It is by the shore with great view of the ocean and beautiful sunset. spacious and clean, beds are comfortable, " - "We really enjoyed our stay at this property. The cottages are clean and cozy, and contain everything one would need for cooking. The beds are comfortable, the view is lovely, and, the beach is easily accessed from the cottages. What made our stay *extra* special, however, was the warmth, wit, and, hospitality of our lovely host. First, he gave us a courtesy call to provide specific directions to the property, then, called us again to let us know about an event happening nearby at the time of our stay, in case we wanted to attend. He is a lovely human being, who seems to genuinely enjoy people. We were very proud to share the beauty of Nova Scotia with our California friends, especially the beauty of the human landscape (-thank you, Colin!). During our stay, the weather was chilly, overcast, rainy, and foggy, but, the warmth of this property’s owner, and the simple, yet, charming accommodations he offers, will bring us back again.- next time, for a longer, sunnier, summer stay."

This architect-designed cottage is built on a bluff over the ocean and was designed to recall the best aspects of Maritime tradition, but to modernize them with an open-concept interior. It has a summer-y feeling, with a high ceiling, boarded walls and fresh white paint.

Sunsets will knock your socks off. This design is best suited for couples, or couples with one or two children. All on a gorgeous property with 3 large ponds and 2 spring-fed brooks. You'll have a tough time leaving the cottage!

Fishermen haul their lobster traps each year out in front of our cottage. Moose, eagles, deer and foxes are regulars. It's easy to meet people here, and the daily pace here is slower than in most cities. Cape Breton summers are warm-to-hot in the day, but perfect in the evening, and at the shore there are lovely ocean breezes.

Guest Reviews:

- "I cannot begin to describe how truly amazing our vacation was on Cape Breton Island. First, our hosts Stewart and Bell were so gracious and accommodating. Stewart spent over an hour with us going over the many exciting things to do in the area and made dining recommendations that were spot on. It was a very peaceful and relaxing escape for us. There were so many enjoyable aspects of our time here. We would have to include the views from the deck of the cottage as one of the truly memorable parts of the trip. Each night the sunsets were amazing. We very much appreciated the tranquility of the location. The hiking, the beaches and friendly local residents all added to the enjoyment of the trip. This is a rare find and I would happily return any time. I highly recommend this property."

Bell grew up in nearby Margaree Valley, while I grew up in Toronto and have lived here full-time for 30 years. This cottage that has all of the charm of our original SeaSky cottage, but adds an extra (separate) bedroom.

The Cape Cottage was designed specifically for visitors' pleasure and needs. You will enjoy complete seclusion and incredible views in one of the most spectacular parts of Cape Breton. As day turns to evening in technicolor, relax, listen to music or catch up on things you don't have time for at home.

Chimney Corner beach is one of the finest on the island, and it's mostly unoccupied during the week– in addition to the fine beach and safe swimming for children, there are interesting rock formations to explore nearby. Cape Breton is a spectacular place, and you'll find the scenery on this stretch of coastline particularly striking.

There is a rich, strong culture here, historically and musically, and life unwinds at its own special pace. Although a three-day visit to the Island is not uncommon, it takes more time to really get a sense of the rhythms and charm of Cape Breton. Cape Breton summers are warm-to-hot in the day, but perfect in the evening, with lovely ocean breezes.

Guest Reviews:

- "The house is open and bright, set on a hillside overlooking the coast below. Private and quiet, an excellent getaway. Many local places to visit and explore for hiking, biking, dinners out. We enjoyed live music of the region and nearby Highlands National Park for hiking. Knowledgeable and helpful host." - "The cape house is simply lovely. Sits up on a hill overlooking the water. Sunsets out your window. The house itself has been tastefully decorated and has everything you’d want for a week. It’s a drive to get anywhere but that’s the nature of Cape Breton. Sitting on that beautiful coast gives you access to wonderful beaches, the national park, hiking and music. The host meets you on day one and lays out a map and list of things to do and see, where to eat and where not to eat. He was spot-on with his recommendations. The only issue we had was a booking snafu. After reaching out far in advance we were asked what Friday-Friday dates we wanted. We picked a summer week and was told to reach out in November again to confirm but they’d be saved for us. We did and received a lease for the stay. We signed the lease and planned a 3 week vacation around the rental. What I didn’t notice was the lease was changed to a Sunday-Sunday rental. Same weekends but two days later. This was not pointed out to me. Because of this, we had to leave a day earlier than planned and find other last minute accommodation for two nights when I finally noticed the change months later. I wish he had noted he needed to change the dates when sending us the lease agreement. I wish I had checked the dates on the lease. We wound up paying for a night we couldn’t stay and losing a beautiful day in Cape Breton."

