The space
The property is north facing with a view across the valley towards Uplands school and the well-known White River landmark of Legogote. The local airport is KMIA (Kruger, Mpumalanga International Airport), and it is a 20 minute drive from the airport to the Cottage.

Hobbits Cottage is part of a larger farm building on an 8 hectare property of natural bush.

The cottage was built as part of an eco-home design project undertaken 6 years ago. On completion this home won awards for its ‘green’ design and structural features. The exterior walls are ‘rammed earth’ in an attractive sandstone hue. The walls were hand crafted using a mix of natural earth sourced locally, with a small percentage of lime mixed in for binding.

The entire property is a bird-watcher’s paradise, and there are often sightings of small wildlife. Guinea fowl are often heard in the early mornings.

The property has its own borehole which provides water for all purposes, including drinking.

The cottage includes an open plan living/dining/kitchen area and a small lounge with TV. Wi-Fi is provided. The furnishings are comfortable, and the ambience is cosy and inviting. One bedroom and bathroom is downstairs, and a wooden staircase leads upstairs to two more bedrooms, a toilet, and an en-suite bathroom. There is ample cupboard space for clothes to be packed away.

Please note that as this is an enviro-friendly house there are no baths, only showers, and as such there is no swimming pool.

All lighting throughout the house is low-energy. There is extensive outdoor lighting outside the cottage, some of it movement activated, and the house is secured with beams and an alarm system which is connected to a local armed-response security company.

The cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The main bedroom has 1 double bed and a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a large soak tub, a large walk-in shower, and a basin. The second bedroom has 2 single beds and an en-suite bathroom as well. Both rooms are fitted in fine linen and both bathrooms include soft towels. An additional mattress can be supplied for an extra child.

The kitchen is fully-equipped for self catering including a microwave, stove, oven, fridge-freezer and tea- and coffee- making facilities. The lounge area includes plenty of comfortable seating, a coffee table, and a flat screen TV with DStv access. The cottage is exceptionally private with its own entrance, covered veranda, 2 bedrooms (one double and one king / twin) sharing a bathroom with double shower, TV with Family DSTV package, functional kitchen, braai / bbq and covered parking. The property is surrounded by an electric fence. All linen, towels, cooking utensils, basic pantry ingredients and wifi internet are included. Please be advised that there are dogs on the property. Check in is from 3pm to 6pm on day of arrival and by 11am on day of departure.

Other things to note
1. In this time of load shedding / rotational blackouts, we want our guests to know that we have done everything possible to keep the power on! The cottage has a gas oven, hob and kettle, a Webber braai, gas geysers for hot water and a battery back up / inverter system that easily sees us through Stage 4 load shedding with lighting, WiFi, DSTV and all plugs if used wisely.

2. For those not familiar with self-catering, it simply means that you go shopping and then cook your own meals! If you don't want to cook there are a selection of good restaurants within a 15 minute drive of the cottage.
