I was so glad we decided to stay in this neighborhood, as it was close to many of the tourist spots I wanted to visit, within walking distance to convenience stores, restaurants/shops, and even a laundromat. Super clean, right in the very heart of Gion, super short walking distance to all the main attractions and sites, the traditional breakfast provided was a huge plus, we loved it. The room was very spacious, the biggest we had during our stay in Japan. Loved the shower room with large tub and that the showering area was separate from toilet and sink. Definitely the largest bathroom we had as well. Slippers are provided and ready when you enter your room in order to keep the floors clean and I like that the toiletries are provided downstairs so you can take what you need, and leave what you don’t. Efficient and eliminates waste. Staff was friendly and so helpful. We were trying to get a taxi upon our checkout on one of the busiest days and he was determined to help us even though he was busy helping other guests check in and out. - "The hotel is located in Gion on a quiet street . Walkable to a lot of temples and Gion tourist shopping street is also very close. Fish market and restaurants are right across the river. The room is comfortable, was upgraded to a garden view but it’s not really a garden if it’s only a 3 feet deep garden ousdie of the window that facing walls of other buildings, you can never see the sky in that room. We usually call that room with no view. The only problem tho is that if you want late check out will be a charge but there’s no storage for luggages. You can only leave them at a corner unattended which doesn’t seem so safe. Staffs are friendly "

Our hotel is located in the Higashiyama area where has a lot of sightseeing spots.
Only a 2-minute walk from the Higashiyama Subway Station and there is a local shopping arcade next to the hotel, where is a good place for you to see and feel the day of the locals.
There is a small stream called Shirakawa-river close to the hotel, walking along the stream and feel the breeze can totally relax you every nerve.

The room itself is also out of expectation with the price. There are one double bed and a tatami area. For a couple, the tatami area is used as a living room, and for a group of more than 2 people, the tatami area can be the other bedroom at night.
For guests who would like to stay longer, there is a washing machine with dryer in the shared space.

Kyoto Machiya is a wooden structure building. Please refrain from using fireworks, tobacco, and electronic cigarettes. Open flames are strictly prohibited indoors and in the surrounding areas.
Violation of this regulation may result in fines based on Kyoto government regulations. Please do not bring cigarette butts into the building. If our staff finds cigarette butts in the trash can, a fine of 1000 yen will be charged per cigarette butt. If the smell of smoke affects the stay of the next guest, we will charge the room rate for one night (the regular rate for that day) as compensation, so please understand.

Bedding will be provided according to the number of reservations. If the actual number of guests exceeds the number of reservations, additional charges will apply.

Please refrain from making loud noises and speaking loudly as much as possible to avoid disturbing nearby residents.

The fusuma (sliding doors) and shoji (paper doors) in the tatami rooms are quite delicate, so please handle them with care.

Since October 2018, all visitors ( all nationalities and ages) are required to pay the accommodation tax based on the rate below:

Room rate between: ¥0~¥20,000 per person per night.
Tax Rate: ¥200 per person per night.
Room rate between ¥20,000~¥49,999 per person per night.
Tax Rate: ¥500 per person per night.
Room rate ¥50,000~ or more per person per night.
Tax Rate: ¥1,000 per person per night.

City taxes have been included in the room rate price when making the booking or reservation.

Since October 2018,
Guests of all nationalities and ages staying in Kyoto City are required to pay the Kyoto City Accommodation Tax.
The Kyoto City Accommodation Tax rate is 200 yen per person per night for stays under 20,000 yen per person per night.
