- "Cottage was very clean! I love to cook and the kitchen was well equipped (perhaps add a larger skillet). Bed might be a little high off the ground for physically challenged guests, but mattress was comfy. We were able to hike right from the house by using the trail at the end of the street which led us to the Shore Path and Gorham Mountain areas. I would stay here again!" - "Summerwood Cottage was the perfect place for my husband and myself. It was very clean, had all the amenities we needed, and was the perfect size (cozy yet plenty of space). We loved being able to walk to Otter Cove, and being just a short drive to everything else. My only recommendation for future guests is to pack an eye mask. The skylight in the bedroom was great for allowing in fresh air, but the sun rises early in Maine and made for some early mornings :-)"

FYI if you are coming with small children; this property is literally right on the ocean. Porch overhangs the water and stairs down to the sea, neither are child proofed. Please take care. I highly recommend wellness center, particularly massage with Alexandra. There is one note to be aware regarding Wi-Fi: we rented two yurts, we had reliable signal at Flying Mountain and less reliable signal at Sargeant Mountain. Oceanfront cottage with 200 feet of private pebble beach and beautiful view of Western Bay and mountains of Acadia National Park. Situated on 3/4 acre, this cottage is conveniently located in a quiet, wooded setting yet only 10 miles to Acadia National Park and 12 miles to Bar Harbor. Cottage has 2 bedrooms, living room, bath room, open kitchen with all new appliances, and spacious dining area with direct view of the ocean. Enjoy watching the sunrise over the mountains or the beauty of the moonlight on the water. Please be aware that this is a brand new cottage built in 2023-2024 to replace the old cabin we had on this property and to which the reviews refer. We tried to rebuild in the style of the old cabin because we loved it so much, but it was getting difficult to maintain after so many years. The new house has an even better view of the water than the old cabin because it is sited differently. It is fully insulated to Maine building code and has electric heat throughout.

The house is quaint, in a quiet location, and is plenty of space for four to spread out and relax. The true highlight is the property itself with the expansive back yard, surrounded by trees, complete with table, chairs, and a fire pit! We had many late nights enjoying a fire and the crisp, quiet, night air. It is also steps (or a bike ride) from the Causeway, and the Valley Cove and Summit Trails which offer beautiful views and challenging terrain for hikers, as well as Echo Lake if you want to go for a swim. Southwest Harbor is also a great little town. You have everything you need from a grocery store, cafes, shops, and some great places to eat lunch and dinner. All in all a cozy, quiet, and comfortable place to relax after a day of hiking and sight seeing in Acadia."

- "This was the nicest home we have stayed in. It was immaculate. The kitchen supplies were top notch, lovely to cook with. The view from the small porch is enchanting. Perfect place for a cup of coffee or glass of wine. We had a fire in the pit a couple of times…stars were amazing. Nearby there are several good restaurants, but especially recommend the homemade blueberry soft serve ice cream at Me and Ben’s. The park at Schoodic Penensula is very close and what wonderful views. The main park is a lovely hour drive away and very easy to get to. There is a lot to do and see right around the house, too. Nice antique shops. Each day, however, we were so happy to get back to our lovely cottage. A few tips; buy your own firewood along the way at a “camp wood” station…need cash. Wi-Fi was not very strong. Groceries in Ellsworth is best place to get supplies. Hosts were prompt in reply and very helpful. Would highly recommend this stay!"

The Boathouse is an efficiency cottage that accommodates 2. It has everything you could ask for in a romantic cottage getaway. The Boathouse is a waterfront cottage located on the shore of Hodgdon Pond, a fresh water pond on the west side of Mount Desert Island. Hodgdon Pond is very quiet and peaceful and is bordered by Acadia National Park that protects the watershed from future development on the east side of the pond. From the front deck, you look right out over the beach area and dock where there are kayaks, canoe and rowboat for the free use of our guests. The dock and use of boats is shared with one other vacation home.

