The beds are comfortable, the view is lovely, and, the beach is easily accessed from the cottages. What made our stay *extra* special, however, was the warmth, wit, and, hospitality of our lovely host. First, he gave us a courtesy call to provide specific directions to the property, then, called us again to let us know about an event happening nearby at the time of our stay, in case we wanted to attend. He is a lovely human being, who seems to genuinely enjoy people. We were very proud to share the beauty of Nova Scotia with our California friends, especially the beauty of the human landscape (-thank you, Colin!). During our stay, the weather was chilly, overcast, rainy, and foggy, but, the warmth of this property’s owner, and the simple, yet, charming accommodations he offers, will bring us back again.- next time, for a longer, sunnier, summer stay."

Bell grew up in nearby Margaree Valley, while I grew up in Toronto and have lived here full-time for 30 years. I built this cottage myself with guests in mind; the result is a cottage that has all of the charm of our original SeaSky cottage, but with excellent amenities, and lots of privacy, right beside the ocean.
There is a rich, strong culture here, historically and musically, and life unwinds at its own special pace. In a week you can really get a sense of the rhythms and charm of Cape Breton.
It's nice to be in a place where you don't need air-conditioning; Cape Breton summers are warm-to-hot in the day, but perfect in the evening, and at the shore there are lovely ocean breezes.
- "Eagles Pass is a dreamy getaway! The cottage itself is greater than any photo can portray. It provided all the comforts one needs plus wonderful views and relaxation. Stewart is a wonderful host and provides great information about the area. Can’t go wrong!" - "Would like to return to this place for sure. Stew was great." - "We really enjoyed our stay here! The pictures are accurate. The views are stunning. Stewart the owner came out the first day and met us and asked us what are somethings we are looking to do and offered suggestions. He made a map and a list for us and we hit everything on the list! At the end of each day we relaxed, cooked a few dinners, watched the sunsets and played family games. We’re from Michigan and had no idea how beautiful Northern Canada is. My husband golfed Cabot Cliffs and really enjoyed it. We also went to Cape Breton Highlands National Park a few days, beautiful! Highly recommended this place to stay!"

This architect-designed cottage is built on a bluff over the ocean and was designed to recall the best aspects of Maritime tradition, but to modernize them with an open-concept interior. It has a summer-y feeling, with a high ceiling, boarded walls and fresh white paint.
Sunsets will knock your socks off. This design is best suited for couples, or couples with one or two children. All on a gorgeous property with 3 large ponds and 2 spring-fed brooks. You'll have a tough time leaving the cottage!
Fishermen haul their lobster traps each year out in front of our cottage. Moose, eagles, deer and foxes are regulars. It's easy to meet people here, and the daily pace here is slower than in most cities. Cape Breton summers are warm-to-hot in the day, but perfect in the evening, and at the shore there are lovely ocean breezes.
- "I cannot begin to describe how truly amazing our vacation was on Cape Breton Island. First, our hosts Stewart and Bell were so gracious and accommodating. Stewart spent over an hour with us going over the many exciting things to do in the area and made dining recommendations that were spot on. It was a very peaceful and relaxing escape for us. There were so many enjoyable aspects of our time here. We would have to include the views from the deck of the cottage as one of the truly memorable parts of the trip. Each night the sunsets were amazing. We very much appreciated the tranquility of the location. The hiking, the beaches and friendly local residents all added to the enjoyment of the trip. This is a rare find and I would happily return any time. I highly recommend this property."

