- "How I wish we could have enjoyed every minute at this marvelous resort! We had waited over 6 months to arrive at this forested fantasyland on the banks of Lake Ashi. Every aspect of The Prince Hakone at Lake Ashinoko was wonderful, and while riding out the worst typhoon to hit the main island of Japan, Honshu, we did enjoy one evening in the gorgeous onsen. The restaurants onsite delivered delicious food all the way up until the time the lake overflowed and flooded the premises. I would recommend any of the restaurants for breakfast or dinner! The staff at The Prince was outstanding, and stayed with us every step of the way. The promptly moved us in a timely manner to a new hotel after the beautiful facilty was flooded, and they provided us with a complimentary breakfast the next morning at the Hotel de Yama. I hope one day to return to this vacation wonderland of Hakone and see it at its best!"

Reading the reviews when booking the hotel, I want to point out that others said that upon arrival at the train station, if you ask the tourist information people to call the hotel for the shuttle, the hotel will send their shuttle for a pick up. However, the shuttle does not start running until 2pm (hotel check-in time)."

Enjoyed walking in the garden in the morning and after dark with the lights. A very comfortable women-only onsen experience - I went three times in two days and I also got a nice reflexology massage booked just hours beforehand via a QR code in the room so the flexibility was excellent. Took advantage of free tea and coffee in the lobby around the clock and even grabbed a whisky at the bar one night. You could really check in, get into your robes and sandals, and never leave :) Although I did leave to visit an art museum and to ride the ropeway and the free shuttle from the hotel was super convenient to get me to both places (not so much for getting back though) "

- "This was our first time in Japan and first time using a hotel of this sort, and we left with a very good first experience! The staff were warm and welcoming right away, talking us through the facilities and showing us to our room, and with good English as well, which helped a lot. The room was atmospheric, perfectly clean, very well equipped and with a gorgeous mountainside view. Having authentic robes and slippers to wear around the whole hotel really made it feel much more traditional. Although we didn't make use of the public baths, the private timeshare baths were perfectly relaxing, again with everything you'd want in there, along with a similarly great view. Breakfast and dinner were included, which were indulgent and VERY filling! Come with an appetite and an open mind for excellent Japanese cuisine! Had a pleasant night's sleep in a very comfy bed, the only slight issue was the sound of what might've been a generator or something humming constantly in the background. Most people would be able to sleep through that just fine, though. Checkout was easy, and the staff went above and beyond by taking us on their shuttle to a museum nearby we wanted to visit next. We were just going to leave our luggage behind the counter for pickup later that day, but the facility of using the shuttle then storing our things in the free lockers at the museum made life much easier. All in all, very impressed, would recommend to anyone visiting Japan."

- "I loved my time here. I stayed in a traditional Japanese style room which was a great experience. The view from my room was amazing! The staff were friendly and helpful and my room was clean. There’s a shuttle bus that goes from the hotel to Hakone-Yumoto station but I didn’t use it so can’t comment but that is helpful as 3/4 of the walk to the hotel is fine and easy but the last 1/4 of the way is a pretty steep incline. I was only carrying a backpack so it wasn’t bad. The highlight though was the onsen - such an amazing experience to be in the hot springs at nighttime."
