It was like eating at a restaurant rather than the typical continental breakfast that is included at other hotels. Speaking of restaurants, we ate at the 1911 restaurant on the first floor, and it had wonderful food, ambience, and staff. The combination of a lovely room, the historic feel of the hotel and restaurant, the super friendly staff, the ability to stroll through the historic neighborhood and walk to Lake Michigan for sunsets... we loved it! From the striped awning covering the welcoming sidewalk to the quaintly decorated lobby, this place oozes charm and is simply delightful. It certainly shows signs that it has been around for over 100 years and I mean that in the best of ways. There's a certain musty smell mixed with cleaner throughout the hallways that adds to the appeal. The room was clean with lots of room - a walk-in closet the size of a small bedroom. And the fireplace was the icing on the cake. I will definitely be staying here again when I'm back in the area."

The Host when we arrived was by far the best welcoming I've ever had in many years of travel. The rooms are dated but very well kept. Each room is decorated differently. The food was amazing and the amenities are plenty. Our room didn't have TV but the room called the Library down the hall was very cool with many games and a big screen tv there, it was great. We took our drinks and played cards down there both nights we stayed. I sure hope the new owners don't change that. We will definitely return."

She offered to move us, (very nice of her) or bring up a space heater. We opted for the heater and the rest of the visit was wonderful. Met some very nice people and had a great breakfast both days.
