Originally the coach house for the historic Whangaimoana House this little cottage has been converted to very snug accommodation for two people. Tucked in behind the big house the cottage has its own little private courtyard with outdoor table, chairs, and BBQ. The coastal road is ideal biking and the Palliser Bay water is renowned for diving and fishing.

The open log fire is superb, and supplied with an abundance of perfectly seasoned firewood. The fire was even on upon arrival and the cottage was warm and cosy. The gardens are also beautiful and the location of the property is close to Martinborough and Cape Palliser. This made it a great base to explore from. Borders Retreat is a delightful character cottage, situated on a quiet street, tucked away amongst trees with a private driveway for parking.

There are three bedrooms to choose from, the sumptuous mezzanine bedroom, the sunny garden bedroom with french doors out to the garden or the twin bedroom with two single beds. The downstairs bedrooms can be closed off from the rest of the house, leaving the mezzanine bedroom perfectly cosy in the winter with the logburner going.

The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, separate dining area and is just a five minute stroll from the gorgeous cafes, restaurants and designer clothes shops in the town and just around the corner from the supermarket. We are also just a ten minute walk from the new rail trail, which is a lovely walk/biking track for families. Our self-contained compact cabin is well appointed, double glazed and fully insulated. We are on the edge of Featherston town on a lifestyle property with three donkeys (Phoebe, Anna snd Lily), one kune kune pig (Sophie), two fogs (Lucy and Ruby) and a cat (August). The cabin is private from our house and looks out across paddocks to the mighty Remutakas and Tararua Ranges. There is a covered BBQ area and an outdoor bath.

We are a leisurely 10 minute stroll into town (supermarket, famous cheese shop - C'est Cheese, Artisan Baker, cafes, hotels, restaurants and bookshops). - "I grew up in the area, but actually staying *in* Martinborough was a novelty for me. And what a wonderful little home to experience a town that has changed a LOT since I was a kid. First things first: the house is adorable and cozy. We were there in winter, and its central heating kept us nice and warm. We would absolutely stay here again next time we're in the area. We didn't really get to make use of the deck and garden, but I can only imagine that a cup of tea with the birds first thing in the morning would be magical. Everything in town is so compact that talking about the convenience of this home is a bit of a misdirection. Yes, it's very convenient, but Martinborough is very convenient. Nothing in town is far away. It was an easy walk to the square and everything in it. So I'm going to look at the bigger picture: if you take the time to get out of the vineyards, the Wairarapa is an endless collection of wonderful experiences that are all at least 20 minutes away from everything else. It's hardly a burden, but there's a lot of driving rural roads to get anywhere, including home. But after a full day of black sand (Lake Ferry), seals (Palliser), unexpected hikes (Putangirua), it was effortless to roll back into Martinborough and pull up to this little house for a quiet night where we enjoyed the kiwi dip left for us by our host. Everything works, and the house is well-equipped and stocked. A gem of a home."

Go for a walk up the beach, throw a rod into the surf, or swim in the sea or the lagoon which is great for the kids just in front of the house.
Paua and crayfish just in front of the house.
It's only 10 minutes to Castlepoint or the Whakataki Hotel where you can get a great meal or takeaways and a drink.
While you are there you should always walk the lighthouse or for the brave do the castle rock walk.
You can go fishing off the rocks at Castlepoint where the kahawai and gurnard hang out.

Blackbird House is a delightful ‘home away from home’ in the heart of Martinborough, perfect for everyone - couples, family and friends. A three bedroom house on a private sunny sheltered corner section only one block to all that the Martinborough village has to offer - cafes, restaurants, bars and boutique shopping. We are also only a 10 - 20 minute walk to a number of vineyards (and there is four bikes if you wish to go further afield). It’s the perfect location for just parking and leaving the car in the driveway while you enjoy the village and surrounds.

We have an open plan living area. Our sectional sofa is perfect to spread out on with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The large dining room table is great for gathering round for meals or playing games. The living area opens out to the sunny sheltered section.

The bathroom facilities are; a large rain head shower in a separate room, a bathroom that has a spa bath, basin and toilet and a seperate toilet with a basin. Two of the bedrooms have also have basins - providing plenty of places for everyone to get ready for the day or evening out. Hot water is provided by an infinity water system ensuring that you will always have a continuous supply.

The section is fenced and, subject to a small charge ($30 per pet per stay), we are happy to have your dog to stay (please enquire). We ask that they stay off the furniture and beds and that it is not left inside the house unattended unless crated.

For summer entertaining we have a pergola where the larger of the outdoor dining tables sits under - enjoy your meals outdoors and at night under the solar powered festoon lights. There is also a smaller table tucked in a sunny corner. A hammock swings from the pergola to the tree - a perfect spot to read or have an afternoon siesta after some wine tasting. A BBQ is also provided. For winter there is a wood burner with a supply of dry firewood with a heat transfer system ensuring the house is toasty warm. The kitchen has a dishwasher, large oven and fridge providing everything is there for you should you decide to stay in for your meals. We love our coffee and the village has some great cafes but for your coffee enjoyment at the house we have a Moccamaster glass carafe coffee machine for your use. Plunger, instant coffee and tea are also provided together with some other kitchen basics. Free Wifi is also provided.

