- "I hate leaving negative info but for the benefit of future travelers, I have to be honest about a few items with this property: 1. It was absolutely buzzing with flies inside. There was spray and a fly swatter inside which indicates this must be a known issue to the property manager. It made our short stay very uncomfortable. 2. This is not a hot tub, it is a swedish bath. It was ice cold on arrival and would've taken hours to warm up to a useable temperature. That might've been ok but we were only there overnight and booked this unit thinking this would be a hot tub (as listed) and useable immediately after a long drive. 3. I can't imagine how this unit would sleep 5 people. There was one king bed and a couch. 4. Description indicates "You'll have the entire home." This is misleading especially with the photo labeled "aerial view". Yes, this unit was individually enclosed and unshared, but it is an add-on to a larger home which you had to walk behind in order to access this apartment. Beautiful area- quite a drive. The terrace was lovely and the theater room was unique."

Semi-detached house (if you are in front, left part, with glass door) of an old Ticino stone house in an exclusive location near Locarno, quiet and well developed. Here you will find old Ticinese charm that is so hard to find in the area, yet still able to relax in a well-kept and relaxed atmosphere. Since the house is on the hillside, you should not shy away from stairs. All rooms are south-facing with views of Lake Maggiore and the mountains opposite. The nearly four hundred year old house is renovated, furnished in style and can be centrally heated by a stove. The kitchen leads directly onto the south-facing terrace with views as far as Cannobio. The bedrooms and bathroom are accessible from the back of the house. The bathroom is equipped with high quality and electrically heated. In each bedroom there is a double bed (200 x 180 cm) with two mattresses (200 x 90 cm each, two blankets each with a standard size of 200 x 135 cm). Above the garage there is another terrace where you can admire the panorama in the evening for a long time in the sunshine. The spacious garden is maintained regularly, so that you are surrounded from March by colorful flowers. Behind the house you can retire on a large lawn. In just a few minutes you are in the center of Brione with shops and nice restaurants. It takes about 10 minutes by car or 30 minutes to walk to Locarno. The nearest bus stop is about 200 meters from the house. The picturesque valleys of Ticino can be reached quickly by car. There are countless hiking trails in the immediate vicinity. In spring you can enjoy the camellia and magnolia bloom at a time when it is still gray and cold in the north. Autumn is often warm for a long summer, so you can ignore the winter and the cold for a while on walks or while bathing.

We did a lot of walking, swimming and visit several villages. Within 15 minutes we weten in Italy and visit a nice market. I responded yes (I didn't pack towels and sheets for my European vacation) and I was charged €50+ for one set of the skimpiest towels and one fitted sheet. I informed the owner that it clearly states towels and linens provided, but she went ahead and deducted the amount from my deposit anyway."

Sit on the sun-drenched, outdoor veranda, perhaps enjoying a glass of locally-produced wine, while taking in the sights and sounds of wildlife and wilderness. Above you, a pair of buzzards circle. On the hilltop, a deer wanders by. Families can let children explore and discover in complete safety. The cottage itself has one double bedroom, with doors opening onto a small balcony, overlooking the meadows and the view beyond.
The second bedroom has a single bed that opens up to a double bed. Once the bed is opened up, there is no room around it, but it's always loved. The room is well lit and there is even the possibility of opening the door that overlooks the garden. Should children prefer to have their own room, there is a possibility of adding a second mattress on the office floor.
There’s a double sofa bed in the living room if needed.
The third room is set up as a mini office environment with a desk and chair. There are English books available.

The house is small, so even if there are many sleeping possibilities know that the areas are not that big. The bathroom is also small and is the only one in the house, but the shower is large. The living room has a log fire and there is a newly-installed kitchen with full facilities, including dishwasher. There is a boot room, with washer/dryer, leading to the kitchen. There are covered and uncovered outdoor spaces, with a private garden, where you can relax, sunbathe, read a book, sip wine and prepare a BBQ, while watching the sunset over the high mountain tops.

The cottage is surrounded by nature and accessible by car. Ideally you would want to have a car as it's easier to get around and to get to the cottage with your luggage. There is no public transport that arrives directly to the cottage. A bus service arrives in the village of Fescoggia, which is 5 minutes by car or 20 minutes walking distance from the cottage.

There are many hiking trails around the cottage and you can spend all of your time in nature. If on the other hand you are interested in visiting other places, ideally a car is again the best option. Public transport in Fescoggia consists in a bus service that goes to the neighbouring villages or Lugano. In order to get to Lugano, there is one change to make (bus or train). In Lugano there is a rail service, connecting with towns and cities in Switzerland and Italy.

Boat trips from Lugano take you to the fishing village of Gandria, to Monte San Giorgio or Monte Generoso, and to the Liliputwelt of the Swissminiatur near Melide.

Il Maglio - The Maglio del Malcantone forge at Il Maglio is s a truly special place and one of the wonders of this region. You can visit the last trip hammer still operational in Switzerland and be sure to ask the caretaker for a guided tour, before taking a plunge in the pond.

