If you are wanting something a little more mellow then a walk around these very same boulders will have you in awe. Or during the summer months if you're feeling a little more adventurous you could check out cave stream 5 minutes west of the village. There is even a rustic golf course across the road.

Welcome to our little slice of paradise - Torokiki - set in the foothills of the Torlesse Tussocklands between the Kowai Bush and Lord's Bush reserves, near Springfield.

Torokiki (meaning to sprout afresh, re-establish, regrow) is the perfect place to wind down, read a book, walk through the bush reserves, or explore the wider area. The Waimakariri River, Mt Oxford, ski fields and walking and MTB tracks are all close by, while central Christchurch is only an hour away.

At the bach you'll find super-comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen with complimentary tea and plunger coffee, gas hob and outdoor pizza oven, wood burner. well-stocked bookshelves.

There's a TV with DVD player with some old favourites to watch, or play one of the many board games available. There's no wifi available so bring your smartphone for internet access - One NZ and Spark coverage is reasonable.

The bach, sleeping up to 8 in 2 doubles and 4 single bunk beds, is a separate, private wing attached to the main house, with the owners who are very quiet and private.

Welcome to our home in the fantastic area of Lake Coleridge Village. A little more than an hour from Christchurch, 'Our Bach', is a place to relax and reset.

The Lake Coleridge area offers natural beauty alongside many outdoor activities. With a number of ski fields within easy reach and a world class golf course just down the road at Terrace Downs, you won't be short of things to do! There are also more leisurely pursuits including fishing, trekking, jet boating, hunting or just simply taking in the view and fresh alpine air. A deep-water lake stocked with trout and salmon, and arguably one of the best salmon fishing rivers in the country. You will undoubtedly leave knowing that the Lake Coleridge area is a special place.
As this is our family bach, please look after it and leave it as you found it. Otherwise, relax and enjoy!

If you wish to venture further, Methven is 45 minutes away and also provides access to other attractions including Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa.

If you are looking to head to Mt Hutt for some skiing, we are 56km or approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes from our bach to the skifield carpark.

It is worth noting that there is no public transport, shops or restaurants in the village. The closest shops are in Darfield or Methven.

- "A week in castle hill with our family in winter. somehow the photos don't quite do it justice - the main living area is stylish (tho furniture not so much) and welcoming. the upstairs is good with overflow space in the loft for teenagers who want to spread out. wooden floors make it a bit noisy. the house warms and holds its heat well. the carport under the house keeps ice off the car windscreen. the kitchen is well appointed tho the oven confusing. one gotcha is no microwave for those used to one, and take some power boards if you have as many gadgets to charge as we have. there are only 4 bar stools around the kitchen bench and no dinner table. wifi worked well - essential for our kids. we'd definitely stay again - thanks!"