For adventures further afield to the incredible vineyards, we have four bicycles (and helmets) plus two scooters. With the flat streets and roads it really is a wonderful way to take in the beauty of Martinborough.

Hidden Valley Getaway, more commonly known as "The Winery", was once a working vineyard/ winery, known as the Hidden Valley Vineyard.

The winery building was built in 1999 out of straw bales. Current owners, and your hosts, Bridget and Jono Hartnell (who live onsite) have recently converted this characteristic building into a fully functional, modern and charming house. Spacious in size, this nearly 200 square metre house is the perfect getaway for family and friend groups.

The space
The space consists of 3 bedrooms, a large lounge, a large games room/ second lounge area, kitchen, bathroom, and separate toilet.

Nestled in the Moiki Valley, 10ks from Martinborough and 12ks from Greytown, you will find yourself surrounded by farmland and native bush reserves.

The kitchen is well equipped with a dish washer, fridge freezer, microwave, full oven, and all required cutleries. We provide tea, coffee and sugar, otherwise this is fully self-catered.

We have a new BBQ/ outdoor pergola area for our guests to enjoy. Our BBQ is self-cleaning, so please leave it how you found it.

The two large living areas each contain a TV with free view, Netflix and other smart TV viewings. A pool table and bar area are found in the games room.

We have a selection of board games and outdoor games available for your entertainment during your stay.

Hidden Valley Homestay can comfortably sleep 9 people with the option to sleep a further 2- 4 free of charge (see details below).

Fishing from the reef when the sea conditions allow. Safe family swimming in the lagoon or take to the surfboards. Castlepoint Golf course is only a 10-minute drive away. A well-stocked shop provides the basics and takeaway meals available or dine at the Castle Point Hotel (Whakataki Hotel) adjacent to the Golf club.

Located 50 metres away from the main house with its own driveway and access, the barn is situated on the hills behind Martinborough overlooking manuka trees and surrounding farmland, as well as having incredible views of the Remutakas to the west and north towards Mt Bruce. This is the perfect spot to relax and unwind, to take in the rural landscape, the dark sky and sounds of nature. Martinborough Village is a 10 minute drive from the property and for a small town has plenty to offer in the way of cafes and restaurants as well as vineyards for wine tasting and food options.

There are 2 bedrooms downstairs with a Queen bed in one and 2 singles in the other. Upstairs there is a loft area that has 2 king single beds that can be configured together to make a california king. This loft includes a tv area and a bathroom.

The large deck provides outdoor living, with a bbq and seating to make the most of the summer days and an indoor fireplace to add coziness during the colder months.

The kitchen is equipped for you to make yourself at home, with modern stylish appliances and equipment to easily self cater. A Nespresso coffee machine is available and there are laundry facilities.

We warmly welcome families but please take extra care with your children. The barn is not child proof for example the barn has stairs that although have a handrail are not gated. If in doubt, please contact us for clarification before you book.

Although we have planted lots of trees which will eventually completely obscure the main house, it remains partially visible from the barn.

A gorgeous private oasis tucked away in Grey Street, a short walk to central Martinborough. This lovely 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house along with an adjacent one bedroom cottage with seperate lounge which can act as a 4th bedroom has everything you would need for an amazing stay. A glass fenced pool which is heated to 26 deg in summer (Labour weekend - Easter) and a large games room with a table tennis table and a large TV provides great entertainment for all ages. Gas Hotwater means no one gets a cold shower.

We are rural but with all the benefits of being within walking distance of town, just 10 minutes. We are also located on the road that leads to Woodside railway station. Our home is good for couples or travelers who are looking for a bit of rest and relaxation.

Woodside suite is a semi-attached outside room under our carport which shares the same roof as the main house. It has its own en-suite (toilet, basin, shower).
Guests are welcome to use our home WiFi : password in the room.
Parking is free onsite: please park on the driveway next to the house Infront of the sign, we ask you to please not park in the carport during your stay.

Please, remove your shoes before entering the room.

The rooms access is separate from the main house via a ranch-slider door
under the carport. You will be given a key to lock the room during your stay.

Other things to note
We have a child and he is also keen to help Petra interact with our guests as they arrive or leave. If you dislike children or are feeling especially tired kindly let us know and he won't interfere at all.

A great little place to base yourselves to explore the Wairarapa, 5 minutes walk from the centre of town and a short drive to plenty of vineyards, walks and more. We always have breakfast available for guests, cereal or oats and Oj

A small room with some wardrobe space if needed, has a super comfy queen size bed, no futons round here. has recently been revamped as we didn't think anyone would like the pea green and sliding door it had.

We both work full time but we are happy to socialise, give you some travel advice or share local knowledge.

Other things to note
Bowie is generally our Welcoming party, he’s a Black Cocker Spaniel and super friendly, he’d give you the clothes off his back if he wore any. When we’re not home he will be roaming the property so just be prepared for him to bring you Slothy or Steve, his 2 favourite toys.