Amenities include: The efficiency of one room living area with a queen size bed, kitchen with dinette, range and refrigerator and two chairs to relax in. The separate bathroom has a new walkin shower. There is a land line telephone where cell service can be limited due to the location. Satellite cable TV, and internet is also provided. The Boulders was originally part of a well-known Maine summer resort. Back in the 19th century wealthy people in New York and Boston would throng, by steamship, to the cool, clean restful Maine coast for the summer. They called it rusticating. The Lookout Inn was a resort built for rusticators, and over the years has expanded to include a number of cottages – including the Boulders.

The resort is as popular today as it has always been. At the end of a quiet peninsula, it has a quintessentially Maine feeling. A long rocky, but walk-able beach surrounds a large open field. Views in every direction are spectacular. The ocean water of Jericho Bay surrounds the peninsula and is dotted with islands. One is even close enough to walk to at low tide!

You will have night skies with more stars than you can imagine, exquisite walking trails, pristine ocean water, and lots of local attractions.

Owned and operated by native Mainers and located in the village of Otter Creek, the cottage is only 10 minutes to the main entrance of Acadia National Park, less than 10 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor, and 100 yards away from an old village connector walking trail that leads directly to some of Acadia’s newest hiking trails in Mount Desert, Maine!

In addition, Humble Cottage is located across the street from the Otter Creek Market which is a pick-up and drop-off location for the Island Explorer (clean propane-powered shuttles) which offer FREE transportation to hiking trails, carriage roads, island beaches and in-town shops and restaurants.

The cottage is a single level property filled with many comforts of home including a full kitchen, eat-in bar, dining room table, a den, two living rooms, and two bedrooms - one with a king sized bed, the other with a queen sized bed and a twin sized bed. A comfortable twin roll away cot is also available. Both bedrooms have large closets and luggage racks.

The bathroom has a shower/tub combo, and there is laundry onsite for the use of guests if desired.

In the backyard there is ample seating for outdoor eating and entertaining in a private, fenced in space, along with a fire pit and propane grill for guest use.

Welcome to the Cape Cottage! an adorable two-bedroom cottage nestled in the middle of Cape Rosier and an easy bike ride to public beaches, the Holbrook Island Sanctuary, and everything that Harborside has to offer!

The space
It’s a small cottage. Downstairs has two spaces, a kitchen/dining room and a living room with pull out queen sofa bed. Upstairs has two bedrooms and a bathroom. The main bedroom has a queen bed and the second bedroom has a full bed and twin trundle bed. You must walk through the second bedroom to access the bathroom.

There is an outdoor game room in the shed with a ping pong table

Edgewater is centrally located off of Route 1 (Schoodic Scenic By-way) in Sullivan Harbor. You can enjoy our beach and picnic tables on the wharf while surrounded by amazing views. You will find a tennis court just a short walk up our driveway. Nearby there are restaurants, local hiking trails, and Acadia National Park (20 min to Schoodic Point and 35 min to Acadia on Mount Desert Island). Boat rides around Frenchman's Bay are available from our dock.

There's a 3 night minimum stay in Cabin 2.

The space
Edgewater is on a peninsula in Frenchman's Bay. There are 7 housekeeping cottages and family home located on the property.

Guest access
There is access to the water both on the bay side (south) and the cove side facing west looking at Tidal Falls. We have arranged picnic tables, adirondack chairs, and benches, in places where you can relax and enjoy the views.

Other things to note
The wireless is Edgewater1 with security code (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). The switch for your outside light is located in the porch area. It is in the left corner closest to the cabin.
Extra trash bags are located in the garage along with recycling bins. Please put your bagged trash in the dumpster. Let us know if you need anything else.

PENELOPE (Cottage #9) - 1 bedroom cottage with a partial water view that can accommodate up to 4 people. It has a separate bedroom with queen size bed, a living area with sleeper sofa and a free standing gas fireplace. The kitchenette comes with a mini refrigerator, two-burner stove top, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and French doors leading to a screened-in porch. One bathroom with a shower. Linens, towels, cooking utensils, AC/heat, TV & Wifi provided. Enjoy!

