- "The term Luxury cottage is an insult. The pictures are very misleading.This place is so run down. The staff you can tell is trying hard but obviously the owner cares nothing about customer service or being honest. Our "Luxury cottage" had no microwave, no satellite TV and the kitchen and living room were exposed to heat as there are no windows only loose screening that let lots of bugs in. The couch and beds sit on concrete reminiscent of city jail. I realize this property is in the tropics but our place had roaches all over it. Now the kicker they expect you to pay more if you use to much electricity. If you're in the service industry you have to be prepared for tourist who can be wasteful with electricity and while I try to turn lights\AC off when not used you can't punish people for not. It was so bad,I stayed one night on a four day booking and offered to pay for two nights and asked for a refund for two nights but was giving a bunch of bad excuses why my refund hadn't been processed. I gave up. If this place was budget backpackers place I wouldn't have an issue but they claim luxury and charge accordingly so I warn you to not do business with this place."

Situated in the heart of the leafy suburb of Karen; this open-plan, one-bedroom guest cottage is perfect for solo travellers or couples looking for a cosy place to relax.

The property is located less than 1.5km from the Hub Mall and only 2km from the Karen centre.

The space
The Garden Cottage is the perfect space for those looking for a home away from home. All the necessary amenities have been included to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

A comfortable queen-size bed is the only bed available in the cottage, therefore we cannot accommodate twin bed requests.

The ensuite, country-style bathroom features a shower, sink and toilet. Handmade shampoo, conditioner, body wash are provided as well as toilet paper and towels.

There is a dedicated work space off from the bedroom. WiFi is included.

The open-plan kitchen is well stocked with utensils, crockery, cutlery, fridge, gas hob and gas oven, microwave, kettle and toaster. 10 litres of drinking water as well as some tea bags, coffee, sugar, milk, salt, pepper and fresh cut flowers are provided for your arrival.

The lounge area is a great place to chill out and watch t.v (Netflix is included), read a book or play a board game.

The patio area is surrounded by a small garden and has an outdoor dining table and a large swinging chair hangs from the tall fig tree. An outdoor fireplace can be lit in the evening upon request (please bring some firewood with you).

Guests will have full access to this private space. Car parking (covered) is provided on site just a couple of meters from the cottage.

We live on a shared family property and our house rules are very important to us. Please ensure you have read and understood them before booking.

When calling us, please use a regular line as other phone app calls tend not to ring through.

No extra guests may visit the property under any circumstances (unless agreed to in advance).

A house-keeper is available to clean the cottage after three nights. Your bed linens and towels will be changed on a weekly basis (after 6 nights). Fresh towels can be requested for during your stay at an extra fee. Tipping is customary but not mandatory.

There is no washing machine available in the cottage. There is a small jar of hand washing laundry power available next to the bathroom sink should you need to wash anything small/urgent yourself. There is a launderette located at the The Hub Mall down the road and another at the Waterfront Mall should you require one.

Whilst this is generally a very quiet neighbourhood, sometimes there is a potential to hear music/noise from outside of our property. Unfortunately this is beyond our control if it occurs during your stay.

A lovely 1 bedroom house nestled in a serene & sort after area of Muthaiga. The cottage is set in the "green" area of Nairobi bordering the famous Karura Forest. We are located close to shopping malls, hospitals, schools & restaurants. Inside the cottage is an open plan lounge with wood burning stove, kitchen & dinning. The bedroom has a king-size bed & bay window with views over the forest. Attached to the cottage is a garden, perfect to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning.

The space
Hornbill cottage has its own private gate & parking which leads down some stairs & a path through the garden to a stand alone quaint Spanish inspired cottage. Inside there is an open plan sitting room, kitchen & dinning with sky-high ceilings with exposed beams. Large comfy sofas & a cozy fireplace with a wood burning stove are located at one end of the cottage. There is Netflix and Amazon Prime on a flat screen TV & the WIFI is installed throughout the cottage. Please remember to sign out of your account when you leave. There are also plenty of reading books for you to enjoy, please do not take these with you as they belong to the owners. If you wish to take one please speak to me directly. The other end is the kitchen with an attached pantry with fridge/freezer & a side door towards the outside BBQ. Hornbill has a fantastic L-shaped kitchen, that houses all your essentials to feel comfdotably at home. The kitchen itself is well equipped with all cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery you may need. There is a gas stove with gas oven. There is also a toaster, kettle, blender, microwave and stove top coffee maker. The bathroom is located off the sitting room area with a shower and plenty of fresh cozy towels. The bedroom has a large king-size bed, plenty of wardrobe space & a large bay window with amazing 180° views over the indigenous Karura forests & garden beyond. The bedroom also has a large mosquito net for that extra comfort. Crisp neutral bedlinen is guaranteed for that perfect nights sleep after long day at work or journey. Black out curtains in the bedroom are an extra luxury to help with that jetlag or just want to get a few more hours of sleep.
Laundry is included in the daily price. Please inform our house keeper if you would like it done and leave the items in the bathroom laundry basket.
We also have a back up generator in case of power outages. This will automatically come on if there is a power cut and this is done by the night and day watchmen. There may be a few minutes of delay whilst this is coming on, but this is supplied 24/7 in case of power outages.

Muthaiga is located close to all amenities. It is a fantastic neighbourhood for walks with the family or getting that run done which you have missed out of.

Other things to note
The cottage shares the property with the main house but it is completely separate and private to it. On occasion you may be visited by some very friendly dogs. This is only when the owners are there, but it is their holiday home so this is not often. The dogs will of course be kept away, but they may “escape” just so they can come say hi!