After a long day of exploring Nova Scotia it was nice to sit down and relax for a bit. The downstairs of the cottage was very nice and cool, but we did struggle with humidity and heat in the upstairs bedrooms. Unfortunately, it was extremely hot while we were there and it would have been more comfortable had the weather not been so hot and humid. Bell grew up in nearby Margaree Valley, while I grew up in Toronto and have lived here full-time for 30 years. This cottage that has all of the charm of our original SeaSky cottage, but adds an extra (separate) bedroom.
The Cape Cottage was designed specifically for visitors' pleasure and needs. You will enjoy complete seclusion and incredible views in one of the most spectacular parts of Cape Breton. As day turns to evening in technicolor, relax, listen to music or catch up on things you don't have time for at home.
Chimney Corner beach is one of the finest on the island, and it's mostly unoccupied during the week– in addition to the fine beach and safe swimming for children, there are interesting rock formations to explore nearby. Cape Breton is a spectacular place, and you'll find the scenery on this stretch of coastline particularly striking.
There is a rich, strong culture here, historically and musically, and life unwinds at its own special pace. Although a three-day visit to the Island is not uncommon, it takes more time to really get a sense of the rhythms and charm of Cape Breton. Cape Breton summers are warm-to-hot in the day, but perfect in the evening, with lovely ocean breezes.
- "The house is open and bright, set on a hillside overlooking the coast below. Private and quiet, an excellent getaway. Many local places to visit and explore for hiking, biking, dinners out. We enjoyed live music of the region and nearby Highlands National Park for hiking. Knowledgeable and helpful host." - "The cape house is simply lovely. Sits up on a hill overlooking the water. Sunsets out your window. The house itself has been tastefully decorated and has everything you’d want for a week. It’s a drive to get anywhere but that’s the nature of Cape Breton. Sitting on that beautiful coast gives you access to wonderful beaches, the national park, hiking and music. The host meets you on day one and lays out a map and list of things to do and see, where to eat and where not to eat. He was spot-on with his recommendations. The only issue we had was a booking snafu. After reaching out far in advance we were asked what Friday-Friday dates we wanted. We picked a summer week and was told to reach out in November again to confirm but they’d be saved for us. We did and received a lease for the stay. We signed the lease and planned a 3 week vacation around the rental. What I didn’t notice was the lease was changed to a Sunday-Sunday rental. Same weekends but two days later. This was not pointed out to me. Because of this, we had to leave a day earlier than planned and find other last minute accommodation for two nights when I finally noticed the change months later. I wish he had noted he needed to change the dates when sending us the lease agreement. I wish I had checked the dates on the lease. We wound up paying for a night we couldn’t stay and losing a beautiful day in Cape Breton."

I designed this cottage to have all of the charm of a real coastal cottage, Many folks rent out their seasonal homes in Cape Breton, but the DeepBlueSea Cottage is designed specifically for visitors' pleasure and needs.

- "Excellent stay in this cute and well-furnished cabin. The property is clean and very well-maintained. Stewart was delightful and extremely helpful while respecting our privacy. The cabin is perfect for a couple wanting a place to stay close to the Cabot Trail and other local sights. The view from the porch (when there wasn’t fog), is exceptional. I do recommend an SUV for the steep road up to the cabin." - "Deep Blue Sea is a rustic and charming cabin perched on the side of a mountain overlooking the sea and coastline. The owner built it with his own two hands (and maybe a couple of others), and can tell you all about its history, as well as just about anything else you might want to know about Cape Breton. Privacy is assured by its location nestled in the woods on 3 sides. It is kept immaculately clean, and any issues or questions are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Highly recommended!"

