Our boutique hostel features a charming historic building situated in the heart of downtown Halifax. Granville Hall is an automated, staffless, self-service facility, allowing summer guests to experience the best of Halifax while saving on accommodation costs.

The space
Welcome to Granville Hall! We are a staff-less, automated, self-service property offering affordable stays in the heart of Halifax's shopping, dining, tourism and entertainment district.

We offer several room options on three floors in a charming heritage buildings. There is no elevator in the building, so please make sure you are ok carrying luggage 1 to 3 flights of stairs. We are unable to assign a specific room on a specific floor to any one guest, as all bookings are assigned automatically by our bookings system based on availability.

Please note:

1. Granville Hall is a student dormitory in downtown Halifax, offering dorm-size private rooms to the general public for short term stays during the summer months. We can't guarantee which specific room will be assigned to your reservation. Guests are assigned to rooms randomly by our booking system based on availability, and may be placed in rooms that are different from the rooms depicted in the photos. We don't have photos of every room in the hostel, but they are all similar in size and include the same amenities.

2. There are several shared kitchens and bathrooms throughout the building. Bathrooms are shared by all guests at Granville Hall and maintained daily by our cleaning staff. There are multiple private bathrooms on each floor for guests to access. Each bathroom is equipped with a shower, toilet and sink. We don't provide toiletries such as shampoo and body wash. Towels are provided to each room and fresh towels can be obtained from the linen closets provided on every floor.

3. Granville Hall does not have or provide its own free or paid parking. For more info about parking options, please read below.

4. We are a self-service facility that requires guests to check-in online before arrival or at a tablet kiosk on arrival. There is no front desk and no staff on site outside regular business hours. You must have a suitable comfort with using technology to complete your check-in successfully, including entering credit card information and accessing your email where the door codes will be sent after checking in successfully.

5. Granville Hall does not accept Visa/MC debit or prepaid cards for payment. You must have a regular valid credit card to complete your payment and check-in.

If the type of accommodations described above are different from what you expected, please make sure to cancel your reservation within the free cancellation period to avoid charges.

CHECK-IN TIME AND LUGGAE STORAGE

Check-in time at Granville Hall is any time after 3pm, and check-out time is 11am. If you arrive earlier or wish for later departure, your lobby door access code will allow you to access the common lounge from 9am on your check-in date to 6pm on your check-out date. You can store your luggage in the lounge, use the Wi-Fi network and use the common facilities.

TRIP CANCELLATION AND TRIP INTERRUPTION INSURANCE

We strongly encourage all guests to purchase trip cancellation/interruption insurance if they don't already have coverage through their credit card, travel provider/ticket or existing insurance. Check with your bank, travel agent or online travel insurance providers for quotes, as prices can vary.

No-shows and cancellations received outside the free cancellation period will incur the cancellation fee noted in your reservation. The cancellation fee/penalty is strictly applied in all circumstances and with no exceptions, so we highly recommend that guests be prepared with the appropriate insurance that covers non-refundable hotel fees in cases of unavoidable cancellations.

SELF CHECK-IN

We are a self check-in and self-service facility. You will be able to check-in online prior to arrival, and you'll receive your room number and door access code when you complete your online check-in. If you're uncomfortable or unable to use online check-in, and if you can't find anyone to assist you, you can request to cancel your reservation within the free cancellation period and no charges will be made to your card.

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

For transportation from and to the airport, the Halifax airport’s website has a good list of options to choose from. You can visit their website to review taxi, limo and shuttle/bus options.

We also work with a private shuttle service called Driver Dave’s. Their fee is typically lower than a regular taxi. You can book a pick up directly on their website. You’ll also pay them directly either online or in person upon arrival. Please use Google to search for Driver Dave's website.

PARKING

If you arrive by car and would like information about parking options, please visit our website and click on the Parking page. Granville Hall does not provide its own free or paid parking, but there are several options nearby.

Please don't access rooms and areas labelled as "Staff Only" on the door. Feel free to access and use any common spaces, lounge, bathrooms, kitchens and dining areas on any floor during your stay.
