- "We stayed at the Grande Hotel de Luso for a few nights while travelling from Porto to Lisbon and wanted to see Coimbra. It is about 12 miles from Coimbra in the town of Luso which is quiet and with not a lot to do although the big attraction is the spa. There is a natural water fountain in the center of town where people will travel to fill water containers. Agua de Luso is sold all over Portugal in plastic water bottles in restaurants and stores. The other attraction in Luso is Bussaco National Forest which we spent half a day walking and hiking and is very beautiful. As to the Grande Hotel de Luso, it is an older hotel and the rooms and furniture are a bit antiquated. The rooms are adequate and unspectacular. However, there are a few things that raise the rating of this hotel to me. First, they have one of the best breakfast buffets that I have ever enjoyed and it is included with your stay. There is also a lunch and dinner buffet at a modest charge. We did not eat lunch but did have the dinner buffet once and were delighted at all the options and the quality of the food. For the price it is well worth it. Second, the gym in the hotel is the best out of any of the hotels we've stayed at in Portugal. It is a large and they have a wide variety of machines and free weights and even have fitness staff on hand for personal workouts or if you need assistance. For an exercise fanatic this gym is outstanding. The spa and pool are also great."

He provided us good guidance to explore the hotspots in the area. I would not recommend driving through this area unless you are willing to accept a few surprises with the GPS and locating the various attractions, including your hotel! I would recommend walking within a 10 minute radius of this hotel to find and explore various restaurant choices for food. Don’t settle for the first one you see!There’s a beautiful 19th century castle within 15 minute driving range of this hotel. Highly recommend a visit quite a bit of interesting short hikes and springs and waterfalls around the palace. However, I wouldn’t recommend staying at the Palace hotel. Food there is pricey. And it is very secluded. Just get a couple of drinks or a sandwich at the palace hotel, which will allow me an opportunity to take some pictures of this architectural marvel! Highly recommend visiting the natural holy water, spring! Quite unique, and all of our travels are around the world! "

The next floor down has a large community lounge, meeting room that is a great place for your yoga practice, and large bath, the laundry room is also at this level. The lowest level is a large room with the artist studio and lounge, including large tables for entertaining. This room opens to the patio, Bar-B-Que, and gardens.

I live in this home and am usually around to help guests and care for the gardens. My resident cat, Duffy, loves to meet new people. I do travel at times, and if I am not on site I am easily reachable by phone and social media. I am usually here to greet guests, but if not, there is a lock box for entry to the home.

The home has many stairs, so it would be difficult to navigate for those who have mobility issues or small children.