Monteviasco (Italy) - Curiglia con Monteviasco is a town in the northernmost reaches of the Varese province, on the border with the Canton of Ticino. The town is perched on a hillside, founded by what were once two municipalities, Curiglia and Monteviasco. In the past, the only way to access the hilltop village was to climb the long staircase of 1,400 steps. Today, the area is also accessible from a cable car that was opened in 1989. The characteristic architecture of the old town centre, which dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, consists of stone houses, wooden balconies and roofs in traditional flagstone. Even the original stone paving, known as "rizzata", has remained intact for about 200 years. An important cultural and historical landmark is the "masso di Piero", a large boulder which takes its name from the town where it is located. This boulder is marked with numerous engravings, figures, symbols and words dating back to the pagan era, which were later replaced by floral crosses when it was used for Christian religious practices in the 10th-11th century.

- "Enjoyed a great warm summer stay for 2 weeks in the hills of Lugano. Lovely pool with all day sun and a large garden with multi level terraces and enough shade of large trees, wonderful for our 3 dogs. Only 5 min from the village for groceries and 20 min to the promenade at the lake of Lugano. The house is straight forward with 2 bedrooms, a small kitchen and bathroom, good enough for our family, mostly living outside at the terrace and pool. Enjoyed the nice small garden house with fireplace for the evenings (also when it rained). Private parking within a fenced area so dogs can walk freely. Walked the dogs each morning in the beautiful park with small creek across the road. Lovely, kind and very hospitable owners that picked us up to bring us to he house and assisting us by phone if needed. No WiFi and very limited 3G connectivity available. So not handy to pick up work, but that was not the purpose of our stay. Very fine peaceful place and excellent base to explore the beautiful surroundings of the area within a radius of not more than 1-1,5 hour away by car (like Maggiore or Milan,Italy) Recommend place for families (that have dogs)."

Our country house is an original Appenzell farmhouse newly renovated in 2022. It is located in Speicher in Appenzell Ausserrhoden near St.Gallen in eastern Switzerland. The vacation house offers max. space for 9-11 persons and 1-2 babies. (Ideal occupancy: 5 adults, 3 children +1-2 babies) You stay in the country house with 4 bedrooms, 1. kitchen, 1 washroom / diaper changing room,1 living room and 2 bathrooms (3 double beds, 3 single beds, 1 baby extra bed, 1 baby travel bed, 1 air bed and 1 sofa bed). The house is secluded in the countryside, in the middle of a sheep pasture in the municipality of Speicher. Nevertheless, you are in 10 min in the city of St.Gallen and on the highway. It has parking for about 3 cars and 50m away there is a bus stop. It has a nice outdoor area with slide, deck chairs and hammock for relaxation and with a barbecue area with seating area.

- "The property and location are what anyone could wish for. It is newly renovated and in a lovely location. Kids and adults had many games and an outside swing set to play with. The kitchen had basic things there to get us started. The property and the contact for the place were absolutely wonderful, including finding a ring that was left behind. Unfortunately, booking through VRBO from the USA to using e-domizil (Germany) was terrible.... and I am German. VRBO listed a certain price but when I got to checkout it went through e-domizil which bumped the price by $300 (that didn't include the extra amount for cleaning). At that point during the booking, they don't leave you a choice for canceling and getting your money back. This was the only place for our family function, so I booked and figured this mistake would get sorted out later. It didn't. I think they added cost for additional guests, even though the place is advertised for accommodating between 7-11 guests. We had 10, including 3 children. I went back and forth with e-domizil and they finally punted it to say that it was VRBO's fault. I'm still frustrated. It's sad to not give a stellar review."

In the Val d’Hérens, we rescued the ruins of 6 agricultural buildings destined to be demolished. They were restored in complete respect for local architectural tradition typical to the Valais region.

“2 Raccards” A raccard is an agricultural building made of larch wood beams which stands on wooden posts, based on granite stones to prevent mice climbing up. Families used to store grain, hay and animals in raccards. They would dry the corn in the sun on the balcony for use in winter. The area underneath the raccard used to be a stable for the Hérens cattle.

“3 Granges” A grange is an agricultural building made from larch beams and set on top of a dry stone stable. Families used to store hay in the granges for use in winter with the livestock underneath in the stable. Granges were scattered all over the plains to avoid needlessly having to transport hay. In winter, cows were moved from grange to grange as and when the hay was depleted.

“2 Greniers” A grenier is an agricultural building constructed from larch beams and laid on wooden posts atop granite stones to prevent mice from gaining access. Greniers were a great food store for the entire family – essential to the survival of the mountain population. Normally in the centre of a village, a grenier would be used to store food for several families. Under the grenier, there used to be a stable for the Hérens cattle.

We offer you the chance to experience a short stay in a mountain hut that has been completely renovated and rebuilt by the architect olivier cheseaux.