The space
Established in 1887, we call this property "The Vintages". This private cottage is one of 12 fully equipped self‐catering cottages with screened porches and kitchenettes giving guests the ability to enjoy a relaxing morning before venturing to the Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park area. We are
located on two acres of manicured property. We feature beautiful gardens with flowers in seasonal bloom, dedicated onsite parking and room for outdoor activities. We are across the street from the ocean with views of Salsbury Cove, Eastern Bay and Frenchman's Bay.

A rustic cottage in the middle of Darthia Farm. The farm sits along the shore of West Bay and a short walking trail brings you from the cottage to the salt water. We grow organic mixed vegetables, herbs and flowers, raise sheep, ducks, chickens, pigs, and work with Haflinger horses. We have a farm store that is open everyday except Tuesdays and Sundays. The property is 15 minutes away from the Schoodic Section of Acadia and is surronded is by countless hiking trails and access to fresh water.

The space
On the first floor there is a living room and kitchen. The kitchen has a small refridgerator and even smaller freezer, gas stove and oven and galley foot pump style sink.
A spiral staircase leads you to the second floor where you enter the first room with two twin beds and through that first room you enter the second room with a queen size bed.
The entry way is a woodshed and also houses the water-free Separett toilet.
The cottage sits in the middle of the farm in an open and well lit location. It neighbors the apprentice cabins, farmstore, barn and gardens.

Guest access
The farm store offers veggies, dairy, meat, grains, pasta, honey...and is open 12-5PM five days a week.
The farm is a beautiful place to explore. Fences are electrified and children must be supervised. Gardens and greenhouses can be observed from outside of their perimeters.
A trail runs from the cottage down to West Bay. High tide is great for swimming and low tide is great for exploring the mudflats.

Other things to note
We have two dogs living on the farm. One English Shepard named Glow, and one Mini Aussie King Cavalier Spaniel mix named Mathia. Glow and Mathia are off leash and free roaming mornings and early evenings. Their job is to keep predators and pests away from our gardens and livestock. They often do this by barking and exploring the perimeters of the farm.
The people and livestock living on the farm are active from sun up to sun down.

Cottage 10 is a cute rustic cottage with one queen bed, a full bath with shower, A/C, mini-fridge, cable, television, iron/ironing board, hairdryer, coffee pot, microwave, and free Wi-Fi. As with all guests who join our Ohana, there is full access to the indoor kitchen downstairs in the main building, the outdoor kitchen and grill, full access to the common use hot tub, and the bonfire pit on the back lawn.

The space
Cottages at The Open Hearth Inn are a rustic but private little base camp for all of your Acadia Adventures. These cabins (9 in total) have been on the property since sometime in the 50s and although they are 'vintage' in nature, they are a comfortable trip back in time ;). Just a mile away from the first picnic area in the park and the welcome center, this property is the ultimate budget option for a place to stay while you play.
The basis of the Open Hearth Inn is the main house, built in the 1820's it's best known for its historic charm. One of 20 rooms and everyone has plenty of space to stretch outside, gather in the old hearth room and play some board games, stretch out on the couch and watch movies on the common use 70" tv, make some new friends, and explore the real reason we call it 'Ohana'.

Located on Route 3 at the head of Mount Desert Island, The Open Hearth Inn is 12 miles to Bar Harbor, 9 miles to Acadia National Park, 15 miles to Bass Harbor Head Light, 12 miles to Southwest Harbor, 8 miles to Ellsworth, 35 miles to the Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park, 36 miles to Bangor, 65 miles to Camden and 163 miles to Portland. The Bar Harbor Hancock County Airport is a half-mile up the road.

The Open Hearth Inn makes a great home base for day trips around Downeast Maine and the coastal beauties such as Mount Desert Island (MDI).

Pet Policy:

Here at Open Hearth Inn we welcome your four-legged family member. However, we ask you to help us with the following pet rules while staying with us.

1. Please don't leave your pet in the rooms unattended.

Why? Because they miss you and from our experience of being professional hosts since the 90's, when they are lonely they howl or bark causing others to lose the quiet enjoyment on the property. Lonely pets also use the bed or other furniture to snuggle on while you are away. This is super tough for our housekeepers to remedy because blankets or comforters need to be washed or replaced, also furnishings can take hours to remove hair from so we can present a clean space for the next guest.

