- "Great location great house overall great stay. It’s a century home and all the things that come with it. Lots of character…" - "We had a great time on apple orchard lane. The location can't be beat, just minutes outside of town but on a very private road, and only a oen minute walk to a public beach. The cottage has some quirks but was great for us - it's rare to find a place that is both pet friendly and has a heat pump, so getting both was a real treat. Three good size bedrooms (and a 4th you can use in a pinch) and two bathrooms makes it great for a family, and the deck gets afternoon shade so it's great for family dinner. I should tank this review so none of you take it and we can get our reservation next year, but that doesn't seem fair to the owners."

Our quiet oceanfront Cooperage Cottage sits sheltered by tall oak, pine and spruce trees on five private acres of forest and salt marsh. The surrounding area is mostly summer cottages with some year-round residents. It is conveniently located 45 minutes from Halifax and it is close to Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg.

An oceanfront two story, south facing, fully equipped chalet-style house perfect for couples or families. Each level has a living area, bedroom and bathroom.

The upper level bedroom has a queen bed. The lower level bedroom has two extra long twin beds which can be placed together to make a king bed.

The galley kitchen is fully equipped including an induction stovetop, quartz countertop, wall oven, microwave oven and dishwasher.

There is a deck off the upper level living area. The lower level living area includes satellite TV, games, propane fireplace, and a heat pump (heating and cooling system).

There are two full bathrooms, one on each level. The washer & dryer are located in the lower level bathroom. Bathroom towels, beach towels, and linens are provided.

At the shoreline of the property you can see the ruins of an old working cooperage. A century ago, wooden barrels were built here for the fishing industry and Chester Basin was well known for its many cooperages. Here, chairs welcome you to enjoy the lovely island views and in the summer you will discover why this area is a popular boating destination. The water is accessible so maybe you prefer to go for a swim or rent a kayak.

One of the islands you can see from here is the legendary Oak Island which is famous for many theories of possible buried treasure. Treasure hunters have been searching for the past 150 years.

- "We had a lovely time at this cottage. The managers are welcoming and friendly without pressure in any way. The cottage was super clean and had everything we needed. And my husband and I loved the board walk and poking around on the rocky beach!" - "Cooperage Cottage is an excellent property in a great location and we had another lovely stay. Hurricane Fiona caused an unexpected multi-day power outage at the cottage during our stay, and we had to move to a hotel. While the hosts graciously refunded their rental cost for those days, VRBO refused to refund the fees and taxes they collected, and as a result I lost several hundreds dollars."

The historic UNESCO world heritage town of Lunenburg (home of the Bluenose Schooner) is close by and the famous Oak Island is located less then 5 mins by car and tours are offered.

Ski Martock can found approximately (40km) away for winter downhill skiing and snowboarding and they offered groomed cross country ski trails as well.

The 35 Km Chester Connector Trail is located less then 2 km from the cottage and has year round access for various activities.

- "We went to Lysette's cottage in Mahone Bay to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were very happy with it. Even the cat liked it there. All expectations were met but there were extra enjoyments. The fire table outside and the solarium were benefits beyond what would satisfy. And, there were always animals about, not only birds and squirrels but also deer! The location is just fine for enjoying beautiful Mahone Bay, as long as you are happy to walk for 15 minutes or just do a short drive. Also, a generous host."

There are two domes on the property each with their own private parking area. As with most places that have more than one accommodation, sound can sometimes travel - for this reason, our property is child and pet free. Like many properties on the East Coast, our domes are perfectly situated along both the ocean and the road. While you might occasionally hear some noise from the road, most guests don't notice or mind. The breathtaking view and soothing sound of the ocean drowns-out everything else. Plus, our domes come equipped with a white noise machine, just in case!

There’s also an eating area with a well-appointed kitchenette and we provide all guests with coffee & tea. We’re also surrounded by several amazing restaurants and cafes if you prefer. The bathroom is also located on this main level.

The upper level is a loft-style bedroom where you’ll get a great night’s sleep on our cozy king-sized bed. Even though you’re in the middle of the charming UNESCO Old Town, the carriage house itself is hidden from the street and quiet.

We don't have guest parking but you shouldn't have any problems finding a parking spot.

All the surrounding streets behind our house don't have meters and are always free. From Lincoln Street you can turn left on Cornwallis Street and park for free on all the streets around the church.

The main commercial streets including Bluenose, Montague, Pelham and Lincoln have parking meters that are enforced Mon-Sat 10am-5pm.

- "The home was beautiful and had all the comforts of home. The home is just a couple of miles outside Lunenburg proper, and it was easy enough to drive into town. It sits on a beautiful cove, and we got to see an abundance of different varieties of birds, including cormorants, loons and bald eagles. My family thoroughly enjoyed relaxing and spending time together in this home. The owners were very knowledgeable of the area and made some great recommendations for things to do and places to eat. They were also very responsive to any issues that we had. A couple of things to note: Nova Scotia has a very strict burning policy, and you need to log onto the local websites to check if it is even possible to have a campfire in the beautiful fire pit. The water to the home has a little bit of a smell to it, due to how it is collected, filtered and used. Although the owner assured us it was safe, we chose to use bottled water for all food preparation and drinking. Also, while we were able to use the dryer, the washing machine was off limits, so we had to use the local laundromat for doing laundry. "

Our cottage has a spectacular view with nearby hiking and biking trails, the towns of Mahone Bay and historic Lunenburg. It is situated on a southern facing hill overlooking the water and islands of beautiful Mahone Bay. You’ll love our place because of the serenity and outdoors space. Wild roses separate the cottage from a large lawn with garden. It is quiet and at night a good place to view the sky. Sailboats float by. Our place is good for couples and families (with kids).

