- "The term Luxury cottage is an insult. The pictures are very misleading.This place is so run down. The staff you can tell is trying hard but obviously the owner cares nothing about customer service or being honest. Our "Luxury cottage" had no microwave, no satellite TV and the kitchen and living room were exposed to heat as there are no windows only loose screening that let lots of bugs in. The couch and beds sit on concrete reminiscent of city jail. I realize this property is in the tropics but our place had roaches all over it. Now the kicker they expect you to pay more if you use to much electricity. If you're in the service industry you have to be prepared for tourist who can be wasteful with electricity and while I try to turn lights\AC off when not used you can't punish people for not. It was so bad,I stayed one night on a four day booking and offered to pay for two nights and asked for a refund for two nights but was giving a bunch of bad excuses why my refund hadn't been processed. I gave up. If this place was budget backpackers place I wouldn't have an issue but they claim luxury and charge accordingly so I warn you to not do business with this place."

The latter is ideal for meals (being wary of the monkeys during the day) and for relaxing on the cushioned bench. There is a hatch through to the adjoining kitchen, all perfect for a simple, very relaxed lifestyle. Nicole was very helpful, especially when one of us picked up a stomach bug at a neighbourhood cafe, arranging a hospital appointment and taxi for us. Through her we also bought locally caught fish and a better choice of wine than available at the nearest supermarket. Once the planned splash pool is added Inshallah Cottage will be even more attractive!"

- "It's a beautiful house and amazing pool. Loved it. Everything and the house was great. I was a little disappointed that there was only a half a roll of toilet paper and I had to use tissues I had in my backpack. Thank God I had some. The living room was super hot. No AC and the fans can't even cool that area. The monkeys are insane. The only dining table is outside in the garden and I put my new box of orange juice out there, walked back in the kitchen to grab my food and when I came back out the monkeys ate the box of the juice and drank it. So it's difficult to eat. And what I was most disappointed with was when I came out of the shower the cleaners were standing in the backyard looking at me naked. I had locked the gate so I don't understand why they unlocked it 2 hrs before check out time. Not cool. We were packing our stuff while the cleaners already came in the house. Very uncomfortable and intrusive."

The beach is a mere 30 meters to the left or right of us and has easy steps down to a beautiful sandy and very quiet beach.
Unlike the main Diani Beach we have no beach boys.
Most of the time you will have the beach to yourself.
There is great swimming when the tide is in.
At low tide you can walk for miles along the reef finding many shallow pools to wallow in.

Over the last few months we have witnessed many turtle hatching's on our beach.
Our resident guide is knowledgeable about the location and timings of all these events.
We also have the Starfish Island just a brief walk away and in the opposite direction the famous Tiwi Rock Pools.

If you really wish to be pampered take one of our chef Charles at $15 per day and pay him directly.
Breakfast lunch and dinner.
He can also do your minor shopping chores if you wish.
In addition we have a third party shopping service at $30 with a expansive online shopping list which you can complete and submit.
If you are arriving late or just wish everything to be ready on your arrival you can fill it in and everything will be bought for you and delivered to the kitchen.

Other things to note
Currently Mawimbi Cottage is a BARGAIN due to some construction works in nearby compounds. The works barely affect the cottage and the actual noise is minimal.

Doél was built in 2017 and my family built this cottage to connect us to Kenya. The house is situated in a peaceful tranquil area in Mtwapa close to the beach.
With six rooms, Doél offers guests comfortable interiors and bedrooms filled with coastal tropical light.
Outdoors, the courtyard garden and the rooftop serves a suitable setting for enjoying the summer breeze while having breakfast or relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine.

The space
The Cottage has a large space. Each room is spacious enough for a maximum of two people. Each room as well has a balcony on which guests can choose to have their breakfast there or inside, one can as well enjoy the breeze and the view on these balconies. Moreover we have two living rooms both upstairs and downstairs. Two Kitchen as well. So the space targets large families or groups of people. Also the way the bedrooms are designed offers the option for privacy even within families, while the living room and the Kitchen serves the purpose of connecting people together.

This unit also has a day bed in the living area allowing for an extra bed. Capacity is 5 people. 2 bedroom, one bath unit. Bedrooms have a double bed and the other has two single beds. kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster and cooker as well as all the dishes to make for a comfortable stay. Your unit comes equipped with a smart TV and Wifi . Due to salt water in our area, don't have a water kettle.

we have a baby pool and the main pool which is safe as it is not too deep.

There is a beautiful patio/verandah where you can enjoy the breeze and even dine outside as the weather is normally warm. Unwind here as you take in the breeze.

The space
A lovely and spacious, two bedroom, self catering cottage situated in the heart of Diani. Access the beach in under a minute.

Inspired by Swahili-style architecture and decorated with African artefacts and antiques, this is a unique space to base yourself for some much needed coastal time.

This is one of the few beach-front properties that still boasts its indigenous trees. Monkeys, including the endangered black-and-white Angolan colobus monkey frequently visit the plot during the day; and at night the greater galagos (bush babies) can be heard calling from the tree-tops and are often seen too, if you put out some fruit for them at night! Since we are closely surrounded by forest, you may also encounter monitor lizards, geckos, squirrels and possibly other species that live here.

The house is solar powered, so in the event of a power cut during the day, fans and appliances will still work. Please note that the kettle for making hot water is a whistling kettle and not an electric one. If there is a power cut during the night we will turn on a generator to power the air con in the bedrooms. On overcast days, the solar may not work as efficiently as on sunny days and shower can be slightly cooler than usual.

There are two large spacious bedrooms; one has a king size bed and the other has three single beds - all with mosquito nets.

Housekeeping is provided once a day (mornings). The cottage is booked on a self catering basis, please arrange your own shopping and food supplies. Drinking water is provided by way of a countertop water purifier - please bring your own bottled water if you prefer that.

If you need a chef, we can provide contacts for some freelancers with whom you can discuss rates availability directly. Fresh seafood can all be delivered directly to your door by local sellers/fishermen (please ask your chef/the caretaker to organise this).

Massages can also be arranged with a lady who charges a very reasonably hourly rate. We can provide her contact or help you book. Please do not invite any other masseuses, fishermen, beach vendors or any unregistered guests on to the property at any stage. Thank you

The cottage has a thatched Swahili style roof to keep you cool, along with open window spaces and shutter doors. Relax by the pool in the tranquillity or enjoy a pleasant stroll down to Tiwi beach. Have a BBQ in our BBQ area and swim in the illuminated pool under the stars. Tiwi, is on the South coast of Kenya which has a tropical climate. Because of this we do have dudu’s - more commonly known as insects! Tiny ones and bigger ones! There are some that crawl and some that fly and they may visit you in the cottage at times. We have a beautiful garden that we hope is as eco friendly as possible and along with it comes the mini wildlife that we all love. Bushbabies (Galago's), maybe a monkey or two, reed frogs and beautiful coloured dragonflies. We hope you enjoy seeing the wonderful aspects of nature that only tropical Kenya can offer.

Cottages are self catered, as in you bring all your own food and drinks and other small things you personally require. We can arrange your first nights shopping for you (at a small fee and will provide receipt) Or you stop at one of the larger supermarket chains located on the way. The cottage comes with a basic cook/cleaner who is there for you 8 hours per day. (If you keep our staff over the 8 hours we ask you to pay them for the extra hours. We also ask you to pay for a motorcycle taxi for our staff if you keep them after dark.
