would like to clean yourselves that is totally understandable, just send a message before booking and we can arrange to remove the fee from your stay :)

The house has character styling, featuring cathedral ceilings with exposed hand planed hardwood beams. The spacious living spaces are flooded with natural light and fabulous views. The home offers 3 double bedrooms and a large bunk room. There are 2 bathrooms, 1 with a clawfoot bath, shower, separate toilet and vanity the other with a shower and toilet. Making the house ideal for family groups. The bunk room and lounge each have a TV.

The space
While we do provide linen, you will need to make the bunk beds on arrival. The 3 queen room beds will be made. The garage has space to store mountain bikes, skis and snow boards. A table tennis table is also in the garage for guests enjoyment as well as tennis rackets, basketball, rugby ball and a soccer ball. The house is cleaned and sanitized after each booking.

The entire house is yours to enjoy! Plenty of off street parking. The garage is suitable to store bikes, skis and snowboards.

Other things to note
There are no shops at Castle Hill so it is recommended to bring all your groceries with you. The closest town is Springfield which is approximately 20 minutes drive and only sells basic groceries.

If staying in winter please take extra food encase of road closures due to snow. We also recommend fueling your car up prior to traveling the passes, and to check road conditions in the winter.

The village has a ChargeNet Charging Station available.

Built in 2024, this is one of the newest houses in the village. The cabin offers breathtaking views, warm interiors, and easy access to nearby skiing, biking trails, lakes, Cave Stream, and the iconic Castle Hill Rocks.

The space
• Kitchen / Living / Dining:
The highlight of the cabin is the large open plan living and kitchen with high cathedral ceiling. A fantastic space to relax or entertain with family and friends. Relax on the couch by the toasty fire, or around the table in the dining booth, both areas looking out to the mountains with amazing views. Spacious house with extra wide doorways and ramp to front door.
The kitchen is well equipped and includes a Nespresso coffee machine and Bluetooth speaker.

• Bathrooms:
Bathroom 1 (upstairs) has a tiled shower, basin and toilet.
Fully tiled bathroom 2 (downstairs) includes a large bath and shower area with shower rail.
There is a separate laundry with washing machine and tub opposite the downstairs bathroom.

• Bedrooms:
Upstairs there are two bedrooms.
Bedroom 1 has two Queen Beds.
Bedroom 2 is on the mezzanine overlooking the living room and has a King bed.

Downstairs there are also two bedrooms.

• Exterior:
A hardwood deck wraps around the North-East aspect of the house, allowing easy indoor / outdoor living on the warmer days.
A long stone driveway which wraps the South-West aspects of the house allows plenty of off-street parking.
A tap / hose is located on the west side of the house (driveway side), for a quick hose down of muddy bikes etc.
The house is surrounded by a bund planted with tussocks for added privacy to the property.

Our house has a large sunny, comfy open plan living space with full kitchen and dining including a commercial coffee machine and log burner. The heat pump has cooling for those hot summer days and there's a ceiling fan.
The living area opens out onto generous decks with outdoor dining and BBQ area and a hot tub adjacent.
The reserve area alongside has a large lawn for games and activities.

Castle Hill is a charming alpine village set in the heart of the South Island of New Zealand. It's a fabulous place to relax and recharge, and it's just over an hour away from Christchurch. In winter, ski Porters or one of the many club fields, in Summer, hike or mountain bike one of the many epic trails in Craigieburn. It’s a special spot!

Forest Lodge is a 38-bed mountain lodge nestled in native beech-forest 780m above sea level- the perfect for birthdays, retreats, & reunions.
Its prime location boasts access to a new network of mountain bike trails, aswell as some of the best skiing/snowboarding in NZ along the Craigieburn range.
Wake up to the tranquil native bird song each morning, enjoy hot showers, relax in the sunny lounge/dining area & cook in a large fully equipped communal kitchen.

The space
Forest Lodge is comprised of 7 cosy dorm rooms sleeping up to 38 people. There are 6 x 6 bed bunkrooms and 1 x double + single bunk room.

We have a large furnished kitchen with a 6 hob gas burner, gas oven, fridge, and all the pots, pans, utensils, plates, glasses, cutlery etc that you will need to create a meal.
Please note we have NO FREEZER or MICROWAVE due to our off-grid nature.

There are two seperate sex bathrooms, each fit with 2 showers and 2 toilets.

The lodge predominantly runs of solar power however we do have a diesel generator that reheats the hot water, recharges the solar batteries if needed, and sends heat into the bunkrooms for a certain time in the evenings (this varies depending on the time of year).

Please note electricity is limited and there is no charging facilities in the bunkrooms. In the lounge there is a 24/7 charging station for cellphones and laptops however it is a great opportunity to switch off from your devices and reconnect with nature.