Out at the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, the cottage is located at St. Margaret's village, in Bay St. Lawrence. From the 8x28 foot front deck you have a panoramic, unobstructed, undeveloped view as the sun sets into the ocean. In season, you can enjoy the local lobster or snow crab caught in the bay in front of you.
Not far off the Cabot Trail, the cottage is a good base for golf at Highland Links in Ingonish (one of the top-rated courses in the world), whale watching or deep sea fishing from the nearby fisherman's wharf or the Hike the Highlands Festival. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is just 10 miles away where there are hiking trails and other activities in the summer. Our family spots at least one moose and one bear at this park every year! It is a thrill for the kids!
Right in the village is a friendly community center with internet access (as well as ping pong for the kids and a basketball hoop). There is a local grocery with all the basics. Right near the community center is an ice cream stand that is great for a quick dinner as well.
It is a birdwatchers paradise. Watch the eagles soar, the guillemots fly in and out of the cliffs below, or the gannets dive into the ocean from the cottage. You might even see the occasional pod of whales in the bay while you sit relaxing or reading on the deck.
Please check this link to determine whether you are able to travel to Cape Breton from where you are, and what the quarantine status may be. https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/travel/#atlantic-bubble
- "We have been staying here for years and adore it and Bay St. Lawrence. Stunning views in all types of weather and the charming cottage is perfectly set up for a week or longer stay. We hike, blueberry pick, whale watch (have spotted from the deck many times), fish, golf kayak, swim and enjoy the local restaurants. We will be back (again)!" - "This was our 2nd visit back to this amazing part of the world, and we loved it. The location is perfect for an East coast experience, and the cabin is simple and very comfortable with all of the basics covered…it is the exact balance that we want to unplug and unwind, and we will certainly will continue to cherish our time there for years to come!! We wouldn’t change a thing and would highly recommend this gem!"

These are some of the most spectacular vistas in all of Cape Breton: endless ocean, beach and Sea Wolf Island (framed perfectly, as if for your personal pleasure!) You don't just enjoy the views- you hear the ocean beside you, lapping at the rocks below, sometimes crashing; it's almost hypnotizing. Check our short video in the "Photos" section.
The supple leather couch in the living room is the perfect spot for connecting with friends, (which is easier than ever, with a fast fibre op internet/ wifi connection). Dig into a good book, or just enjoy the view. You can watch storms develop on the horizon, and play themselves out before they ever reach you. As evening turns to night, relax and take in the starry night skies, and steady cadence of the flashing light of the island lighthouse. Most summer evenings -many with brilliant sunsets- are cool with breezes, which are great for sleeping.
- "Truly heaven on earth! Stewart was an excellent host. He shared the best hikes, restaurants, and local events to visit while we were on vacation. The house was beautiful, clean with spectacular views. We look forward to coming back soon." - "The photos tell the story — a cosy and comfortable cottage in a great setting. Good for anyone looking for "ocean" proximity and privacy. The place is very thoughtfully appointed and comfortable although there were a few components which we felt needed replacement because of evident wear or functionality (eg. the bedroom dresser, the "back" door, the rusted lounger chairs). These weren't deal breakers but considering the price point, such improvements would give it a notable refresh. The main downside is not the cottage itself but how far away Cape Breton is relative to large East coast cities. (If we were to do it again, we'd fly in and rent a car.)"

The cottage has energy efficient ICF foam/concrete walls and natural cedar shingles weathered from sea air that encompass a gorgeous post+beam interior. Being 1 minute off legendary Cabot Trail- there are lots of activities for kids, and families and couples alike can enjoy a wonderful beach getaway. You can walk out the front door & across the field straight onto the beach. Directly in front of the cottage is a stone beach- very peaceful, private and perfect for campfires. Approximately 400 meters down the beach however, it changes to a beautiful sandy beach that is child safe and has a family-friendly atmosphere- perfect for swimming and sandcastles. We are also just minutes away from the heritage rich Acadian village of Cheticamp where the family can learn a little bit about Acadian culture and each great food at some local restaurants.
Owner Description: Jyl and I live in Margaree Valley on my family's homestead property. We have 9 children, from 27 right down to 2. I drive a school bus and own a small well drilling company, Jyl is a physiotherapist.
Why the Owner Chose Cheticamp: It started as a beach house for the family, we all enjoy the ocean . The location was perfect because it was only 1/2 hour from our home in Margaree and close to Jyl's work.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage: Our cottage is located on a strip of land on the beach, with magnificent sunsets and island views toward the front and Cheticamp harbour, full of birds and plants with a mountain back drop to the rear. The site offers a panoramic view of the ocean, island, harbour, wild life and mountains. We're one minute off the Cabot Trail and five minutes to Cheticamp with the Cape Breton Highlands National Park about 10 minutes away.