Maine is a very pet friendly place and since you brought them on vacation we hope you keep them with you so they can enjoy "Vacation Land" as much as humans do.

2. Please pick up all the poop/excrement they may have.

3. Please have your pup on a leash when enjoying the common areas.

4. Please try to refrain your dog from barking.

We have dog treats, extra poo bags and a water bowl in the common room.

Welcome to The Simple Life....a long-time family camp owned for over 50 years! This unique fishing camp, built just after WWII, sits lakeside overlooking glacial Branch Pond. Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets with swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, and hiking right at your doorstep. If you're lucky, you just might get to see a Bald Eagle sitting on some boulders in the water across from our camp. We have binoculars on a table in the living room to help you get a closer look.

The space
Layout: Two bedrooms offer a double/full bed in each room. There is a nice, semi-private hallway captain's twin bed close to one of the bathrooms. The couch offers an additional queen sofa bed as well.

The living room seating consists of a couch and two rocking chairs, cable TV and a floor to ceiling sliding window overlooking the lake.

The dining room has a new ceiling fan/light and offers seating for up to 6 adults comfortably, with an additional leaf available for the table.

The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, stove, toaster oven, crock pot and microwave. The kitchen sink has a filter for drinking water. Kitchen set-up includes plates, silverware, bowls, pots, pans, glassware, mugs and a lobster pot!

There are 1.5 baths with a shower with plenty of hot water, towels and washcloths, washer and dryer, free internet, window fans as well as standing fans and a large variety of games to play.

There is an above ground deck attached to the camp with outdoor furniture along with another deck on the ground closer to the lake and a nearby fire pit.

Outside for your water enjoyment is approximately 200 feet of beachfront property. To the left is a dock with a ladder (no diving, due to some boulders under the water) and bumpers to protect boats. There is another nearby swimming area to the far right which is good for young children to play in the water. We have a canoe that you may use. Due to Covid-19 we are unable to supply lifejackets. You will need to bring your own lifejackets if you will be using the canoe. LIFEJACKETS ARE MANDATORY FOR USING THE CANOE . The dock may be used for your own boat. We've had both speedboats and a pontoon boat tied up to the dock at different times.

All boats must be inspected before being placed in the water to make certain that there are no invasive plants attached to the bottom of them. There is a state boat launch where you can have your boat inspected for free. There is a $100 fine for not having your boat inspected. This is necessary for the continued health of the lake. Branch Lake/Pond was listed as one of the clearest lakes in Maine and in Down East Magazine as one of the top 12 lakes in Maine for swimming. It is well known for great fishing.

This cabin-like house is bursting with character, with its open ceiling and wood beams, nautical teak ladder to a large loft, and a location nestled in woods of spruce and fir. It's only 2 miles to the village, most of Acadia's "quietside" trailheads, and the very best swimming spot on the island. Good internet and dedicated workspace in the loft make this a great option for those seeking to work remotely in a beautiful place for the summer, or for any couple looking for a cozy getaway.

The space
The shingled saltbox cape has an open living room/dining room, with the small kitchen in an “L” off this space. It's not fancy, but it is cheerful, cozy and comfortable, and it is classic Maine. Large nearly floor-to-ceiling windows across the length of the front of the house face south, letting lots sunlight pour in, yet the wooded location keeps the house cool even on hot days.

There is a large deck off the back of the house with a picnic table and propane grill, and this not-very-buggy (not claiming it's entirely bug-free!) location allows full enjoyment of these amenities! If it's the right time, you can catch the moon rising up from between the trees from the back deck.

There is no cable, satellite, or other TV service, but there is a TV screen with a firewire to which you can hook up a laptop if you desire to stream anything on a somewhat larger screen. There is also a DVD player with a very small collection of DVDs.

A ladder leads to a large loft that is great as a workout space and/or an office. There is a large desk in the loft that provides a dedicated workspace for those looking to work remotely.