- "Excellent stay in this cute and well-furnished cabin. The property is clean and very well-maintained. Stewart was delightful and extremely helpful while respecting our privacy. The cabin is perfect for a couple wanting a place to stay close to the Cabot Trail and other local sights. The view from the porch (when there wasn’t fog), is exceptional. I do recommend an SUV for the steep road up to the cabin." - "Deep Blue Sea is a rustic and charming cabin perched on the side of a mountain overlooking the sea and coastline. The owner built it with his own two hands (and maybe a couple of others), and can tell you all about its history, as well as just about anything else you might want to know about Cape Breton. Privacy is assured by its location nestled in the woods on 3 sides. It is kept immaculately clean, and any issues or questions are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Highly recommended!"

Guest Reviews:

- "Great cottage and location. It had all everything you could have wanted. And the start of Cabot Trail just down the road. Really had a relaxing time. And great place for our dog. Huge yard for her to run around." - "Sunset Cottage is in a great location- just a few minutes to multiple beaches, Cape Breton National Park, the fabulous Aucoin bakery and Cheticamp. The cottage was very clean and freshly updated with a welcoming, beachy decor. The beds were extremely comfortable, the kitchen is very well equipped, and lots of extras were provided that are helpful to travelers. We loved having the washer and dryer. We stayed 9 nights and never had a shortage of things to do. From the cottage you are just minutes away from all that the west side has to offer! Angela was very communicative and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return!"

Cottages in Cape Breton Island
Cape Breton Cottage, Off the Beaten Path. Spectacular Ocean and Mt. Views!
Cottage
Victoria, Subd. A, Nova Scotia, Canada

If you are looking for something off the beaten path, you have found it! Out at the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, the cottage is located at St. Margaret's village, in Bay St. Lawrence. From the 8x28 foot front deck you have a panoramic, unobstructed, undeveloped view as the sun sets into the ocean. In season, you can enjoy the local lobster or snow crab caught in the bay in front of you.

Not far off the Cabot Trail, the cottage is a good base for golf at Highland Links in Ingonish (one of the top-rated courses in the world), whale watching or deep sea fishing from the nearby fisherman's wharf or the Hike the Highlands Festival. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is just 10 miles away where there are hiking trails and other activities in the summer. Our family spots at least one moose and one bear at this park every year! It is a thrill for the kids!

Right in the village is a friendly community center with internet access (as well as ping pong for the kids and a basketball hoop). There is a local grocery with all the basics. Right near the community center is an ice cream stand that is great for a quick dinner as well.

It is a birdwatchers paradise. Watch the eagles soar, the guillemots fly in and out of the cliffs below, or the gannets dive into the ocean from the cottage. You might even see the occasional pod of whales in the bay while you sit relaxing or reading on the deck.

- "We have been staying here for years and adore it and Bay St. Lawrence. Stunning views in all types of weather and the charming cottage is perfectly set up for a week or longer stay. We hike, blueberry pick, whale watch (have spotted from the deck many times), fish, golf kayak, swim and enjoy the local restaurants. We will be back (again)!" - "This was our 2nd visit back to this amazing part of the world, and we loved it. The location is perfect for an East coast experience, and the cabin is simple and very comfortable with all of the basics covered…it is the exact balance that we want to unplug and unwind, and we will certainly will continue to cherish our time there for years to come!! We wouldn’t change a thing and would highly recommend this gem!"
