It was amazing to get in whenever we wanted, but it may be unnecessary depending on your budget since their public (hotel guests only) open air baths are so spectacular. Also, if you don’t book a room with a private bath, you can reserve a time slot for a private one on the hotel grounds. The time slots will give you access to a private bath, steam spa and bathroom for 40 minutes. We did this for the experience and it was a beautiful and relaxing private bath with forest vegetation to look at. There is a downside to the Gora Kadan but it is still 5 stars for me. I mention it next because I feel it is worth noting. When I first arrived I heard some traffic noise from vehicles and the mountain railway from our room. I was initially discouraged by this but the experience at the hotel that followed muted my disappointment. If I knew about this beforehand, I may not have booked but that would have been a mistake and an amazing experience missed. You may be able avoid the noise if you book one of their higher end rooms. I’m not sure. Absolutely make sure you book a room with in room meals though. I believe at least one of the annex rooms does not have in room meals. At this price point, I often do not feel like we got our moneys worth from our accommodation but with the Gora Kadan we absolutely did. "

" - "Going to a ryokun is a must-do when you go to Japan and Mount View Hakone knocked it out of the park! it is right by a bus stop so it is convient to get to. The tatami rooms are so big and had TV and wifi! They had a tea set and tea you could make in your room! They even provided us with Yukatas to wear to the onsen. To my American pals there are no showers in your room so you have to use the onsen to wash. However, if you get there early or late enough there are family onsen rooms which let you shower and go in an onsen privatly. (it's like family bathrooms) You can also reserve private onsens with beautiful views like a bamboo forest! Me and my friend had a relaxing and fun time. I wish I could of tipped the staff but I know it's not culturally appropriate. Everyone was super polite and there were english instrutions in the room which really helped! Would definatly go again!"

The private onsen which we reserved at check in was wonderful! And then we had the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast in our room which was a wonderful experience! Staff were all so friendly and accommodating when we left our back before departing for some more site seeing after check out! Highly recommend this ryokan if you are heading to Hakone!"
