I was next inline for check in but a hotel guest just walk right up to the counter from the side as I was about to take my turn. I also noticed some hotel guests can be very loud. I have stayed at this hotel twice to date and it happened twice. Positive: the manager at the hotel did a nice job of handling my situation when I was checking in. She was professional and friendly and even offered for her staff to help me with my bags. The hotel is across the ST from a nice mall, in a good location, clean and the guest rooms are spacious. I had a chance to meet the housekeeper. His name is Mr. Zhai, Peng, a young fellow and friendly. He did a nice job on the housekeeping. "

It is just over an hour drive from Suzhou station (the nearest train station) and when you arrive, you will enjoy the view of the carefully landscaped lake. However, everywhere else around the lake is in construction. If you want to do anything else (apart from the half hour stroll around the lake or visit the couple of overpriced Chinese restaurants next to it) you will have to walk for about 25-30 minutes and cross over the river. Once there, you will be able to find a supermarket and an extremely busy Starbucks but don't hope for anything more than that! Also, many other smaller things happened which weren't up to par if for a five star hotel on hotels.com. For example, there was no bottle stop for a bottle of wine I bought, I ordered a liquor coffee then taught the staff how to make it (first time I received just baileys in latte glass, second time was a baileys, milk and ice, but third time lucky), the ATM was broken and the medium rare steak ordered on my last night arrived medium well. Small things but not expected from the price. Nonetheless, the staff were very happy to help (if they could) and I would recommend the hotel for someone driving through the area and needing to stay one or two nights."

- "It’s breathtaking lake view, the pictures on the website is not doing its justice. The pool indoor and outdoor both are great, the water play ground is lovely." - "Best Hotel Room. Wonderful size with amazing view and comfortable window seats. I loved the large bath tub and the shower. This is a very chinese hotel, I only saw one foreigner. The pool is misleading in the photo and a bit strange. the Marriot shares the pool and the fitness room with the Renaissance hotel next door AND there is no Hot Tub. I actually choose this hotel because of the hot tub so I was disappointed. Further, the pool and fitness areas are in a separate building between the 2 hotels. You have to wade past reception and go outside to get to the pool area. Also I forgot that in China, in order to swim, you need to wear a swim hat and for men, you need to wear a chinese style bathing suit. Western style bathing suits are frowned upon because they look too much like shorts. The Marriot and the Renaissance hotels have prime location in the area and is convinent to see all the local sites. Only 1 of the 3 restaurants for dinner was open and we couldn't get a reservation. This was strange because the hotel seemed packed with Chinese Families out for the weekend. Then... we took a taxi to the nearest restaurants.. and bumped into all the hotel families. obviously the local restaurants are going to be much cheaper than the hotel. This hotel is a lovely Marriot but very Chinese. Good luck finding a hotel staff member who speaks english! "

Staff okay under the circumstances. To name one problem, the queue for breakfast extended from the cafe to the elevators. If there were a duty manager around, this would not be allowed to happen.