I would highly recommend." - "We spent a week and wished it had been a year." - "Absolutely wonderful stay. So nice we added a day. Great surroundings." - "Right off the Cabot Trail. This cottage is located just 20 minutes east of Antigonish and 20 minutes west of Cape Breton Island - a convenient base for sightseeing, coastal drives, and day trips.
- "Fabulous time at this cottage. Such a picture perfect cottage, you couldn’t ask for better" - "We had an amazing week spending time on the beach, swimming, catching mackerel and stripped bass right off shore, searching for shells, and evenings by the fire. Cottage was small but clean and had everything you need. We loved the small charcoal bbq for cooking food right in the beach. Would definitely recommend to others!" - "The property is secluded and spacious and feels very comfortable. Steve was very easy to get a hold of and if anything was ever needed was very helpful in solving the situation. The beach part of the roadway is basically made of rocks but my dodge challenger did fine getting across it. My son and I took advantage of a fishing charter that was mentioned and happened to be available. That does not disappoint either, the guys were friendly helpful and lots of fish were caught it a short period of time. The beach it's self was also made of more rocks than sand so a pair of crocks were very useful. The ocean is shallow in front of the cottage so low tide gave way to some exploring which was pretty cool. I would definitely stay here again."

- "Great set up, private beach. Owner is awesome to deal with, lots of great restaurants within 45 min drive. Perfect family getaway." - "We loved our stay here! Star gazing, sitting on the deck with wine and even seeing bioluminescent algae in the water at night was amazing plus so quiet and peaceful. Owners are very kind and helpful too." - "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We arrived after midnight and Egon provided flashlights and helped us with our bags down the hill! The amenities were very nice; we felt right at home. There even was Nespresso which we enjoyed each morning. We were often away during low tide so we didn’t get a chance to enjoy the beach. My husband embraced fishing from the rock next to the cottage. We will definitely be back!"

Our quiet oceanfront Cooperage Cottage sits sheltered by tall oak, pine and spruce trees on five private acres of forest and salt marsh. The surrounding area is mostly summer cottages with some year-round residents. It is conveniently located 45 minutes from Halifax and it is close to Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg.
An oceanfront two story, south facing, fully equipped chalet-style house perfect for couples or families. Each level has a living area, bedroom and bathroom.
The upper level bedroom has a queen bed. The lower level bedroom has two extra long twin beds which can be placed together to make a king bed.
The galley kitchen is fully equipped including an induction stovetop, quartz countertop, wall oven, microwave oven and dishwasher.
There is a deck off the upper level living area. The lower level living area includes satellite TV, games, propane fireplace, and a heat pump (heating and cooling system).
There are two full bathrooms, one on each level. The washer & dryer are located in the lower level bathroom. Bathroom towels, beach towels, and linens are provided.
WIFI and BBQ are on site.
At the shoreline of the property you can see the ruins of an old working cooperage. A century ago, wooden barrels were built here for the fishing industry and Chester Basin was well known for its many cooperages. Here, chairs welcome you to enjoy the lovely island views and in the summer you will discover why this area is a popular boating destination. The water is accessible so maybe you prefer to go for a swim or rent a kayak.
One of the islands you can see from here is the legendary Oak Island which is famous for many theories of possible buried treasure. Treasure hunters have been searching for the past 150 years.
- "We had a lovely time at this cottage. The managers are welcoming and friendly without pressure in any way. The cottage was super clean and had everything we needed. And my husband and I loved the board walk and poking around on the rocky beach!" - "Cooperage Cottage is an excellent property in a great location and we had another lovely stay. Explore the shore or just stay and relax... I highly recommend it. But I can't recommend ever booking any property with VRBO again. Hurricane Fiona caused an unexpected multi-day power outage at the cottage during our stay, and we had to move to a hotel. While the hosts graciously refunded their rental cost for those days, VRBO refused to refund the fees and taxes they collected, and as a result I lost several hundreds dollars."