You will have the complete first floor which includes two bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen within the main room; in total about 900 square feet of space. You may wander around the 5 acre lawn and gardens, see deer and other wildlife or play lawn games (some available). We do reserve the basement, with its separate entrance as it stores our gardening equipment. We access this during reasonable daylight hours (not very early).

This cottage is the main homestead that once belonged to my great grandparents. There is a small guesthouse rental unit situated on the property behind this cottage that was built for a blind friend of theirs in the mid-1900s.

Please read all details and house rules as we don't want there to be any surprises on arrival.

The upstairs bedrooms have slanted ceilings (as seen in the photos) and some of the doorways are not a standard size. Because the bathroom is on the main floor and the bedrooms are on the second floor, we do not recommend this cottage for guests with mobility or balance restrictions. If you are reading this and still choose to book, please do not leave us a low review score due to these features. We are giving you this information in advance so that you can make an informed decision about what best suits your personal needs and lifestyle.


LOCAL SALES TAX
As of July 1, all Canadian Airbnb hosts are required by Canada Revenue Agency to charge the local sales tax. The space
This is a cottage that was recently renovated and Almost all windows looks over the water and if they are open you can fall asleep to the waves . Just added a propane fire pit in the backyard for privacy.

There is parking for two cars or one big truck. Also there is taxi service here but needs to be reservation.

Other things to note
If you have any kayaks, etc..... the cove is perfect place to explore on the water. We are close to beaches and boat launch.

This little boathouse sits right on Scotch Cove in East Chester, NS. Enjoy seaside views from every angle, with lovely outdoor seating and propane BBQ. The deck leads directly to the dock allowing for easy access for swimming or watercraft provided. The place is just a short walk from hiking and biking trails, with nearby lakes and sandy beaches. The indoor projector and screen make movie nights so much better! The boathouse is fully equipped for winter with a cozy woodstove.

The space
I've replaced my old fish house that was succumbing to the sea and wildlife with a modern, Scandanavian-feel house with high ceilings and full ocean view and access. There are 4 paddle boards, a canoe and three kayaks for your use in the summer and a swim float in the Cove to paddle or swim to. It is a year-round retreat to decompress and enjoy the sea. There’s a sauna coming soon in the fall!

The living area, bed and bathroom are all easily accessible although the doorways and hall is narrow. There is a separate deck off the bedroom to a private sitting area and outdoor shower. The loft is accessed by an alternating staircase, not appropriate for small children or those with mobility or other impairment.

Other things to note
We have a deep water mooring for those arriving by boat. Please contact me for information! Paddle boards, kayaks, and a canoe are left on or near the rack with life jackets available. The wooden swim float is yours to use and provides deeper water access for swimming. These are available to both you and the cottage guests. I ask that you share these as needed. There are no currents or wave action in the cove, but venturing into the bay requires having personal floatation equipment. Any poor or impaired swimmers MUST use personal floatation.

Three Sheeps to the Wind Cottage is located close to many restaurants, pubs, and Sensea Spa in Chester (6mins) and Mahone Bay (10mins) by car.

The Seaside Shanty restaurant is a short canoe ride from the cottage as well as a drugstore.

This Nova Scotia cottage rental’s three bedrooms are located on the second floor with two bedrooms featuring a queen size bed and the third bedroom has a twin over double bunk bed. The finished room in the walk out basement features a Murphy Wall Bed with real double mattress. There is a full bath with tub on second floor and powder room on main floor.

There’s a main floor deck with amazing water front views and gorgeous sunsets. There is a small deck off of master bedroom to enjoy your morning coffee. Three Sheeps to the Wind is the last home on a private road so it is very private yet close to all amenities in nearby Chester and Mahone Bay.

There is a public golf course and salt water pool in Chester, not to mention many unique shops. The new SENSEA Nordic Spa has year round day passes available, you will not regret booking some time there :) Mahone bay is the home of the "three churches" and more restaurants and shops. The historic UNESCO world heritage town of Lunenburg (home of the Bluenose Schooner) is close by and the famous Oak Island is located less then 5 mins by car and tours are offered.

Ski Mattock can found approximately (40km) away for winter downhill skiing and snowboarding and they offered groomed cross country ski trails as well.

The 35 Km Chester Connector Trail is located less then 2 km from the cottage and has year round access for various activities.

Please note we have a beautiful large wharf and floating dock; however, the switchback path to the ocean is easy to get down but a steep climb back up (4 short switchbacks). There are no handrails. The trek down is well worth the climb back up. Swimming is lovely down there or just sitting and relaxing on the water. Paddleboards and Kayak are all already at the bottom.
