We have been vacation rental owners in Harpers Ferry since 2009 (see VRBO 265656), and are committed to ensuring that our guests enjoy a comfortable and truly unique stay in one of the most historic and charming towns on the East Coast.
We acquired this charming new (200 year old!) house and spent 2020 completing renovations. Like our other downtown Harpers Ferry vacation rental, this 200 year old home is located in the heart of downtown Harpers Ferry and on top of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Restaurants, shops, hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail,) museums, and shops are quite literally feet away.
The front door of the house is off of the front porch at the top of the stairs (see pictures). Hang out on the front porch and enjoy the beautiful mountain views and the activity in town below you, or enter through the front door into a charming living room. Off of the living room you will find a fully-equipped eat-in kitchen with dining table for 6 plus 3 countertop stools and a half bath. Head up the stairs to the second floor where you will find 2 bright bedrooms (both with awesome views!), a full bath, and a super-cozy TV room. Exit out to the back patio from the TV room, and wander up the hill in the back yard to find an absolutely spectacular view of the Harpers Ferry Gap!
This truly is a one-of-a-kind house in an amazing location. OH...It also comes with a parking space (a HUGE bonus in Harpers Ferry!!). Please note that the parking space is located on Potomac Street, and you must climb 65 steps up to High Street where the house is located. Luggage drop-off is permitted any time except Saturday and Sunday between 11AM and 5PM. Also, please note that the stairs in this house are very steep! Please keep this in mind if you have trouble with stairs!
- "This is the 2nd time we stayed here. Great porch to enjoy your favorite beverage and watch tourists. Property was very clean and enjoyed the lovely town." - "This property is incredible. Great location right across from all the shops and restaurants. Great mix of modern amenities and old-time experience. The interior design is thoughtful and makes for a cozy stay. Jill was very helpful and communicative. The front porch is very comfortable and relaxing. If you are sensitive to noise (which we are not) there is a train line that runs within ear shot of the property. We found it charming, and our daughter loved watching the trains go by. Would definitely stay again"

- "We were really pleased. The property is as described. The included breakfast offered in a local café is really nice. Well within walking distance to the town center." - "We spent 3 nights in Harpers Ferry in the upstairs unit of this converted carriage house. It was packed with interesting tchotchkes, had a nice TV, and contained a well-supplied kitchen with breakfast groceries provided from a list sent by the owner-- not to mention a quiche, which we ended up eating for dinner. I loved waking up to sit on the back-porch glider-bench, watching the many back-yard birds. And we both loved the interesting historical town of Harpers Ferry, along with the hikes along the river and in the National Historical area. We highly recommend this place."

Great communication with the owner." - "We enjoyed the apartment at the perfect location, within walking distance of all that the historical town of Harpers Ferry has to offer. Keep in mind, its at the top of the hill, as the name states. You walk down the hill to the shoppes, eateries, and historical sites, and you must walk back up the hill at the end of the day. Its a basement appartment with small windows and lots of interior lighting. We used the electric fireplace nightly. The murphy bed in the living room was extremely comfortabble, as well as all the clean linens, blanket and quilt. The living room is large enough that it was not necessary to fold up the murphy bed during the day. There is plenty of space. Everything was clean and spotless. The hosts were helpful with information and reponsive to a random request during our stay. I wouldnt hesitate to stay at this location again."

Enjoy a memorable visit when you stay in this unique cozy home. Both rustic and refined with exposed stone walls and modern amenities.
We are located directly across from the train tracks and the Potomac River. Great for train enthusiasts and kids. Be prepared to see and hear the excitement when trains go by. Very sensitive sleepers may want to take this into consideration! The house sits on a scenic byway that has, just a short distance up the road, beautiful river views and a breathtaking top of mountain vista (Maryland Heights) if you’re a pretty serious hiker. The road trails along the river with the lesser seen opening of The Harpers Ferry train tunnel. This is also the very course John Brown traveled on his way to the armory raid. Knoxville was once a bustling town but suffered hardship when the train station moved to close by Brunswick. Some of the hardship is still evident in the area. The whole Harpers Ferry area is one of the fastest growing areas with Knoxville in particular burgeoning. The area has loads to offer with hiking, biking, tubing, rafting and kayaking or just taking a scenic walk on the tow path. There are vineyards and breweries close by and a few different venues with live music with great views of the river.
The upper level of the property features a large open concept primary bedroom with a Queen size bed ,walk in closet and access to the upper balcony. Please see pictures of layout.
A second bedroom with two twin beds and a full bathroom with tub.
The lower level has a large dining room, Den, kitchen, half bath and laundry room.
Two parking spaces are available in front of the garage and an extra spot in front of the house.
- "The house was very pretty. It was bigger then a thought the outdoor patio was very nice and we used the grill and fire pit on the back of the property it is very close to harpers ferry and the brewery. - "My husband and I stayed for two nights at this brand new home. It was so new that we were only the second clients to stay. This home exceeded expectations by a long shot. It was beautifully decorated in a very comfortable fashion. All of the furniture (couch, beds, chairs) were very comfy. I liked some of the furniture so much that I may purchase something similar for my home. My husband enjoyed the sauna very much.Ben, the owner, was very easy to communicate with and was very nice about stopping by to help this technically challenged visitor with the tv. The area has a great deal to do and some very good restaurants. Don't miss touring the Antietam Battlefield. Thanks, Ben and Kate for a very enjoyable stay!Debbie and David "

