The hostel has a nice lobby and lots of amenities (e.g. patio, roof terrace, computer, TV, vending machines, games room). The rooms were clean, with washbasins and tall lockers (you don't have to bring your own lock), but they may not fit a large suitcase. The showers and washrooms were fine, and everything was nice and clean. Just FYI you will need to buy an HI/DJH Hostels membership, but there are different options (1 night, 6 months, 1 year, Pay As You Go). My ONLY complaint was no WiFi in the rooms. I like to sit in bed and work and such, so this wasn't great, since sitting in the lobby to use the WiFi means a lot of background nice from the gamesroom. Also the internet didn't always stay connected that well. But overall the hostel was great, so that's not a big deal really. Thanks!"

The communication, via email and text messages, before arrival with the property manager was very good and the pre-arrival were instructions very clear (albeit some communication was in German). " - "NOT SAFE FOR SOLO FEMALE TRAVELLERS! I booked my trip to Hamburg on a tight budget, so I chose to stay in a shared room here based on cost. I checked in on Thursday afternoon (10/04/2025) and was planning to leave on Sunday morning (13/04/2025), but on Thursday night, before I even went to sleep, a man sleeping in a bed near mine (who I later found out worked at Hostel West Light) started to be extremely inappropriate with me. He repeatedly touched me without my permission, called me his girlfriend and offered to give me a massage while I slept, despite me telling him no every time he said things like this. When I told him I was tired and wanted to go to sleep, he asked if he could sleep in my bed with me. I went to reception to see if there were any other available rooms I could be moved to since I didn't feel safe sleeping in the same room as someone who had acted this way towards me. It was at this point I was told that the man was a member of staff, and because of this the security guard at reception refused to believe me or hear my side of what had happened, telling me "he's not scary". In the end, I had to book a last minute room somewhere else because it was clear the staff working that night had no regard for my safety or comfort."

For your information, I don't live here I run these properties out of economic interest with an intention to win. So please do not be disappointed if I do not have time for common campfire evenings.

The space
Room 17 is in a 7-room apartment in the immediate vicinity of Hans-Albers-Platz. The apartment has 4 single rooms and 3 double rooms. In all rooms there is a TV (cable), a real bed (single bed in the single room and double bed in the double room) and a sink. Inside the apartment there is a communal kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker and fridge. In addition, there are 3 showers and 3 toilets in the apartment. The use of the sanitary facilities is reserved exclusively for the guests of the 7 rooms. One of the bathrooms also has a bathtub. In the backyard there is a small garden that invites you to relax.

Other things to note
The apartment is located in the middle of the neighborhood, in the heart of St.Pauli. Especially on weekends, it is celebrated until the early hours of the morning. Despite double glazing and heavy curtains, it can sometimes happen that a few noises penetrate the apartment when cheerful partygoers on the street sing cheerful songs or sound music from the neighboring clubs and bars. This is inevitable here, but also ensures the own charm of the accommodation. Anyone who wants to spend a quiet weekend in the countryside is wrong here. Nevertheless, it is surprisingly quiet in the rooms to the backyard.
