- "Great location great house overall great stay. It’s a century home and all the things that come with it. Lots of character…" - "We had a great time on apple orchard lane. The location can't be beat, just minutes outside of town but on a very private road, and only a oen minute walk to a public beach. The cottage has some quirks but was great for us - it's rare to find a place that is both pet friendly and has a heat pump, so getting both was a real treat. Three good size bedrooms (and a 4th you can use in a pinch) and two bathrooms makes it great for a family, and the deck gets afternoon shade so it's great for family dinner. I should tank this review so none of you take it and we can get our reservation next year, but that doesn't seem fair to the owners."

Our quiet oceanfront Cooperage Cottage sits sheltered by tall oak, pine and spruce trees on five private acres of forest and salt marsh. The surrounding area is mostly summer cottages with some year-round residents. It is conveniently located 45 minutes from Halifax and it is close to Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg.

An oceanfront two story, south facing, fully equipped chalet-style house perfect for couples or families. Each level has a living area, bedroom and bathroom.

The upper level bedroom has a queen bed. The lower level bedroom has two extra long twin beds which can be placed together to make a king bed.

The galley kitchen is fully equipped including an induction stovetop, quartz countertop, wall oven, microwave oven and dishwasher.

There is a deck off the upper level living area. The lower level living area includes satellite TV, games, propane fireplace, and a heat pump (heating and cooling system).

There are two full bathrooms, one on each level. The washer & dryer are located in the lower level bathroom. Bathroom towels, beach towels, and linens are provided.

At the shoreline of the property you can see the ruins of an old working cooperage. A century ago, wooden barrels were built here for the fishing industry and Chester Basin was well known for its many cooperages. Here, chairs welcome you to enjoy the lovely island views and in the summer you will discover why this area is a popular boating destination. The water is accessible so maybe you prefer to go for a swim or rent a kayak.

One of the islands you can see from here is the legendary Oak Island which is famous for many theories of possible buried treasure. Treasure hunters have been searching for the past 150 years.

- "We had a lovely time at this cottage. The managers are welcoming and friendly without pressure in any way. The cottage was super clean and had everything we needed. And my husband and I loved the board walk and poking around on the rocky beach!" - "Cooperage Cottage is an excellent property in a great location and we had another lovely stay. Hurricane Fiona caused an unexpected multi-day power outage at the cottage during our stay, and we had to move to a hotel. While the hosts graciously refunded their rental cost for those days, VRBO refused to refund the fees and taxes they collected, and as a result I lost several hundreds dollars."

The historic UNESCO world heritage town of Lunenburg (home of the Bluenose Schooner) is close by and the famous Oak Island is located less then 5 mins by car and tours are offered.

Ski Martock can found approximately (40km) away for winter downhill skiing and snowboarding and they offered groomed cross country ski trails as well.

The 35 Km Chester Connector Trail is located less then 2 km from the cottage and has year round access for various activities.

The location is just fine for enjoying beautiful Mahone Bay, as long as you are happy to walk for 15 minutes or just do a short drive. Also, a generous host."

There are two domes on the property each with their own private parking area. As with most places that have more than one accommodation, sound can sometimes travel - for this reason, our property is child and pet free. Like many properties on the East Coast, our domes are perfectly situated along both the ocean and the road. While you might occasionally hear some noise from the road, most guests don't notice or mind. The breathtaking view and soothing sound of the ocean drowns-out everything else. Plus, our domes come equipped with a white noise machine, just in case!

The Space

Vintage meets modern in this private carriage house on two levels.

The main level includes a living area with plenty of room to relax and watch a movie (on Netflix or Cable TV) curl up with a good book, or choose from one of the many board games. There’s also an eating area with a well-appointed kitchenette and we provide all guests with coffee & tea. We’re also surrounded by several amazing restaurants and cafes if you prefer. The bathroom is also located on this main level.

The upper level is a loft-style bedroom where you’ll get a great night’s sleep on our cozy king-sized bed. Even though you’re in the middle of the charming UNESCO Old Town, the carriage house itself is hidden from the street and quiet.

We’re excited to host you during your stay. We live on the property in the main house so we’re there if you’d like to chat about places to eat, local attractions, hikes, fun day trips or just to answer any questions you may have. But if you’d rather enjoy some privacy and keep to yourself, that’s perfectly fine as well. We’ll leave lots of ideas for you inside the carriage house.

Other things to note

We don't have guest parking but you shouldn't have any problems finding a parking spot.

All the surrounding streets behind our house don't have meters and are always free. From Lincoln Street you can turn left on Cornwallis Street and park for free on all the streets around the church.

The main commercial streets including Bluenose, Montague, Pelham and Lincoln have parking meters that are enforced Mon-Sat 10am-5pm.

Welcome to our family cottage on Masons Beach, tucked just behind the golf course in historic Lunenburg Nova Scotia.

The newly renovated cottage is filled with art and musical instruments, espresso machine, soaker tub, private dock, and the beach is just 60 metres from the front door. Watch the bluenose set her sails twice a day from the front deck. We are tucked into Puffy Cup Cove where she moores and takes guests out to sea on day trips (be sure to book! Or whale watching or deep sea fishing!) With 360 water views of the Atlantic in the front and Masons Pond in the back, have your coffee as the sunrises over the Atlantic and a sunset cocktail on our small private dock on Masons Pond. This quiet seaside community is peaceful and unique.

A 5 minute drive to Old Town, or a a quick walk to the golf course.

Enjoy a bonfire in the fire pit in the back yard. There’s also an outdoor shower and plenty of space for the kids to run and play safely. The pond is home to beavers, geese, ducks, turtles, eagles and osprey. A large herd of deer commonly graze in the back yard at sunrise and sunset.

There’s a soaker tub in the upstairs bathroom and a rain shower in the downstairs bathroom.