- "We just wanted to get away and do a little hiking with the kids during spring break. The location is great if your goal is to be active. It's less than a mile down to Harper's ferry. The best food we had was at the owners restaurant right across the parking lot. Yes it's small and yes it's over a bar, but we were comfortable and took advantage of the live music. If your kids will be picky about sleeping on a futon, you might want to try a different place. The master bed was quite comfortable. We were very happy with the whole experience!"

- "We had a lovely one night stay in the mountain view room. The bed was comfortable, the host was gracious, and the building was old and gorgeous." - "This property is rustic- a house built in 1820. It is simple beauty not luxury. I loved the period pieces in the room. The owner and staff are friendly, helpful and full of insight. Their Market Place is fully stocked. There are plenty of patios for enjoying privacy in the back or mountain and town views in the front. Absolutely loved my stay and was truly sad to leave."

The space
We pride ourselves on high standards and only offer to you what we ourselves would use. You can rest easy knowing that all soaps, cleaners, and laundry detergent are either organic or as natural as is possible for the product, which is good news for people with dye or perfume sensitivities, children and pets, and well, it’s just more healthy for everyone that way.
We are pet friendly and don’t charge pet fees! We provide two medium sized dog beds and bowls. Much of the yard is fenced, but not all — so we do recommend walking your pet on a leash, especially as the house is right on the road. We feed two feral cats who live near the property and you may or may not see them: the gray/white one is named Frances and his (sister?) Noir is the black one.
We are a family-run property: the house is full of custom carpentry, art, and light fixtures created by Sarah and her family. The gate and decks were also created just for the space and family members care for the grounds and maintain the house.
We provide:

Picnic table, 2 single-person hammocks, 4 metal chairs, table with checkerboard table top with game pieces and two stool chairs with lighted umbrella, metal rocking sofa for two, Breeo smokeless fire pit with grilling attachments (there is also a permanent sear plate around the edge of the fire pit to cook food), logs for sitting around the fire. Around back there is also a second fire pit.
WOODSTOVE:
We will provide wood and kindling for the woodstove when the weather turns cold. If you choose to use it, let us know and we will be in touch about how best to get the fire going if you’re not used to using one. You may cook or warm food and drinks on it, but please use the upmost caution — treat it like it’s a stove top, use fire gloves or pot holders, and only place mugs or plates on the outer sides, not directly on the solid middle surface. We use the black kettle for filling with water to keep the air from getting too dry while sitting by the fire for long periods, and sometimes we throw in some cinnamon or herbs for an aromatic experience. We don’t recommend using the black woodstove kettle for heating water for drinks.
Guest access
This is a private house on two acres, and you will have access to the entire house and grounds as only you will be staying there. Here are the owner-only spaces on the property: the sheds, the wood shed, the workshop, the downstairs closets where we store supplies, and the top shelf of the pantry where we stash some owner-only food.
Parking includes 2 uncovered spaces on a cement pad right outside the gate and then if additional vehicles need to park they can do so in the gravel next to the cement parking area.
Other things to note
We are in the country so making a call out on your cell phone requires wifi calling. 1. Get your phone on wifi, 2. Go to your phone’s settings, find Cellular, choose Wifi calling On.
Also, bugs are in the country (when it’s warm). If you keep the door open, the outside will come in. If you plan to spend time outside in the yard, in the hammocks, playing checkers on the deck, or cooking over the fire pit, just pack any spray if you need it, as if you were going to a state park for a picnic.
