We stayed at the First Light Villa and every detail has been so thoughtfully considered to make your stay feel seamless and special. Lauren and Kim were the most gracious hosts, going above and beyond to take care of us. They drove us into town for dinner and picked us up afterward and offered to pick us up or drop us into town anytime. Hospitality at its finest. We walked into town and back during the day via the trails Lauren showed us. And the villa… just wow. It’s something you have to experience to truly understand. The photos are lovely, but they don’t capture the peaceful energy and magic of the space. It’s serene and calming—almost zen-like. The jacuzzi, tucked into the lush greenery, is an absolute dream. There are two fireplaces—one inside and one on the deck, adding a cozy charm that’s perfect for any time of day. The kitchen was fully stocked with breakfast essentials (and then some): smoked salmon, yogurt, oatmeal, eggs—anything we requested! It was luxury from start to finish. The views are simply breathtaking, and the expansive deck is the ideal spot to soak them all in. The upstairs bedroom is spectacular, with panoramic windows that make waking up feel like a dream. Communication through expedia was non-existent, so luckily they phoned us the day of check in and texted us the code to get in. No messages back and forth worked through expedia website so recommend calling if you need to communicate."

This historic (B rating) homestead has been in the family since it was moved to its current site in 1885. It was run as an accommodation house by my great grandmother Jane Morris, then after her by her daughter-in-law (my grandmother) Kathleen Morris. This apartment was completely renovated in 2016. Feel as though you have stepped back in time as it is beautifully and comfortably decorated in traditional style. It certainly has the WOW factor. Nice and cool in the summer, and cosy and warm in the winter. It is located on the beach front at Opua. Wake up to the sound of sea gulls and stunning views over the Bay. Opua is a very quiet small township, but there is always something happening. Sit on the verandah and watch the activity. Only 100 metres to the car ferry and general store, another 100 metres to the marina and cafe. By road, it is only 5 kilometres to Paihia or Russell. A fantastic walk between Opua and Paihia following the coastal walkway, with other lovely walks only a short distance away. It is also a great starting point for the Opua to Horeke bike trail. Simply the best place for a relaxing, rejuvenating holiday and a perfect location from which to explore the stunning Bay of Islands and the Far North. Our house is warm, and dry, with all day sun, a 7 minute walk to town, to 1 of the many beautiful Bay of Islands beaches and to the ferry over to the quaint and beautiful Russell Village. Only a 30 minute coastal walk to to culturally significant and historical Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

The bed is a Double (188 x 137 cm), and there is cupboard space as well as a suitcase bench for your convenience.

This bedroom is part of the upstairs unit, which is modern and generous so you can have a comfortable holiday here. Enjoy views up the bay and down to Opua from the large decks and open plan living areas. Known as Old Russell, Okiato has its own historical site. From the house it is less than five minutes' walk to secluded Pipiroa beach, Opua car ferry, and boat ramp, and only a short drive to Russell. Get in touch with the host, we are happy to provide local advice on the wealth of activities you can do nearby.

Guests have access to the shared top floor open plan kitchen, dining, lounge and workspace area, as well as the extensive decks, which all feature stunning Bay views.

You are also sharing the upstairs bathroom.

Downstairs is the shared entrance area, and space reserved for the host.

The backyard is used only by the guests and features a gate for direct access to the road, and the shortest way to the beach.

You can park your car(s) in the fishtail opposite the garage, or next to the carport.

This apartment is easy 6 minute walk to shops, cafes, and beaches, and Wharf, set in a quiet setting with bush and birds. Away from the noise of the main street, but so close to all the Paihia amenities. One queen bed in main bedroom and a single in the living area that can be closed off.. Fully self contained with fridge, stove, kettle, toaster and microwave, etc. tranquil setting with birdlife and Bush and a great bush walking track at the end of the road.

Situated in Haruru with spectacular sunrises overlooking Waitangi river flowing out to the ocean, our home is 5 minutes drive to Paihia village or 20 to Kerikeri township… making it a wonderful base for you to explore the beautiful Bay of Islands. You will have a key to your own room equipped with a bar fridge/kettle/microwave and you are most welcome to relax in our lounge. We have a cat and dog that spend quite a bit of time indoors so our place is not ideal if you’re sensitive to pet hair.

The space
I live on the upper level of a two storey home with my arty friend (Doug), my dog and cat (Maia and Kitkat). I spend quite a bit of time away in Auckland, but Doug is always home after 11am (usually painting in his studio) when he finishes his morning bakings at Third Wheel Coffee Co in Paihia (yes he’s a baker as well as an artist). He has a much loved mural on Coutts Ave (near Te Haumi Beach) that you can go snap a funky photo with. Some of the art in the house are also Doug’s. If you like his style of work, he may have a few pieces available for sale in the studio so please don’t hesitate to ask (most of his work is displayed at the cafe where he works so you might like to pay them a visit too… they make the best coffee and cabinet food in town).
